The BATSUIT Thread

Since some folks are having issues with the wide mouth opening, are the last two cowls in this pic what you guys would have preferred for future upgrades? The last one is just the second with a smaller collar btw.

Original art, just edited it a bit to my liking:

This artwork just doesn't get it. The mid-cheek cowl opening from more modern comics just doesn't work. You can draw that ****, but it doesn't work on a real person in real life who has to move and talk, etc. It causes weird compression of the face and can also gape awkwardly. The actual mouth opening used on Battinson's suit is the perfect live action translation of the iconography of the comics cowl opening to live action. You can't get any closer. There is a reason why super-realistic artists like Alex Ross draw their mouth opening this way.

Also, can people please keep those bloody lens and ugly Batfleck ears away from my Batman. I like him how he is!

The cowl is really almost skull like. Especially in the shot where its drenched in red lightning.

Yeah, that skull like quality about the cowl is perfect. Really plays up that "creature of the night" vibe IMO.

Personally, the only thing I'd really want changed about this cowl is the nose. It's not bad in motion, but I think I'd probably prefer a slightly more angled, sharper nose than the flat, box-y one we're seeing here. Aside from that, I really wouldn't want them to change much of anything with this cowl.

To be fair, this is just true for the Batsuit in general for me. There's maybe one or two little quirks that I'd like to see adjusted in future designs, but overall it's pretty dang on perfect.

The nose could definitely use a sharp centre line, and could point down more in profile. I always love the beak-like look most artists draw it with.

I know that some are rubbed the wrong way with the cowl, but I love it as it is.
There's elements on it which I would have been hesitant on paper, but seeing it live, it's just perfect. The wide mouth opening works great, the skull like shape gives a creepy feels...
Overall, it gives me a classic look, a bit of a Mazuchelli's Batman feel :

But also, as a less popular reference and probably even more accurate (notice the skull), Steve Rude's Batman :

And finally, there's the whole homemade feel. That is something I always wanted and so, I immediately love it.
Oddly enough, although this mask is less refined than previous designs, I feel like Batman's face has never looked so organic and capable of nuances than here.

Everyone complained Nolan and Snyder made the mouthhole too small... and now you’re all complaining that Reeves made it too big, ugh.

This cowl is perfect. It’s half Kane, half West... with a touch of Bermejo and Sale.

Yeah, no, I love how big the mouth-hole is for this cowl. Like I said before, my only minor quibble is the blocky, flat nose. Aside from that? This is golden.

The nose is only a problem if you're looking at the cowl face front IMO, and even then it's only a minor issue. Otherwise it's pretty close to perfect IMO.

i think it looks good here.
the skull-like quality to it makes it somewhat creepy, which works.

and as antsman said, there's some bob kane, some adam west look to it too. back to batman's roots.

it's just so different from previous movie versions it takes some time to sort of adjust ur expectations.

I do think that if Reeves is intending to keep things realistic, the batsuit should get a somewhat smaller mouth opening in the next film so that it isn't too obvious Batman is Bruce Wayne.

The cowl obfuscates enough important features where you can't immediately pinpoint the man behind the mask without close inspection.

Even with Rob's perfect jawline, I doubt people would have pegged him as Batman if all we ever knew about this movie was just the trailer (sans the Bruce scenes).

Yeah to be fair I doubt anyone could tell it was Robert Pattinson without already having that knowledge

Edit: I actually think the only live action Batman we've had that was recognisable while wearing the cowl was Val Kilmer

Yeah. The cowl on Bale and Affleck screamed animalistic. The cowl on Rob is unsettling.

and i like that. we've already had animalistic, beast mode batman's.
those are cool but let's have some variety.

let's have creepy and unsettling batman.
almost like how he started out as in the comics.
a phantasm that haunts the criminals of gotham.

george clooney batman was pretty obvious it was george clooney too.

pattinson batsuit seem like it has military cargo style pants.
more practical. less form fitting.
we most likely won't get the zoom in butt shot.

i think that is ok. batman never really emphasized on the bat booty.

we already have those shots in the schumacher films.
bvs ultimate edition showed affleck's bare ass.

those are good shots of a man's ass.
but not essential to a batman movie.
