The BATSUIT Thread

I don't want it to look bulky or armored. Batman is a spectre, or a wraith of the night. To the eyes of a criminal he's supernatural. The suit, if they went in that direction should compliment that idea. And keep it black or black and grey. It looks best on film. Long ears too.

And his cape should be able to drape all around him. I miss that, and it seems like only the Burton costumes did that.

The Nolan ones (primarily the Begins suit) did it as well.

Something I’m hoping they stay completely away from is sculpted abs.
For the love of god
No ridiculous muscle suits or sculpted abs.

Agreed. They look bloody ridiculous, and serve absolutely no purpose. Also, makes Bruce Wayne seem like the vainest sonofabitch on Earth.

"I must fight crime and become a creature of the night... but only if everyone can see just how FABULOUS my six pack is!"

Still think the blue and grey looks perfectly fine - even for a noir setting. My mind won't change on that. Sorry, fam.
Really there's no right or wrong with this because it always comes down to the execution. Not just the materials and how they reflect different lights, but the design of sets, post production color correction, and the intended tone. Though I do feel blue would present more challenges.

Until then it's just personal preference. I prefer black but if they can pull off blue I wouldn't nitpick it.

We're taking an awful lot about the costume, but something that's been on my mind is that I just hope that the first time we see it, it's something dynamic.

That first pic of Bale crouched down in that pose with the cape flowing around him? Dynamic.

A black and white pic of Affleck moping in a warehouse? Not dynamic.
That was a badly composed picture. In fact pretty much all the promo picture for that suit had me thinking "Really, you went with that image? They're weren't any better angles?" Kind of reminds me of the first image for Superman Returns, that suit had a lot of problems but that first image took all the problems and made them look worst. I feel like studios across the board could do a much better job during the official photoshoots

This is pretty much what I want. Good balance of sleek and power, Great proportional figure. A perfect mix of practical looking material while still being inline with how he looks across medium. Only nitpick are the dark shoulders I feel like they would stand out like a sore thumb. And maybe segment the abs to give the actor a but more flexibility.

Overall if this was the official look, I'd be very happy.

I wouldn't mind it is it was subtle, not like BvS which I would describe as "fat abs" as in perfectly defined ab muscles over a layer of fat.

I wouldn't hedge my bets on this film looking Blade Runner-esque but we'll see

Reeves might actually consider the aesthetic of Blade Runner and make it as one of his influence, but less futuristic. Blue-grey or blue-black would mesh well in that setting.

I always found Blade Runner to have that perfect Noir look to it. Take away some of the dystopian future stuff, and you got a gorgeous Noir looking gotham. Would love if Reeves did that!

I believe nolan was partially inspired by Blade Runner for the narrows.

Personally, I'd like them to just snatch the whole aesthetics and score of Blade Runner/Blade Runner 2049 for this movie. They're neo-noir anyway. But that probably wouldn't happen :funny:
Me too. The Batman movie in my head almost always apes the Blade Runner aesthetic. :funny:

If not that, then something similar to Taxi Driver would be ideal.

It's more than likely gonna be something like Taxi Driver... which works better with black and grey

This just screams Gotham. Any combination of blue, black or grey would look fantastic in this setting.

I think with Pattinson being chosen you need to lean in to his body type in terms of what suit you pick. Yes im sure he will pack on some muscle for the role but I just don't ever see him being a big burley guy so I would avoid putting him in suits like (The Dark Knight Returns Suit or The Arkham Suit) as it probably won't look as good as something more streamlined as he has more of an athletic build than a muscular one.

Based on that my top picks for the suit would be

1. Jim Lee's Hush Suit

It may be my absolute favorite Batsuit ever so it had to make the list, not only that but the use of the dark blue colouring could make for a different aesthetic look that we've previously seen from Batman on the big screen.

2. The Batman Noel Suit

This if done by the right costume designer could give most Batman fans the best of both worlds. You could blend the real world almost ready look of the Nolan trilogy suits with the drama of the Burton suit with the cape flowing over the shoulders.

3. The New 52 Suit (Only when drawn by Greg Capullo)

Overall I think this one has the sleekest design of the three and I think its the one that Pattison's frame would best suit the most as the thinner design is more optimal for an athletic built guy than a muscular one. I know he's going to go to the gym for this role but he's just not someone I ever see being bulky.

If the original suit is too much , purple gloves and all , they could look at the classic 40s suit which could be a middle ground between the early suit and the Miller-style one we've already got with Affleck:

A take on the Capullo suit is what I'm hoping for...

God , those clasps on the Begins suit are awful . They ruin an otherwise reasonable update on the Returns suit ,which is what I think they had in mind in pre production at the time.

I understand the business logic behind abandoning big press conventions like SDCC and E3, but I will miss the spectacle of them when they eventually go. They feel like such big, seismic events.
I'm not going to miss it. It's a Comic-Con. Not a Hollywood Superhero-movie Advertisement Con.

I've been wanting this venue to go back to its roots for some time. Having it commercialized and corporately sponsored simply overshadowed the spirit of the convention. Making it something it was never meant to be.

That said, I did enjoy the initial surprise reveals early in SDCC's popularity. But it morphed into something else in the most recent decade.

I’ll never understand why people like the Bermejo suit. It looks like an outfit sponsored by the pre-Arrow CW.

To be fair, there are some good comics runs, where it is shown that Bruce's body armour is sculpted to look like muscles as another layer of his theatricality and "creature of the night" persona. The idea being that if he is not appearing to wear any armour and gets shot by criminals without any injury, it will appear supernatural and intimidating. Granted, this is just a comics explanation and is meant to justify the classic musclebound comics look.

I personally prefer a cloth suit without obvious muscle definition showing through as well. With respect to the Jim Lee and Capullo suggestions, please God no. They are both derivative of the Frank Miller short ears, musclebound DKR look. I hope Reeves stays as far away from those as possible.

I've always been fond of David Finch's Batman Incorporated suit. Some variant of that, albeit with reduced musculature, would do nicely IMO.

Great minds think alike. For reference, this was my wish list post from a few pages back in this thread:

I want something down to earth and I would love a modern re-interpretation of the classic Neal Adams design. My ideal would be something like this Finch-design with a little bit more practical belt:
