The BATSUIT Thread

There’s one Batsuit I’ve been trying to find from years ago. It was him with vampire teeth holding a huge Batarang, if I remember correctly. I liked it as a template for a cloth-based suit.

Are you thinking of the Paul Pope Batman Year 100 suit?

or this Rafael Grampá one?

Pretty sure that’s not true. Especially since black was used quite frequently back then. For hair, suits, umbrellas, shadows, etc.

I disagree. Blue has frequently been used to signify highlighted blacks, Unless you think Superman is supposed to have blue hair in these examples below.

There's more black in his hair than blue. Whereas black is used to shade his blue suit, blue is used to shade his black hair. It's a pretty clear inverse.

Batman has been depicted dozens of times as having a blue cape and cowl with black shading. Saying it was "always" meant to depict black is simply not true.

Just in clarify a possible misunderstanding. I don't believe Invader Joker meant every time you see blue in an old comic you're supposed to interpret it as black, just when it's being used as a highlight like in examples of Superman's hair I've posted above.

What are you disagreeing with? Not only is this not an opinion-based topic, but blue being used to highlight black doesn’t contradict what I said.

The blue does not look good on sculpted rubber. Hopefully West influence means a different kind of cowl. Maybe a fabric cowl

Y'know this might turn into a blue and black / white and gold dress moment but do people consider the Batman TAS costume's cowl, gloves and outside cape gloves to be blue or black? (The inside cape is obviously blue)

Personally I think everything BUT the inside cape is supposed to be black and the blue highlights are just the animators taking artistic license.

It was always meant to be black, even in the comics where it was drawn at its most blue.

Seems like WB have been testing this out. Recent Animated Batman movies. Hush and Batman vs teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They posted this awhile back.

See I've always considered the TAS suit to be black. Same rule as the comics. The blue is used for shading or defining shapes and outlines. The only time it appears blue is when he is under heavy lighting, which is just an artistic trick used to depict heavy lighting.

Inside of the cape may very well be blue, as it's pretty much all blue all of the time.

All this talk so that it ends up being all black lol. Might as well since the sources are unreliable as hell.

This is the same tired debate we've had with Spider-Man for years. The bottom line: there's a place for both to exist. They each have artistic merit, and they each can look good.

Now let's do Superman's briefs:

Nah, they're all saying the same thing. There is some truth to this. They don't all have the same source

I just think that the blue doesn't make sense for the "creature of the night" aspect of Batman.

And I get that argument that "Oh but he's never looked like a creature of the night" or whatever, but still, for obvious reasons the black puts more focus on the "dark" aspect of the character than the blue.

It can work but it needs to be compensated by something else, such as a super imposing Batman physique which is exactly what every single depiction I've seen of the blue suit that looks badass has. The Jim Lee suit, some of the statues we've shared here and some of the fanart look badass despite the blue color because the rest of his body is already doing most of the work to sell the imposing element.

No, you're wrong. The Batsuit has always been pink/red, because it said so in this one particular comic.

It's pink. I win.
I get you're being ironic but even then this is a terrible joke taking into account the fact that the point of that story (which is even reflected in that image you shared) is Batman wearing different costumes every night.

Invader, I have a suspicion that if the suit was blue and gray and Pattinson had a lithe physique, you'd still be on board. Call it a hunch.

Just keep an open mind, my guy.
