The BATSUIT Thread

I've always been partial to the long ears purely because in silhouette like shots they look badass, although if you're putting you're "realistic" glasses on, they'd be completely impractical within the context of the character.

As long as the execution is good, I'm fine with whatever length. Most of the live action Batmen have had longer ears. We only got the short ears with Affleck and West, and Affleck wasn't even in a solo Batman. Everything else has been long to medium.

So I'm confused by some of you complaining about how we don't have enough longer ears, when the vast majority of the Batmen have had them in live action. But again, whatever, I just want a good suit. I'm starting to get a little worried about the rumors. :hehe:

There's a really nasty joke I could say about the ear size.

But I will restrain myself.

And neither does a cape that can get caught on things, weigh him down, be used by opponents to grab him, or get in the way of fighting. We are talking about a comic book superhero, of whose existence not much stands up to close scrutiny.

However, the character's visual iconography is important and an iconic part of pop culture. If Batman's appearance is meant to strike fear into criminals as has always been a key part of the character's mythology, a distinctive silhouette and exaggerated appearance help with that in the dark. Dinky ears on a boring "realistic" suit just scream a man in a costume...
Bingo

Is it time for the sculpted rubber with eyeholes cowl to go?
If we get white lenses and a way for Pattinson to make expressions and scowl naturally himself... I’d be up for that.

The sculpted eyebrows on a rubber cowl was always a compromise to try and create the silhouette, mood, and intimidating look of the comics on a real life actor. And you want the mask to look solid enough to not look weak and soft as a disguise.

Deadpool showed some ways to do eyes and expressions in a full face mask. I wouldn’t mind seeing something more refined and “scary-looking” for Pattinson’s Batman to let him actually emote while wearing the mask.

This please! Technology has evolved past 1989 and it's time. I'd love to see a prosthetic cowl like fear toxin Batman from Begins

His jawline is insane. I bet will look awesome in the actual mask.

I wonder who Reeves tapped to design the suit this time around. Ironhead will likely handle production duties.

Glyn Dillion and David Crossman

Thanks, Goliath. I see that BoF and IMDB were the first sites to run with this, so it isn't actually official. That said, Jett is occasionally reliable and IMDB tends to be good with movie credits, if nothing else. I'm having a look at their respective repertoires and seeing a lot of Star Wars experience thus far. Interesting.

Glynn Dillon has also responded directly with people on twitter asking about the batsuit. So although not officially announced I think they're the ones on board.

Glyn Dillon modified last month his Twitter bio explicitly saying he's been designing the suit. The Jacqueline Durran thing also came first from IMDB. Dave Crossman always works alongside Glyn Dillon, they're a duo.

IMDB is extremely reliable when it comes to crew members on the technical side of things and smaller cast members.

The thing is whatever the size of the ears, i am hoping that Reeves and Pattinson will give Batman more of a creature of the night effect . ( Burton, Keaton, and their team with the restrictions of the suit are the people who achieved the most the effect, imo ) and you?

It would be kinda hard to do that if Batman looks he should be leading a SWAT platoon

A guy who has a flexible stealth suit, who can jump, run easily ( like on the rooftops ) and who can blend into the shadows can achieve that effect imo

To be more precise, if there is a misunderstanding, i didnt mean that people would buy, that he is a demonic super powered guy, (even more, with the time passing) but a mysterious (and scary) force of the night.

And it will be even harder if he looks like a guy in tights or spandex. Worse yet, it becomes harder to take the film seriously if it's trying to tell a grittier story if the suit doesn't look like it could take a beating.

Yup, this is the key. It's far more about overall presentation and theatricality. Certain elements of the Batsuit play into that, primarily the Cape and Cowl (what silhouette is given, how well the cape hides away the more human qualities of Batman's form), but it's also in how the scenes are presented cinematically from the director and their crew.
