When the bat-suit is armored, it makes little sense to wear home made leather cowl with it.

My personal theory is that it's to do with the two main aspects of the batsuit; practicality and fear factor. The armor is for Bruce's own protection. The cape and cowl is to make him appear as, as I've said before, a creature of the night. If Bruce spends a lot of his time in the batsuit with the cape draped over, with the armor not clearly visible, it'd make the most sense.

None of live action suits had a cowl that looked like it can take a straight shot. In case of Affleck it just magically happens.

Depends. We don't know what's underneath that leather.

And as others have said, the bodysuit is his armour, the cape and cowl represent his beastly and theatrical nature.

It's a great mix and the best of both worlds, safety and theatricality.

And it's also nice that they got creative with the look instead of making something boring and bland.

That's why they are filmmakers and we are forum know-it-alls.

Well, they hid the ears, so it invites creativity.

That mouth opening is so wide and extends right to where Pattinson's ears are, you can even see his hair at the corner.

Yeah, it also makes it look more personal.

But I'm loving the aesthetic. Especially the chest area (hard to judge the mask without the ears). Sick combination of glossy and matte materials. Not overdesigned with details and patterns. Perfect.

I kinda hope not, having ears that are too small is pretty hard to do and uh...that'd be way too small. My idea would be the manip I posted some pages ago, with the TAS ears

I’m personally hoping they don’t go with Adam West ears... after sleeping on it I think I like the suit overall. The chest piece really reminds me of the Telltale Batsuit

also how the bat symbol is kind of embedded in the suit and isn’t a raised piece above the bodysuit.

as far as colors go, I’m expecting something similar as well. The bodysuit may be a charcoal gray but definitely not as gray as Batfleck’s BvS suit and the symbol will be black. I really hope they are filming something outside so we can see what the ears and legs look like!

yeah the wide mouth opening doesn’t really bother me, Pattinson has the jawline for it so you may as well use it. They really need to trim up his sideburns though having them stick out makes the mask looks like it doesn’t fit! I’m sure they will in the movie.

We'd only really be able to guestimate with recent pics of Pattinson out of the suit. We'll know for definite when we get a more recently taken closeup of the suit, which we likely won't get for too long.

May as well go for it I suppose. It would definitely fit in with the more detectivey angle they’re going for.

For my own curiosity, I've made a couple crude edits of a tighter jaw guard and thicker neck;

I'm slowly coming around to it as a whole. Still not a fan of the cowl or collar, but I can dig the overall vibe and Pattinson looks downright scary. Not supernatural, creature-of-the-night scary, but psychotic, slasher movie scary. I had a feeling we were getting something weird...

Also, the gun-emblem theory is reaching. They clearly are detachable batarangs or maybe even blades.

What's really throwing the design off for me is the excessive amount of padding on the brow, along with it's smoothness and roundness around the eyes. I've always preferred a more angular, feral appearance to the cowl in live action given its immobility.

I just can't stand the Keaton approach to the cowl. It was understandable in 1989 when rubber moulding of that sort was still relatively new, but it's mind boggling that anyone in 2020 would think a mask that sticks out that far looks good. I can definitely understand the CW/cosplay comments.

In truth it reminds of Daredevil's costume from the season 1 finale. It's 90% there, but that final 10% just about ruins it and it's all in the mask, which is the most important element of any costume. I can only hope this is still a work in progress, it'll be fixed in reshoots/post or that it'll look a lot better in motion & better lighting in the final film.

Honestly, I thought the Daredevil cowl would make a good reference point for a Batman cowl. So this all worked out for me.
