The BATSUIT Thread

Also, to me, it's extremely obvious it's a gun.
Maybe it also works as a batarang now that he cut it in half, but c'mon...

Obviously there are design differences since all guns are different, but it seems pretty clear to me that all the pieces are there.
Perhaps it'd be easier if we could find the exact model of the gun... anyone know a good gun nuts website that can help? :o
Those lines don't connect the images well at all. There's nothing clear about it being a gun. The design resembles a few different tools, a gun is one of them, but that's about it.

The power of the internet is strong

I haven’t seen any confirmation that it’s the gun that killed his parents. But if you went on twitter, it’s pretty much fact at this point.

It spread like wildfire

I saw a photoshop of the cowl that gives it an angry expression, and brings the sides of it forward and it looks so much better.

Small detail but the materials of his chest piece aren't rubber or metal like most other armored batsuits, but covered in a thin layer of fabric. You can kind make out the threads and texture in this shot at 100%.

After a few days of looking at it, the nose/forehead don’t sit right with me. Batman’s brow should always be furrowed, to give him a serious/menacing look. It’s too expressionless at this point
Exactly! I think this is my biggest problem with it as well. I mean I’m not a fan of the suit as a whole from what I’ve seen but I DETEST the cowl and collar. More so the cowl.. aside from the gaping mouth and looking cheap and stitched (ala Gotham by gaslight) it also looks too weak and he looks rather timid and fearful instead invoking fear in others with a stern expression. Also the forehead gives me a vibe of those cheap hard shelled Batman face masks they sell at like Walmart or Target.. hopefully they correct this cowl at some point.

This chest piece looks awesome, btw. Armored but at the same time you could tell that Batman's movements will not be compromised.

Just because You don't like it doesn't mean it needs to be "corrected" the cowl and Cape looks great imo so either get over it or get used to it because its really no point in hoping it'll be changed

The past cowls were all one-piece sculpts that comprised of the head, the jawline, and the neck. Because all of these components are sculpted into one overall piece, it creates static movement shared between all of them. Which is why we had the infamous "bat-turn." The head and jawline could not move independently from the neck, because they were sculpted with the neck.

The only way to really compensate for this was to 1) separate the head/jawline from the neck (ala TDK), or 2) create a giant neck with a vacuum of space inside (ala BvS). So you either got a helmet or a giant cowl.

Additionally, sculpting a jawline into the cowl and covering part of the actor's lower face creates that sort of "smushed" look, where the actor's face is visibly compressed inside the cowl. This was most noticeable in BB when Bale was at his heaviest, and in JL when Affleck had put on some weight for reshoots. And again, because the cowl is a sculpted one piece that forces a forward-facing direction, you can visibly see the actor struggle to turn his head in the cowl. Their face literally pushes against the edge of the cowl, because they're fighting the natural direction of the cowl. It creates creases and wrinkles in their face. You can see that even the simple act of turning the head isn't a natural one, which sometimes makes for awkward moments. I think Bale in particular suffered from this a lot.

And lastly, covering the nostrils with the cowl inhibits the actor's ability to breathe through their nose, and basically forces mouth-breathing (looking at you, Bale). Not particularly great when the actor's in a physical intensive scene and has to speak while simultaneously gasping for air.

This new cowl looks to solve a few problems:

1. The head is able to move independently from the neck while maintaining a more form-fitting aesthetic.
2. Pattinson's jawline is free from restriction, allowing for full natural expression and freedom of movement.
3. Pattinson is free to breathe through his nose.

I wonder how easy it is for Pattinson to put it on and to take it off.
The shoulder joints and the fact that they went out of their way to make the cowl leather makes me think his comfort and mobility were a top priority for the designers.

Oh are those my only options? Yeesh.. well thanks for informing me.. although (and I’m just spit balling here) aren’t your two options for me, the same thing (ergo) a pointless ultimatum? ;) However, no I don’t think I will get over it, I’m still not over how much I hated the JL cowl from 2017, can’t help what I like and don’t like and this I truly do not like. I hate the armored look too but that I can work with.. for that matter, kinda baffles me that they went with the armored look and yet didn’t complete the ensemble, cowl wise.

Fabric texture also helps to differentiate it from Arkham Knight robotic gear and Iron Man.
