The BATSUIT Thread

It's been obvious for those who've gone through all their comments over the years that they're not avid fans and readers as we are.

Most of their knowledge is clearly colored solely by singular iterations like the tv show and live-action films.

Even if comics were consumed, depending on what they've read it wouldn't necessarily be obvious how different certain iterations are.

DeVito's Penguin is highly unique, but to an uninitiated reader going through TLH for the first time, Sale's monstrous rendition would probably lead them to believe it's the same take.

We shouldn't expect people who didn't really grow up into fandom to suddenly jump head first and stay in it. To be really ingrained into the culture and the lore, it takes significant amount of personal time. That would take a dramatic shift in lifestyle.
Sure but this isn’t my brother not reading comics. These guys are making Batman movies. And they’re getting paid to do that. Watch a few animated episodes, read a few more comics. Hell, google search these characters if you want to save time. It doesn’t take up much time. They’re getting paid to create a Batman universe, and it could have helped their story if they knew more.

Not only did Nolan say that about Penguin “it would be tricky”...but his brother even lumped Penguin with Clayface. It’s as if they’re thinking of Devito’s freak version. Even Margot Robbie and the cast of BoP did a fun interview and they were asked about Penguin and she said something about Penguin in the sewers.

It’s time Reeves/Farrell show the non comic readers who Penguin really is. Margot reads the comics and so does Jonathan Nolan, which is why their idea of Cobblepot baffles me.
First of all can you point me to where he said this exactly?

If he meant it could be tricky, he’s probably relating his entire knowledge to the character from Batman Returns. Which was an extreme aberration of what the character actually is in his history. A truly oddball Burton / Waters decision.

To be fair, a lot of the rogues gallery would be tricky in Nolan’s vision. That’s obvious to anybody who’s read all the seminal works overtime.

You don’t need to be a monthly reader of comics to understand the lineage of most of these characters. :funny:

That would be oddly egotistical or snobby elitist as a supposed fan, as if they’re on some higher level of understanding of all of this. Which is utter nonsense.

They’re usually in their classic form in various important works or graphic novels of the mythology.

I'm of the position that ideally consuming as much as they can of the entire history, but I don't think it's something that is anywhere near required to make a successful adaptation.

May sound like heresy, but if a completely noobie devotes just a week of "deep diving" into the lore, you're going to get all the essentials you need to work off of. And even that is stretching it (probably could do it in a weekend).

B89 was a monumental achievement for the genre, and Burton has been open about not reading the books at all. Same for Joaquin.

I’ll find them when i have time but those quotes shouldn’t be hard to find. Let’s not forget that Chris didn’t think Catwoman would work either and his brother had to convince him. He also thought the batmobile would be too much at first.

Yes we don’t know what Chris’s perspective was on these characters before trying to make them fit, Jonah took his brothers vision and meshed it with the essence of the character from the mythology.

He didn’t say the Batmobile was too much. That was legit the first thing he anticipated and designed in his garage. :funny:

He was hesitant for the batwing. And briefly toyed with the idea of Batman’s costume in TDK not having a permanent cape but retractable glider wings from the backpack we see in Hong Kong.

Here's the suit reveal brighten up in gif form.

im loving it more and more

The batmobile was suggested to him by a producer who felt like it wouldn’t be Batman without it. Chris wasn’t going to do it at all until he thought about it and found a way to make it realistic for their world. Then he started designing it. There’s a reason why it’s called the tumbler and Selina is never called Catwoman.

I dont know about anybody else, but I dont have a massive urge to see Batman mix it up with other heroes. That was always fun in the comics and in TAS and such, but Im happy this trilogy is gonna focus on batman and his world, similar to TDK trilogy. This is, after all, meant to be about THE batman.
Agreed. I don't want any other superheroes to appear, including the bat family

Great find! And they should really watch the costumes! Even though a part of me want to see Catwoman outfit lol:gngl::hehe:

I saw that set pic getting passed around on IG this morning. Pretty crazy that a film of this hype level was so lax about security. Maybe someone snuck on set?

This usually means the image was taken and shared illegally, and posts like these are best deleted ASAP.

Unless the cemetery was closed when these pictures were taken, in which case the photographer was trespassing.

There is literally no reason to assume that.
