The BATSUIT Thread

And I don't know. Maybe I've gotten older and I've eased up on things that I used to draw hard lines on. If I had seen this suit back in 2007, maybe I would have thrown a fit and nitpicked it to death. Now? If it's what Reeves wants for what he's trying to do with this movie, I'm game. It's different, it's not what I personally wanted, but as its own unique interpretation it works for me.

People on here know I was a big advocate for a streamlined, fabric batsuit with a blue and grey color scheme and the oval. I still lost my **** when Reeves dropped this thing. I'm just not getting too married to my own ideas anymore.

To me the suit looks like a dark grey. Some people are saying it’s all black but I see that the armor and pants are dark grey. What do you guys think?

This

I had something very different in mind for the suit but that doesn’t stop me from being completely in love with what we got.
I’m not looking for the definitive Batman movie here. I’m just looking for a Batman movie that I enjoy watching. :funny:

Honestly, if it is black and grey, the grey is so dark that it's basically negligible.

At a quick glance, it does come across as all black.

It’s gray. There’s literally a black stripe on the pants that makes it quite obvious that the suit is gray.

It is odd to me though why an official photo of the costume wasn't released prior to these set images coming out. They did exactly that with Catwoman in TDKR the day before they were due to film on location to devalue any images taken by the public.

Honestly most of this is the Mortal suit come to life. The dark lenses will likely take inspiration from the electrochemical lens tech that was to be shown in Mortal where they switch from dark to clear lenses.

I have very mixed to negative feelings overall just based on these pics. It just looks too bulky, trying to be so uber grounded real and just looks kind of naff. If this was a McG directed Batman movie then I would just say piss off and set the whole costume on fire. However with Reeves being on this trilogy I suspect it will be lensed and shot to make it look great and perhaps this is just part of several suits through the movies.

I will be making light fun of this costume but am really looking forward to what Reeves does with this.

I get what they’re going for here but I’m not sure that I like it. I know that there’s always this desire to be “realistic” with Batman, but at the end of the day, Batman isn’t anymore realistic than super-powered heroes because a guy going out every night, violently fighting criminals would probably be paralyzed within a year or two. So they could make a more streamlined, comic booky costume if they wanted to. That’s fine that they didn’t want to go in that direction but just from what I see here, it looks like they’re trying to do what Nolan did, but not as good. I know people had issues with those suits but they’re looking pretty damned good to me right now.

I used that same stripe and the black straps on his legs to show my brother that the suit is gray. Maybe on screen the gray will be more noticeable. One of my “must haves” for the suit in this movie was the body had to be gray. The suit has to be black and gray or blue and gray.

I completely agree. This makes TDK suit look like a masterpiece in comparison and I was not a fan. Hell, I legitimately prefer the Gotham suit, lol. I cannot imagine this is going to be all we get... sigh.

What? Is it written wrong?

Edit: I've edit it. No need to be a correction nazi. :o

Lol i wasn't even highlighting the typo. I just thought your take being the "definite" take was funny. I like the samurai/utilitarian look though. The bulbous cowl is the only off putting part for me.

Yeah now that you have pointed this out , I think it's really close to JLM Batsuit. (there were a few variations of it) But, the Collar, the shoulder pads, the pointed ears, the metallic armor are all there.

This is definitely a suit deliberately designed to be grotesque, to not flow together, to deliberately look more like disparate and separate components almost literally strapped together as armor, with total function over form as a design philosophy save for the mask and the symbol.

They didn’t want this thing to work together the way a usual costume design would.

That’s the biggest design break from Nolan; all the Nolan costumes, for heroes and villains, were meant to work together and maintain some degree of grace in the aesthetic. They definitely don’t want that at all.

It’s a bit like they wanted the entire suit to mimic the design of the belt; seemingly uneven and ugly, but all seeming to have some purpose.

I don’t mind it... but I fully expect the film to show this thing getting beat to hell and messed up quite a bit.

Assuming this is the shape of what the finished cowl will look like, I think it's by far my least favorite aspect of the suit. The ears look fragile, like I could snap them off with my hand. Way too pointy and thin.

I get some people like the practicality behind the costume, but when it comes to movies, I'm fine with trading realism for a costume that simply looks good on screen.

I overall love it but am hoping he upgrades to another suit at the end of the film for the final showdown or very early on in the sequel if there is one

The Nolan suits were $300,000 prototypes that Bruce Wayne took from the applied sciences division of a multi-billion dollar company.

This suit literally looks like Bruce Wayne walked into an army surplus store with a budget. Certainly makes tracing Batman back to him a bit more difficult. This suit does not look like a man put hundreds of thousands of dollars into it.

I like it, but I can see why some people would be turned off by it.
It kind of confirms my suspicions that being an early suit, it's kind of going for the Batman Begins style: Not streamlined, but more "thrown together." This isn't the result of Bruce and Lucius Fox sitting in the R&D department of Wayne Enterprises making a suit, this is early Bruce throwing together whatever works. "Ok, we'll take this tactical armor, add some gauntlets...Alfred, can you sew a collar on this ballistic fabric so I can use it as a cape and have some protection for my neck? And how is that mask I asked you to sew coming along?"
The darts(?) on the gauntlets.... I wonder if they'll always be there... It looks like they're filming a chase scene, maybe he grabs them for this occasion? Like he shoots them into the bad guy's tires?

Where's the dislike button?

But do you guys really think Reeves is trying to "out Nolan Nolan"? I really don't see Reeves trying to just redo what was done because there's realism here.

Not "definite". As in my word is ghospel or anything.
I just don't have a doubt myself of it looking bad. For me the whole look is subpar.

For the people that don’t like the first look of the suit, are y’all done with the movie or you all still going to give it a chance? Official still, trailers etc.

I sure as hell hope that's just the stunt suit, because he kinda looks like one of the fake Batman's from TDK, lol.

Someone for the love of all that is good, could do a "they are literally the same picture" meme?

I don't have a pc!
