The BATSUIT Thread

A good handful of these aren’t so much on WB as they are on fandom for being utterly insufferable in every way. That first BB pic? Great. Shazam? Admittedly should’ve had an official release rather than set pics, but the suit still looked great and the fans still whined.

Agreed. I had no issues with any of those except with this one from The Batman. I even liked the Superman Returns reveal. What I did notice is that in most cases, they had much better pictures on hand and usually from the same photoshoots but revealed them only later.

When looking at WB's track record, they really have a terrible history when it comes to the first official shots of costumes.

-Batman Begins was dark and in a crouching position that made him "teh puffy" as they used to say.

-Superman Returns had an unflattering pose, setting and lighting.

-TDK one gets a pass as it was actually pretty badass with him standing on top of a police car. In fact that actually made it look better if anything.

-Man of Steel had him crouched in front of a safe like door. This got people debating endlessly on wether the dark area was hiding trunks or not.

-BvS had the "sad Batman" meme because of the posture and it was monochrome which had people debating the suit colour for the longest time.

-Shazam was through set photos where people were complaining about something...can't recall what.

-The Batman, well you know this one.
Some of their reveal photos across film and television have been so bad that the set photos actually ended up being damage control, I'll always be baffled by the reveal pic for Hoechlin's Superman.

I personally had no problems with any of them.

Including this one. The screen testees, was awesome. And it’s when the suit so far has looked it’s dramatic best.

The only problem is with the set leaks. And at that point you might as well circumvent it and release a full picture.

I also didn’t think the complaint about Christian Bale Begins suit pic looking puffy was legitimate either.

The Man of Steel one was awesome as well, and thankfully he didn’t have the stupid diapers.

It wouldn’t have been my choice for fresh release picture, but I’m not in charge.

With that said your dad right about the first official image of TDK suit being the absolute most bad ass.

Standing on top of a guy from police cop car, the pose, the stance. That first 89 reveal in front of the Bat mobile with Keaton swagger lean is pretty sick too.

I didn’t mind the Ben Affleck reveal, but the meme it created was cringe worthy as a super fan and being my favorite character. Much like the whole Martha thing.

100% agreed.

I just personally would’ve released a full body shot a week after the tease Matt Reeves gave us ...

To circumvent the absolutely terrible goofy looking stunt shoot candid shots from set spies

Honestly I think the set photos for this have been pretty great for what they are. The suit may not be exactly what I was personally wanting (if it weren't for the collar and bulky armor plates on the chest and shoulders it'd be pretty darn close though) but it's grown on me.

My level of respect of WB and Matt Reeves will increase a lot if the first full pic of Pattinson in the batsuit (in color) is a picture of Batman in the graveyard like this:

But with the batmobile somewhere on shot.
These set leaks are so bad I'd say the ideal would be to make that first pic as badass, iconic and epic as they can possibly be, that way people can forget about the stunt guy looking weird or falling on his ass or whatever.

GOAT ISH right there ... esp TDK one.

Wish had a still of Pattinson to go with.

Is it weird I came in my pants seeing that second picture again. Bale looked like such a bad ass.

What's odd about this Bat-suit is that his body is protected by armor but legs aren't.

I don't know enough about motorcycles to know about what models they are or how they have been modified. What little I know I learned from my Dad when I was a kid and he mostly rode Harleys. If I had to guess, the Batcycle looks like a modified BMW police or military model. If so, it is a great choice for Batman.

Good call, Detective. I checked with my brother-in-law, who knows a great deal about cars, bikes, et al., and his response more or less gels with yours. "It appears to be clever custom BMW given the boxer twin, where the cylinder head and exhaust pipe poke out the sides. It could be derived from a Russian URAL, but those are are crappy copies of the WWII variety, which would be ridiculous.) With this one, I think they took a BMW RNineT and fabbed two extra cylinders on each side to really make it unique."

In a follow-up email, he added, "The police BMW has more electronic ‘doodads’ but same engine: R1200RTP. The RNineT makes sense as it’s easier just to add rather than take away. I need to see that rear swing arm though. BMW has a direct drive (no chain or belt) and it’s single sided. That would seal the deal."

Maybe Pattinson's suit has more armor on the legs.

I expect there will not be any additional armour on the legs of the hero suit. If you look at the body armour actual combat troops wear, the armour is principally located on the torso and head to protect these vital areas. The rest is unarmoured to prevent from weighing them down and to allow maximum mobility. This suit seems to follow the exact same logic, except with additional armour on the arms and wrists since Batman is principally a hand-to-hand combatant and needs extra protection there to maximize his ability to block strikes with bladed and blunt weapons. HIs heavy leather boots provide sufficient lower body protection.

Yeah, the pants look extremely detailed and they blend well with the rest of the suit, I'd imagine that's what Pattinson wears as well but you never know.

Am I the only one who prefers something like Jensen's homemade cowl over Robert's?

Not to sound like a total *******, but something about that thing looks like shiiiiitttt... I'm not saying I could do any better, but the angles on that thing are just...off... It looks like it would actually obscure some of his vision, and the jaw strap seems overly large for his face.

Agreed it’s disgusting. I’m glad it was posted, it makes the Battinson cowl slightly less vomit inducing in comparison.

It's not actually vomit inducing compared or not though. Don't exaragte to such extremes

Cloth armor is also a lot more protective than people tend to give it credit for, considering what the higher end cloth armors are capable of it should protect him from knives pretty well and in some cases even gunfire. Given the rest of the suit it does kind of surprise me this doesn't have kneepads though.

As far as the suit we're getting, I'm sure I'm not adding anything new to the discussion, but it's definitely not what I was expecting, regardless of how I feel about it personally. The consensus kept going back and forth about how early in his career this was, so I wasn't sure whether to expect some "proto" suit or something more put together. Well... it's ABSOLUTELY more piece made than I was expecting. I didn't think it was going to be super finished, but I didn't expect the "Home Depot special" we got. However, the older I've gotten, the less invested I've become in aesthetics than I am with what actually winds up on film. Am I still excited about the supposed "noir" approach they are taking? Yes. Am I still excited about the world's greatest detective plans they keep mentioning? Absolutely. Can I tell that's supposed to be Batman? Well...it's got the ears...there is some form of a Batsymbol...there is clearly a cape, so yeah...it's obviously Batman. The rumors of picking and choosing from different Batsuits hit the nail on the head though. I'm one of the people that LOVES the whole "pseudorealism" approach that Nolan took, but I know alot of people wanted pure comic book. It looks like they went even MORE grounded and realistic. Idk...time will tell...

And the folks complaining about all the bagginess, I'm sure this has been stated a million times, but this IS a stunt suit. We NEED an actual Pattinson shot before we can tell what's what. The two things I really don't get though are, for one, the gauntlets. Wtf is up with all the "darts" on top, and am I just seeing things, or are the fins on the guantlets nothing more than the straps holding the guantlets on left at different lengths giving the "illusion" it has fins? Second, what is gonna come out of the eye situation? Are they doing something in post, or are those things just over the eyes right now for protection driving the motorcycle.

The arrow gauntlets are starting to grow on me. It really goes for a hardcore no nonsense approach where he prioritizes function over style or theatricality. I hope he brutally shoots criminals in the shoulder or legs to incapacitate them. I really want this Batman to really be at the limit of whats acceptable
