The BATSUIT Thread

The scene that cements this as the best batsuit is incredibly simple.
In one of the first fights at the Iceberg Lounge, there is a medium shot of Batman jumping over a rail that's above his waist, only to land below and keep fighting, in the same take. I simply can't imagine any other batsuit accomplishing a scene like this and keeping it as fluid.

I don't see why that Dark Knight/Rises suit couldn't have done this same scene. That suit was very nimble.

Even Affleck's was quite fluid.

Pattinson has a good, functional suit but I don't think it's fair to act like it's the first functional one ever.

About the wingsuit...

I don't know if it was intentional but I got the impression that that was the first time Bruce had ever used it in the field. Hence why he hesitated before jumping off the building (which I thought was a nice touch) and then almost immediately wiped out. I imagine it almost as an experiment that wasn't totally successful, and that he will refine the tech going forward. I'd really like to see it evolve into the iconic bat-wing shape in subsequent films.

I need to see the film again, but I don’t even understand where the wing suit came from.

Saying the cape serves no practical purpose is not only wrong, because it turns into the wingsuit, but it's like saying the bat ears serve no purpose. It's to help create a persona! It's so you can't make out a human shape in the darkness! How can people in a batman focused forum say such things?

The thing with this suit is that every part of it has a utility beyond just looking cool. That's what I love about it; everything has a purpose and function, as though the whole thing were an extension of the utility belt. So it's not an invalid question to ask what function the ears serve or the cape or the side-holster. But I also don't need to be explicitly told all of that in the film. I can infer that it does have some purpose even if the movie doesn't tell me exactly what it is.

People are used to the cape being the way Batman glides, because that’s they way it is in the comics and previous movie versions. The wingsuit felt a bit jarring, and redundant. Looked a bit crap too.

I never remember Batman gliding with his cape until the Nolan trilogy and the Batman Arkham games. Don’t recall comics but maybe I’m wrong. I always remember Batman just using his grapple for everything and getting around the city.

Guess you haven't read Year One or looked at the early Detective Comics stories, Batman hasn't always flown with his cape.

Never suggested he has, but that is the commonly accepted main use of the cape across Batman’s modern history. Given that the wingsuit didn’t really work (both in film and out) I would have preferred Reeves kept that element more simple and straightforward. Hopefully we’ll get a better gliding Batman in film 2.

In the comics, the universal visual is Batman in the air, using the cape to either glide, arrest free fall, or use as a distraction. Nolan did a fabulous job of grounding that iconic visual in some kind of reality.

Capes (or really, it’s a cloak) are for warmth and protection from weather. That’s why they exist. Obviously Batman has a cape to look cool but if there has to be a function, then the one they were invented for thousands of years ago would probably do fine.

I approved of the wing suit for its real world practicality. It’s a welcomed take to Batman’s gliding ability. That being said, Nolan spoiled me. Having the cape spread out into bat wings just adds more of iconography to the character.

As for the rest of the suit I’ve always thought it was perfect. My checkboxes have always been: “Can he move? Can it protect him? Does he look like Batman?” This suit delivers on all fronts. I hope they focus on more gadgets and vehicles rather than suit upgrades for the sake of aesthetics. Of course that’s my humble opinion.

I liked the wing suit and I also got the impression it was his first and maybe last time judging how he wiped out. We could see him try gliding with the cape in the future

Truly don't know why so many are hung up on the wing suit. It's not like him using his cape to glide is an integral part of the character or mythos. Most of the time he's not gliding but grappling rooftop to rooftop which he does way more in this.

Perhaps I lack the creative foresight but I can’t see them deviating too much from the aesthetic they’ve established here. It’s already confirmed the the suit is made of bleeding edge armor so as of right now this is the best suit that Bruce’s money can buy. I know people are itching for upgrades so it can align with a more comic accurate appearance but this isn’t exactly a rinky-dink costume. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I thought the suit (and his tech in general) played a really good balance of realism and cutting edge science, with a little bit of embellishment thrown in.

Given that he hasn’t been doing this forever and he doesn’t have an entire Wayne Enterprise business unit developing tech for him things like the wing suit make sense to me. I’m sure his tech will get refined as we go in, it’s happened in almost every iteration of the character.
