The BATSUIT Thread

The wing suit was cute btw. Made him look more like a flying squirrel lol.

People need to understand that the 'white eyes' Batman only works in comics and animation because they can animate and move his eyes for expression a la how Spider-Man's MCU mask works.

Batman in live action cannot have a cowl like Spider-Man's animatronic mask. Batman's mask is always too armored for that and it just wouldn't work because his cowl forms to his face, unlike Spider-Man's.

Nolan's white-eyes in The Dark Knight were a smart integration of it and it had a purpose. I think something like this could work but only as another tool Batman uses at times.

Lenses wouldn't work all the time due to the need for emoting, but he's had retractable night vision lenses, etc in the comics for years. The white eyes/lenses have had a functional purpose since about the mid 90's. Nolan basically took Akiva Goldsman's BATMAN FOREVER ideas and added a role for Fox into it.

honestly I’m a super pro-lenses guy, but I felt this film handled it to my satisfaction. Any of the functional reasons he’d need more than what we’ve seen (ie. ballistic eye protection) are moot since a couple bulletproof panels make him invulnerable to shotgun blasts and machine gun fire (which I’m fine with, it’s just the internal logic of the film). I’ve never thought the lenses are necessary unless there’s a real good reason for them, and there isn’t a solid functional purpose.

I think now this is my second favorite Batsuit, replacing TDK one (Batfleck still my #1). Make the chest symbol simpler, gray of the bodysuit brighter to contrast with the cape, and it's ready to be number one.

This really is the TDK suit, conceptually. But way better executed. I was convinced as I made a 30 minute side by side hot toys comparison between the two. The Affleck suit is still the most comic accurate, badass and intimidating suit tho.

Am I seriously the only one here who was totally into the wingsuit?

Not bad at all, but could be more used. Or the scene could be longer.

Nope, loved it. Thought it was completely rad although I do wish

the cape had a lot more utility beyond it

I thought it looked fairly silly. He looked like a adult baby. One of the few parts of the movie I disliked.

I don't think the wing suit is meant to look cool at all. To my mind it's obviously not just a misfire in terms of practicality, but also a stylistic failure whose awkward look is meant to further represent how this Batman is still early in his career and that he hasn't totally figured out what he's doing just yet.

People saying they think it looks cool are missing the point tbh. It's not meant to be defended or propped up by people who are insecure about how dumb it looks. It's totally designed for the viewer to look at it and say: wow that was a huge misfire, let's hope he figures things out better for next time.

wingsuit was cool as hell. It was also nice when he hesitated before jumping off. It added to his vulnerability which is prevalent in the movie.

i loved that little moment there.
made batman even more human here.
still a badass, but after all he's just a human under that suit.

I didn't care for the wing suit, but it served its purpose. It was a trump card, ace up his sleeve device to make a quick escape from a dangerous vantage point.

That said, why does he even wear the cape at this point? It was almost vestigial in this film.

It's theatrical which fits his entire idea, plus the wing-suit comes from the cape, so for one he'd have to have the other.

Adding onto WatchProtect's point it also looked like it might have helped to break Batman's fall
onto the rafters in the finale.
ala Arkham when you fall from a massive height and don't glide down

nitpicks and strange observations are hitting an all-time high i see. lord have mercy. But that only means movie is that good.

There’s issues I have with the first iteration of the Reeve’s batsuit. The functionality of the cape, is not one of them. I liked the different element of him using a gliding mechanic vs the Nolan cape gliding ability (this isn’t peak Batman anyways. It’s early days/year two.)

I always thought his suit had a flight suit look to it, due to the straps and design on the sides so it fit for me.

I hate the idea of removing the cape. That’s a must have element to Batman. Like the ears on the mask.

He has a cape because he is trying to evoke a giant bat. Same reason for the ears. Not everything has to have a practical function.

Cape functionality is a moot argument imo. Might as well argue the ears too. It’s just part of the iconography. I just wish it had scallops.

The scallops are maybe not there, but the way the cape lays... we still get that vibe when he's walking/standing.

I want... no... NEED scallops on the next cape.

Also, this could be my brain lying to me, but I swear that he whipped out a cape stun move (Arkham games style) when he was surrounded by the police in the precinct.
