Guardians of the Galaxy The Benicio Del Toro Thread - Who Is He Playing?

I gotta say, after seeing the Collector in action my enthusiasm for this movie has gone way down. I was hoping for a far better portrayal than it appears we will be getting.

What were you expecting?

I think he looks badass. :o

Don't know. Admittedly I've never been a big fan of the character, but I certainly wasn't expecting that...

His appearance isn't bad. It's the mannerisms, specifically the bow. And the "derpy" looking assistant certainly doesn't help matters.

I'm loving Del Toro's Jim Jarmusch hair.

i kinda like the quirkiness of what we saw, not everything needs to be regal, hence the contrast and the mocking tone

Meh, the whole idea of The Collector seemed a bit naff to me, but seeing Del Toro in that mid credit scene made me sit up and take notice. I'm definitely intrigued now, and I guess that was what Marvel wanted to achieve; to get the attention of the indifferent people like me.

Also, I LOVED the whole look and vibe of the film that we got, I'm extremely excited now.

I thought he was weird and awesome. Even in his over the top costume. It reminded me of the odd and colorful scifi movies of the 70's/8o's. Stuff like Demolition Man and The Fifth Element

He and his whole museum and assistant felt straight up out of 70's space opera pulp fiction.

Yeah, GOTG is going to be fun as ****.

I don't understand how you can be a fan of the GOTG comics and say that after seeing the Collector in the mid credit scene that your anticipation went down. It should have gone up!

I gotta feeling this film may be too weird/quirky for some, which of course makes it even more awesome! It's Captain Beefheart or Pere Ubu, not some top 40 pop act. Del Toro, as usual, completely owned the screen. I cannot wait for this crazy and glorious ****** to hit the screen.

If The Fifth Element can make $268m in 1997 then I think this film can do $500m in 2014.

Agreed. Everything I see from this flick makes me more psyched and curious. Great scene.

Totally. I think Rocket will be the film's saving grace with the general public in the way Bruce brought the people in way back when.

If it is good, it will be ok. The release date isn't the best, but if it is good it has the studio cred to do business. The mid-credit sequence was pretty groovy imo.

I thought the Collector looked interesting but the execution of that scene was just not good. it looked like a test shot. And the set isn't pretty.

I truly enjoyed the scene!

I loved it. It had a very pulpy feel to it. Perfect.

I thought Tivan was ultimately powerful though. He didn't quite seem so. At least not more powerful than Bowie in Labyrinth.

he seems to avoid answering that cause it would lead too assumptions he may not intend in the film...and yes looks like they build him up to be the new rdj for the next decade. after age of ultron i think we wont see tony stark that much again...and will later bee replaced with a new actor to use the iron man suit if thats the intention to keep involving iron man
