Hey, where's Chelsea? I'm looking at something on Craig's List, and it says the location is Chelsea.

Chelsea is right next to Clinton or "Hell's Kitchen"
I go to college in the kitchen

I don't know how to cook. Unless something that comes packaged counts.

They'll teach you. Mostly you just have to learn how to reheat slices in the oven and run the register.

I dread having a job where I have to run a register. I don't trust myself with other people's money.

You could always be one of those people that holds the stop signs in construction zones. Those people make an assload of money for basically standing around and doing nothing all damn day.

I'm going to intern with the US Marshalls as soon as possible

haha,my mom used to do that ****. I don't like having to stand for a long time, especially in the sun. ****ing heatwave coming up!

Are you doing a lot of online applications through services like monster.com and careerbuilder.com?

jag
Well, I started off several days ago with monster, but realized that looking on craig's list and applying seperately is more densely filled with opportunity. I like cherry picking the cool sounding jobs from there rather than letting monster filter stuff out according to vague preferences.

Check careerbuilder.com, too. The more places you've got your resume' floating around, and the more places you can look through listings, the better chance you've got. Jobs go fast in NYC, usually. Yahoo has a pretty good jobs listing section as well.

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to apply to jobs posted on craig's within the day they're posted, or I forget about it. They only put up about 5 in the writing section each day it seems, with only one or so that I'm qualified for. Either way, there's that one low paying job that's pretty much a lock, but at least it would get me to NY.

I'm guessing none of you have been to Tompkins Square Park...

****ing outlook express. I thought I'd emailed two resumés out really quickly, and it seems like they've just been sitting in some sort of ****ing "outbox" instead of actually being sent. I normally just go through hotmail itself, but I needed something that could do formatting stuff, so I went through the hotmail address using outlook. What the hell? ****ing ****.

I just discovered that you have to hit "send" and then hit some other button called "send/recieve all"? What the hell kind of ******ed procedure is that?

Well the first place wanted the body of the email to be a cover letter, so I needed formatting options that hotmail.com doesn't seem to do. ****. So now I sent them a day later than I thought. Man, that better not cost me the job.

I wouldn't use a Hotmail account, dude. A lot of companies flat out block Hotmail because so much spam gets generated through that email service.

jag

****, should I re-email with something else? Would it be bad to re-email at this point with a little note saying I thought they might have hotmail blocked?

Yeah, they have a number. But I'm replying through craig's list, it said to email.

I'd follow up with them in a few days by phone, just to make sure they got it and tell them at that point that you were concerned that they might block Hotmail from their email servers due to heavy spam from Hotmail since many companies do that. But I'd use a different email address for any resume's you send out after that. Preferrably one from your ISP or maybe a Gmail account as that service doesn't seem to get blocked much and a lot of people are using that service for business.

jag

Well, maybe it would be safer just to resend it with a little note at the top saying "sorry if this is a repeat, but it just occured to me that hotmail addresses might be blocked by your company, as many companies often do)" ?
