They say you can't get anything for free. Not so in New York, where you can enjoy some of the very best music, dance, theater, and film the city has to offer and pay absolutely nothing. The best part is that most of the free events are in summer, and usually outside. The Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic give free concerts in parks scattered around all five boroughs.
