Anyone know any cheap state to state moving companies? I've checked out a few on the net, and so far I've been getting stuff in the 800-1000 range for moving from PA to NY. There's no way I can afford that!

Not much, just a small apt's worth of stuff. I could even ditch my tv. No furniture, just stuff really. I might have overestimated the weight, but taking it down would probably just mean a couple hundred bucks. It's looking like I"m gonna have to u-haul it. Which sucks because a) Not familiar driving to NY, or even in my very own city b) haven't driven in 4 years c) haven't driven anything but cars.

or better yet get some Mexican workers. (btw, that's not a racist comment. they really are hard working and reliable people)

I can't think of any that would want to drive to NY. And any that would, I wouldn't really trust driving a van anymore than I would myself.

From what I understand, that's actually an average price for a state to state move. How much stuff do you have, you might to go the hard route and U-Haul it. Have friends that can help you move?

Hm, I wonder how much it would cost me to mail all my stuff in boxes. I could part with stuff like my microwave, or anything of that size, the only big thing is my computer really. Actually, that's probably just as expensive if not more.

Well, according to USPS.com, a 25 lb. package with the dimensions of 15" x 15" x 20", and being considered an oversized package is a around $11 to ship from Philly to Manhattan through media mail and around $18 for Priorety.

I wouldn't FedEx/UPS any valuables or things like your computer. Breakables might not be a good idea, either. But, you could send a lot of your stuff to yourself that way. I'd say bite the bullet and get a small UPS truck and load the f**k out of it and just make the one-way drive. It'll be less hassle in the long run and probably just about even out on the cost, including the gas.

The problem with that, is that I'm worried for my life. I can get everything into a van, I'm sure, so it's not even a truck, but even then, for me, it's a dangerous drive. I wonder if greyhound offers any special side deals for bringing extra ****.

Hm, I wonder if there are any bums out there that can drive a truck and would be willing to drive up there and relocate for a hundred bucks.

Another option you might check into is the train to see how much extra cargo will cost to bring. The problem with the bus or the train is that you've gotta figure out how to get your sh1t from the station to your new digs. Speaking of which, did you find a place?
