The Bourne Legacy - Part 1

The Bourne Legacy was a boring peice of ****. Renner is a mostly dull lead in action films and Weisz's performance was beyond cliche and annoying. I was on the verge of stopping the movie several times while viewing it.

That sucks for Renner. He was supposed to take over both Mission Impossible & Bourne. But with Tom Cruise continuing on with Mission Impossible & now Matt Damon maybe coming back as Bourne. But with Bourne I think both could co exist

I would never want him leading MI. That's Cruise's franchise and he does a great job at being the face of the franchise.

It would be really nice to get another BOurne with Damon, as long as it's got a solid story.

Universal have denied they are in negotiations with Damon and Greengrass according to Variety, shame, it would be nice to see them come back.

More interesting things need to be done with Aaron Cross to keep people invested in this franchise, I hope Gilroy doesnt return to direct, TBL was at least 15 mins to long and the action was severely lacking compared to what had come before. They have a good core cast in Renner, Weisz and Norton and yet in the last movie did very little with them, use them this time.

Simon Mayo bet Paul Greengrass that if Tottenham Hotspurs qualify for the Champions League he will direct another Bourne film

I hated this film when it came out but now not so much. It's not great and pales in comparison to the previous 3 but I don't regard it to be a colossal catastrophe.

It's just so bland compared to the other three. It had some good ideas but it didn't go far enough with them. And introducing Renner's character by having him run around alone in the woods for the first half hour or so was a terrible idea.

I will say this. When I first watched film, the idea of a super soldier was jarring. However I had to remember that Jason Bourne is a superhero. He rode a dude down an entire flight of stairs while shooting his gun with perfect accuracy, escaped from a totaled vehicle (twice) mainly unharmed, bashed through a glass door without a scratch, drove a car off the top of a parking deck in reverse, etc.

Well in that case, Vin Diesel was playing a superhero in the latest FF movie.

I am the same, after watching it a few more times I have grown to somewhat like it, its still 15 mins too long and is not anyway near as good as the 1st 3, but its decent.

Justin Lin to Direct THE BOURNE LEGACY Sequel; Jeremy Renner Set to Return

After helming the last four Fast & Furious movies, Justin Lin will move to another action franchise to direct the follow-up film to The Bourne Legacy. Jeremy Renner is set to return as Aaron Cross in a sequel story scripted by Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus). With Lin directing and Peckham writing, it looks like Tony Gilroy – who penned the previous four Bourne films and directed Legacy - may be stepping aside. No title has been set just yet, but if Universal sticks with the titles of the novel series, then it may just be The Bourne Betrayal. The studio is looking to release the film in the summer of 2015. Hit the jump for more.

the-bourne-betrayal-book-coverNews on Lin’s attachment to helm the new Bourne movie comes via Deadline. Though the character of Jason Bourne was created by author Robert Ludlum, the stories set in Bourne’s world were taken over by author Eric Van Lustbader. While Van Lustbader’s The Bourne Legacy differed quite a bit from the plot of Gilroy’s movie adaptation – swap Bourne for Cross – Universal might like the next book title enough to slap it on the feature treatment. Also written by Van Lustbader, here’s the synopsis for The Bourne Betrayal (via Amazon):

Already devastated by loss, Bourne is shattered by a report that his last friend in the world, Martin Lindros has gone missing. A CI deputy director, Lindros was in Ethiopia tracking suspicious shipments of yellowcake uranium and atomic bomb weaponry. His last lifeline to humanity, Bourne will not let Lindros go. Despite his hatred for CI, Bourne sets out to rescue his friend and finish the job: dismantling a terrorist network determined to build nuclear armaments by cutting off their source of money. But Bourne doesn’t realize that these men, Islamic supremacists, are leaders of an incredibly dangerous, technologically savvy group with ties from Africa, across the Middle East, and into Eastern Europe and Russia. They have predicted Bourne’s every move, and are counting on his unwitting help in their plans to destroy America.

To anyone expecting Damon to return, just stop. We all know he isn't until the one after this one. If he does return for this, I will eat my shorts.

Dont think I have ever seen a Lin movie, unless he did F&F4, if he did that is the only one of his I have seen and it was below average. But the two F&F's since have got decent critical receptions and been very successful.

Plus, he seems like a director who will go for practical stunts over CGI and that is a good thing for this franchise. He seems a decent pick despite my limited knowledge of him.

I love Lin's Fast & Furious movies, the guy shoots great action, it'll be interesting to see what he does with a franchise like this that has a more sombre tone.

The Bourne Legacy was a POS, but Lin revived one franchise back from the dead so who knows.

Granted that was after he directed the WORST installment of the franchise.

You liked 2 Fast more than Tokyo Drift? Neither film would I call 'great cinema', but 2 Fast is particularly terrible, imho. Easily the worst of the franchise.

Next 'Bourne' Pic to Hit Theaters in Late Summer 2015

Justin Lin's untitled Bourne film will open in theaters Aug. 14, 2015. The next chapter in the action-spy franchise returns Jeremy Renner in the role of Aaron Cross following the 2012 box office success of The Bourne Legacy.

It's the first time Lin has directed a Bourne pic for Universal. He's most famous for directing the Fast & Furious movies, but isn't at the helm of Fast & Furious 7, which has become shrouded in tragedy following the death of Paul Walker in a car crash during a hiatus from shooting.
Longtime Bourne producer Frank Marshall is returning for the next installment, and will produce alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Inspired by author Robert Ludlum's book series, the Bourne film franchise underwent a major transformation with the departure of star Matt Damon and arrival of Renner in the lead role in The Bourne Legacy.
Universal also announced a Aug. 8, 2014 release date for Luc Besson's Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. The action-thriller, produced by Virginie Besson-Silla and Besson's EuropaCorp, follows a woman who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior.

Hope they don't ruin the franchise further.

And yes I thought Tokyo Drift was the worst of the Fast franchise. Do yeah Lin redeemed himself later with the franchise but that was after he did the worst one.
