The Bourne Legacy - Part 1

Meh. Not sold on Jeremy Renner as lead. I didn't mind Legacy though.

It's just so bland compared to the other three. It had some good ideas but it didn't go far enough with them. And introducing Renner's character by having him run around alone in the woods for the first half hour or so was a terrible idea.

That was the best part of the movie

There is certainly room for improvement over Legacy, hopefully they can get the franchise back on track and Cross can become a character we really root for like Bourne.

Have they announced who's writing this one? I'm worried about that a lot more than the director change. Gilroy clearly wasn't the right director for this franchise, but he was THE writer for it. A change in the writing might be the most jarring change of all for me.

True, I hope Gilroy is still on board as a writer at least, I think he liked his own script too much with Legacy as that movie should have been at least 15 mins shorter. But with Lin directing I bet he could make the movie tighter from a Gilroy script.

I'm sure they won't, but they should really drop the 'Bourne' from this going forward. Call it 'The Cross Outcome' or something.

And I'd like to see them get back to having an up and coming solid actor, in the vein of Clive Owen and Karl Urban, as an opposing agent. Maybe someone like a Sullivan Stapleton or Joel Edgerton.

Greengrass speaks on the Bourne franchise:

"The problem with franchise films is, if you do one too many that is not good, you’ve ruined the whole thing for yourself. I couldn’t come up with an idea, and the business reality of franchises is that when a studio has a Bourne, they’re obliged to make one every couple of years. I discovered in my heart I didn’t have another one in me. I would be going through the motions and I could never do that. On the first two Bourne films, I gave 1000 percent commitment. I was full of new ideas when I came in and took over, I knew there were things I could do and had a vision. The best thing was to move on, have someone else come in and make their mark on it."

Well, according to Eh Maybe, Matt Damon is going to return as Jason Bourne in the fifth film. Not sure if that means Renner is out or if they're both going to be in it. If this is true, it will pretty much be the only thing that gets me to see it, because I thought Bourne Legacy was pretty weak.

One thing is for sure if the rumor is true. The movie NEEDS to be called Still Bourne. :D

i never clocked a minute with bourne legacy becuase it just didnt look interesting to me at all. If Damon comes back for a team up then it feels like hes doing the studio a favor and collecting a big payday. I dont want another unless its an interesting and compelling story to be told other wise no thank you.

I'm not that interested in another so-called Bourne movie starring Aaron Cross.

The Bourne Legacy was meh. Not nearly as good as the first 3.

Some franchises should know when to quit.

El Maybe is probably full of **** but Justin Lin signing on makes more sense if Damon is involved. Please say Damon is involved because I will continue to wonder why Justin Lin is wasting his time doing a follow up to this awful film when he could bringing his talents to a comicbook movie.

Legacy was terrible and ruined the last three movies.

I thought Damon made it clear that if Greengrass isnt involved then he wouldn't be?

I'll have a flicker of interest in a supposed Damon return when it comes from someone with a shred of credibility, which is not "El Mayimbe".

He did. Greengrass called a fourth movie "The Bourne Redundancy", and Damon said he wouldn't do it without Greengrass.

IMO, the studio should have just let it end there, but ya know, they think Bourne is still a bankable name and they want more money, so they shove a movie out there without Bourne and call it Bourne.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind one more with Damon just to close out his story, Ultimatum kind of ended inconclusively so it'd be nice to have a swansong movie for Bourne.

The thing is though Jason bourne's story is done. We followed his story through 3 pictures and we found out how he lost his memory, what he did and how he was recruited and no offense but the way it was presented in the 3rd one about him volunteering was kinda anticlimatic. But overall the character has run its course and has no more motive to be pursued.

Damon's always been open to a sequel. All of his words just seemed like a cute way of saying, "give me an offer."

Supernova, the problem is Aaron Cross sucked and his movie sucked. It was the worst reviewed and lowest grossing movie of the franchise domestically. It made less money domestically than Bourne Identity made in 2002. No one wants to see another Aaron Cross movie.

Universal is obviously aware of this and trying to get as much juice out of this franchise as they can. The fact is that using Cross as the new star didn't work.

Not to mention his story pretty much did everything that was accomplished in Bourne Ultimatum.

I damn sure have no interest in watching the adventures of Aaron Cross. Like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I think "The Adventures of the Guy Who isn't Jason Bourne 2" is going to have a huge drop from the first one domestically. The first one did what did based on curiosity and the sequel won't have that ace in the hole.

Universal is talking about a Snow White and The Huntsman 2 so yes they are totally desperate.

Just look at these numbers. This was a franchise where each sequel did better than the last up until Ultimatum! That's almost unheard of. Then Legacy did even less than the original.

People did not like Aaron Cross. Face it. Why do you think this movie got delayed? They don't know how to proceed.

I like Renner, but the only reason I watched Legacy was Weisz. It just isn't a good film imo.

I don't think Renner was good in Legacy and that is probably screenplay and director's fault.

You don't think Universal tried to get him back?

He was asked to be a low rent Bourne by a director with not much experience, who clearly didn't understand what made Greengrass' films work so well.

Yeah, I don't think their first idea was lets replace our very popular lead and title character. :funny:
