The Dark Knight Rises The Box Office Thread

Children of Men is on my top 10 list of all-time favorite movies.

World of KJ has a thread titled "The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of F*** 3D"

I love those guys. :lmao:

What I love about Children of men is that it gives a big FU to exposition and only lets its visuals fill in the blank. Even on my tenth viewing I noticed something new in the background I didn't know existed before.

This is perfectly demonstrated with the scene where all the soldiers stop fighting, in complete awe of the newborn baby. Then start fighting again after.

That is what cinema is all about. No dialogue, but it's just so emotional and the theme of the movie, hope, is just perfectly encapsulated.

It's too early to predict the specific opening weeked numbers. Even with the avengers i think estimates were off by 50 million in projections just a week earlier.

I will say the buzz for tdkr will be even larger than tdk was at debut time. I think tdk's debut numbers should be seen at the low end of estimates. Not to mention it will be in more imax theatres than its predecessor as will the publics urge to see it in imax.

Didn't the guy say he was done making movies.

He's shooting one right now. :funny:

Well I meant he said he was done after making a couple of more projects. Don't know if he amended that.

Still, without 3D, it's not clearing 200 million...unless theatres run it 24 hours straight for 3 days....which ain't happening.

Last time they had 2AM and 4AM showings all weekend, at least in NYC...just sayin'.

But, they weren't running the film 24 hours for three days. That can happen for opening day as it did in certain parts of the country for Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

Rises' only two trump cards are that it's the end of Nolan's trilogy and the fact that it has IMAX basically all to itself from July to October, from what I understand.

WB is going to have to play the long game with Rises. But, even with that, 3D skews the entire game. From now on, films in 3D are the ones that are going to be breaking the records....it's a fact of life in today's cinema climate.

It's going to be hard for TDKR's to open with 200mil without 3D.

It's not going to. That's pretty much a given.

52% of Avengers tickets sold this past weekend were 3D. You can't compete with those kind of numbers.

If IMAX had as many screens as 3D did, then we'd be having a different discussion.

TDKR will have 3AM and 6AM showings but that is only for the day of release. Demand won't be so great that they will have to keep it open for 24 hours the entire weekend.

TDKR has no shot at $200+ million without 3D. WB should move it to Wednesday so they can get a couple extra weekdays in July, which is the peak time for kids being out of school.

I think its fine where it is. I won't hit the record but it would still be pretty high.

I have a feeling it opens even with the Avengers. When the trailer came on in the theater I was in there was a lot of "Shut up's!!" & "Oh *&ck yeah!!!"

There aren't enough screens in America for TDkR to break the record in 2D. It just isn't possible.

Meh, opening weekend. The only No. that matters is total sales.

TDKR is going to be in it for the long haul.

Avenegers was great, but the next week will be the real test. Does it have staying power? I know I'll be seeing it again.

Remember it doesn't matter if it breaks records or not. If it's good is all that should matter.

Yes it'll hold next week. Very good chance of even making $100 million since it doesn't have direct competition.
