600 mil domestic is hard to imagine. 500 more like.
The Batman is arguably the most popular comic book superhero amongst the mainstream audience. Hell, even BATMAN RETURNS and BATMAN AND ROBIN made money and they’re both crap.
A certain somebody on a certain website talking about TDKR's box office hopes:
Was that really neccesary?
This. This person simply doesn't need to continually remind people how much he despises Batman Returns. He has done more to fuel the utterly pointless conflict between Nolan and Burton Batman fans than anyone else. Like in this review of Burton's Alice in Wonderland he states-What...? The comment generally, or that they think Batman Returns was crap - because it wasn't.![]()
Yes, I HATE BATMAN RETURNS. I flat-out despise that film and will take a shot at it just about every chance I get here on BOF -- that's how I roll.

You like it? I love it.I like Batman Returns![]()
Didn't even know there was a conflict between them. Is there a Marvel Vs DC, Xbox Vs PS, Pc Vs Mac, for everything?!This. Returns is actually my 3rd favorite batman film after tdk and bb.
I like it a lot!You like it? I love it.
It's like sports fans, and people treat that as pretty normal.![]()
It's a bit different with TDKR as it's the last of the trilogy and we can enjoy the film whatever happens at the box office. I would have been depressed as hell if Batman Begins bombed like John Carter. When it affects the prospect of future films it will negatively impact my life! Same for if Avengers had bombed. Aside from that I want good films that I like to get rewarded and bad ones punished. Hollywood only learns and adapts from box office mistakes and successes and it is the reason we have come from the depths of Batman & Robin to TDKR.Some people take it too far, though. For example, those who are so obsessed with box office that they become depressed when "their" film doesn't earn X number of dollars. Why would you be upset about that? Is your life going to be negatively impacted? It shouldn't be.
I like Batman Returns
I suppose the point is any Batman film will make a minimum amount of money. He probably is the individual most popular superhero in film history (not by a big distance though).
Yeah because Nolan fans never tried to shove the B.O. of TDK in the face of Marvel fans.
There's blood on both sides of the fence, I'm not defending what anyone said here. However there have been plenty of people that have said 1.) Avengers wouldn't break the record 2.) that Avengers had no chance of being larger than TDKR and 3.) Avengers would only beat TDK because of inflation and 3D.
Well now we know all three of those are untrue, and now the people who initiated the flame war are acting like this is no big deal.
It's a big deal when a movie breaks a record like this. It was a big deal for Spider-man, POTC, Spider-man3 and TDK, and now for Avengers.
I'm not saying it's not a big deal that Avengers broke the record. And I never said ANYTHING trying to lump all Marvel fans together. I was simply saying that MovieWorldExpress is an attention-starved d-bag who makes fanboys of all ilk look bad. Redundant and obvious to say that? Guilty. But hey, if we could all agree on the above, that would be a step in the right direction.
Also, 2008 was a different time. Marvel Studios was just getting off the ground. When TDK broke the record, it was more about just being happy so see Batman restored to glory. If anything, I recall some happiness about it taking the record from "Spider-Man 3"... and not because Spidey is Marvel, just because most people hated that movie and loved TDK.
I think that's the view of most on here. However there's people (on both sides) who at the time used TDK as a thing to bash other CB movies.
I'm not familiar with that YT channel, but yeah there's idiot fanboys everywhere, and as someone mentioned, it's no different than Mac vs PC, or Giants vs Cowboys. People will always pick something to square off against. And keep in mind when I say "fanboy" I'm talking about the folks on SHH who active root against another franchise, either "DC sucks" or "Marvel sucks"
But I remember when Spider-man 2 came out someone came on the spider-man boards and posted that Spider-man 2 would be crushed by Batman Begins, almost a year before it came out. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about.
Avengers has the record, if TDKR manages to beat it so much the better. I'm not sure that it can because since Avengers had a higher opening weekend attendance than TDK, I don't think TDKR can grow it's audience to the level nessesary to generate that much revenue without 3D boost. Right now I see TDKR opening from 172 (which is TDK's number adjusted for inflation)-190. And that's a good take.
TDKR will smoke Avengers! At least 5-30x as much opening weekend AND total!

Very true. If BB had Green Lanterned or John Cartered, we wouldn't have gotten TDK. TDKR not doing "well" in the box office would only affect Nolan, but it's arguable he's proven himself enough anyway. At least enough to earn himself a second chance. It's a bit different with TDKR as it's the last of the trilogy and we can enjoy the film whatever happens at the box office. The Avengers thread are posting the Forbes article which is touting the 26 million admissions. Everyone I've seen on box office forums say that's inaccurate, it's more like 22.2 million for Avengers vs. 22 million for TDK. Higher, but not by that much.Without 3D, TDKR's chances of breaking the OW record are low but not impossible. The Hunger Games raked in 152 million on its OW. Now, imagine what an established film franchise with a brand name director could do on OW.
While Potter broke the OW record and outgrossed TDK, Batman still sold more tickets than Potter in America.
Iron Stark, you're acting as if The Avengers completely outclassed TDK at midnight and in ticket sales. The numbers are close. Who is to say TDKR won't match those ticket sale or midnight numbers?
