The Brave and the Bold News and Discussion Thread

Maybe; but Driver's a good comedic performer too. Always love him on SNL. He could give us the good character melodrama while still dealing with the zaniness that comes with Gunn's DCU.
But he's too ugly to be a star. :o

What about Driver as the DCU Batman?

He's the perfect choice for DCU Joker.

What about Driver as the DCU Batman?

He was one of my few candidates to play Batman in Reeves' movie.
I actually think he would also make an interesting old-school and sinister Joker... Just like all the great actors who have played Batman could probably play a great Prince of Crime on their own (Keaton, Bale, Pattinson). Otherwise, I could also see him in the role of Harvey Dent...

But coming back to the DCU, and despite what I just said, I feel like that universe needs another vibe for its Batman...

Thinking wayyyyyy back. Wasn’t Driver considered for Lex Luthor in the BvS days or am I just imagining that? Wither way, he’d have been better than Eisenberg.

Then again, a tape dispenser would have been better too.

Now that you mention it, it rings a bell...
If that was indeed the case, he really dodged a bullet there. That disaster, on top of the (lame) mockery about his look in Star Wars, would have been too much...

Well... he still ended up in Megalopolis...

He's the perfect choice for DCU Joker.
His voice is a bit too deep for my own personal tastes and he seems a bit overqualified based off of what we've seen of the DCU's cast so far.

These guys did a casting sesh on Batman tonight. Some of their choices are so cringe (Milo V? Seriously?) And Ackles please go away already I’m glad you cosplayed as Red Hood once woo hoo). But they brought up Theo James, who I still really like for a slightly older Batman. He really felt like a Bruce Wayne to me in The Gentlemen and I could totally see it. Devilishly handsome at 40 but could pass for 10 years younger; you watch him in White Lotus and can easily see him as public persona playboy Bruce.

They also nailed the issue with Alden Ehrenreich and it finally hit me in the face. Great actor but he’s just not cool. His Han Solo was fine but he’s not cool, and Han needs to be cool. He just isn’t. Batman obviously has to also be cool.

Alden (again great actor) just seems too slight and uncertain to ever have that cool factor that a Batman or Han Solo needs.

Alden would be great but he's an obvious casualty to Gunn's position on height.

But THE BOYS! :o

Am I the only one who wouldn't be upset if Andy Muschietti actually ended up directing this? I liked his take on Keaton's Batman.

For my part, I think Keaton’s success in this comeback as more down to the actor himself than anything else… The material was what it was, but he really sells the aging, lost Bruce Wayne, ready for one last ride. And his Batman is still so effortlessly charismatic (he'll always be my favorite).

Now, I'm not going to lie, the Russia sequence did get the kid in me excited. Like said, Keaton is oozing coolness in it, and it's really quite a sequence in the glory of this Batman. But if I really look at the visuals, the way the character is filmed, etc., I find it just about okay. A few nice shots here, a lot of very flabby CGI doubles there…

Ultimately, what really worked for me were elements inherited from Burton work. There’s nothing in Muschietti’s own direction that makes me want him helming a full Batman film. I mean, he's still responsible for Batfleck's horrible rendering in the intro (seriously, what happened there?) and the awfully looking final scene in the desert…

But to talk about The Flash as a whole, without saying that it's a good movie, I think it was largely in line with the norm for the genre. I imagine that with a lead actor who was more likable and less controversial, the movie would probably have a better reputation.

Keaton's return was a success? in what way. certainly not at the box office.
and when it comes to the more important thing, his characterization, he's a caricature of himself with nothing to do in the movie besides dying in the stupidest way possible. what muschietti did with all batmen in that movie should discard him from ever touching the character

Keaton’s performance is fun but it could have been literally any Batman on the page. Bringing him back as the DCEU Batman was a super fun idea but they made him feel so generic. I barely believe the script was written with him in mind and not just ‘insert legacy Batman here’.

I just find it weird that Gunn still won't divulge the name of the screenwriter for this project, especially in light of how much he's been talking up other newly joined writers to the DCU, such as Ana Nogueira. One of our most reliable trade reporters, Borys Kit of THR, hinted a while back that there might not be a screenwriter, period. I don't know if I'd go that far myself, but I am growing increasingly curious about Gunn's continued radio silence as the days go by.

I think that is because the screenwriter goes by the initials JG.

Yeah, I considered that and still think it's a very real possibility, but, with him already writing the next Superman project, I'm not so sure anymore. It'd definitely explain his reluctance to reveal the mysterious writer's identity, though.

Another possibility I've considered is that the writer is also a director and revealing their name would be a bit awkward with Andy still publicly attached to direct.

That would be wonderful news, but I don't know. Andy keeps popping up like the pushy paperboy from Better Off Dead. :sadcat:

Case in point...

Actually watched Flash again last night, the movie is honestly fine, it just had to many "only" fine things in it. Ezra the person, the long overdone development, bad cgi, I still maintain I like it.

With all that being said Andy is neither a make or break, Gunn is probably ghost -directing this no matter what so eh.

And as far as the writer, I believe Gunn said he didn't reveal them because he didn't want people pestering them like they do Reeves, etc. It's up to you to believe that or not but I don't think everything is some hidden agenda, he had no problem kicking Cavill to the curb and I'm sure he's got more fans than Andy...(Maybe?)

I haven’t seen The Flash and never will. I can’t stand to see characters I like butchered any longer.

In the way that he wasn't lame to look at... Not that it was a risk anyway!

It's just that... Like I said, that movie didn't had much for itself.
But even though Keaton played a Batman here that wasn't really the one portrayed before – as you and @SwordOfMorning mentioned, it's clear that they wrote this Batman character vaguely enough to fit any actor agreeing to return – there was still some joy to see him there for me.

A joy composed of 95% frustration that the film wasn't something else...

Some old manips I had made back then.
