BvS The BvS Ultimate Cut Thread

from a technical standpoint, isn't adding a shot or two to a scene a pain in terms of the score/music?

Hearing they added one shot to the opening montage...how would that not throw off the score?

Actually, the theatrical cut was the one that had to adjust because it does seem that this ultimate cut was done first...and they cut down afterwards.

By definitive you mean an improvement over the rubbish we got in theaters.

I didn't think the theatrical cut was rubbish. I really, really like that cut of the film. This cut is better.

If the plot is cleaned up as much as they say then my score could rise from 4/10 up to 6/10. I think the tone will still be too dismal for my taste, though.

I will say, the tone gets even more somber in this cut...but I personally think it's appropriate.

A warning; the first 30 minutes might be jarring because things got way rearranged in the opening half hour to 40 minutes.

how were things rearranged?

So, after the bathtub scene with Lois and Clark, they cut to the Gotham scene and our first intro into Bats which leads to the scene with Bruce and Alfred in the cave...well, the bathtub scene comes after the Gotham scene (which by the way, Gotham City gets a proper intro in this cut), then we get the bathtub scene (with another shirtless shot of Cavill, then we get the scene between Alfred and Bruce. It all makes sense.)

They also keep all of Lex's first scenes together in this cut instead of splitting them between others.

Also, it is very clear ( I thought it was clear in the theatrical cut but...) that Lex wanted Bruce and Clark to meet at the Library gala. Not only does Bruce get his invite to the thing, so does Clark.

Wait, wait wait....when you say Gotham City gets a proper intro, you mean...establishing shot???

I would call it one, yes.

We see the two cops in the squad car, watching the football game between Gotham and Metropolis and then when they get the call, Snyder does a crane shot of the squad car taking off and then pans up to a billboard about Gotham City. In the background, you see the city and from the billboard and the city in the background, you can tell...Gotham ain't nice.

Since you've seen the UC, I have a question: Is the scene of Superman helping people after the Capital explosion a quick image? Or a fleshed-out sequence?

Jumpman, I love you. Thank you for that. That was one thing that bothered me in the TC is we never got an introduction to this new Gotham City, I could never tell when we were in Metropolis or Gotham.

Semi-fleshed out sequence. It's a real nice one. I am actually stunned it didn't make the cut...out of all the cuts that got made, that's the one I don't quite understand. Somber and painful scene for Clark, but one EMT appreciated his help.

Thank you for the answer. That sounds much better than how the scene played out in the TC. I was highly critical of how the Capital scene was handled.

On the billboard, there's graffiti. It says..."The End Is Nigh".

We also get another semi-establishing shot of Gotham. When Clark takes the ferry to Gotham, we get a shot of him looking at Gotham. My sense from the scene/shot...Clark's never really been to Gotham. That's how it comes off.

I didn't mind how it played out in the theatrical cut but it's implied that helped get all those people out...injured and dead.

Also, when he takes off, there's varies types of dialogue thrown at Superman. Some good, some bad.

Makes no sense to have cut that out! :argh:

The Knightmare, the Flash and the Bat from the Crypt had most people scratching their head though, which contributed to complaints that those scenes made no sense, though no one complained about similar scene of Thor having visions in the Cave pool in Avengers: AoU. :oldrazz:

Key difference: the vision scene in AoU was framed as the character deliberately seeking out a vision. It didn't just come out of nowhere as a contextless story-jink that only sort of gets explained ( but not really ).

Wait til you see Martha's intro scene. Really nice one where Clark calls his Mom after we witness the "Does the World Need a Superman" montage. He's really trying to figure things out and Martha can tell that Clark is struggling. Again, another nice moment. And it's a better establishing moment for Martha than what we got in theatrical cut (which, is still in the film but makes sense because we already say Martha already).

My final question and then I'm going to hold off knowing more until I watch it: is there more action added in? Like action beats. Its not a deal breaker or anything but it'd be cool if there was :)

They need to rerelease this as part of a double feature before JL releases. If this version is a vast improvement, it deserves to be seen in theaters at least once.

That's great. Some of my fave moments between MOS and BvS are the moments between Clark and his mother.

Jumpman, are the BvS fight and Doomsday fight extended? Also with Batman breaking into LexCorp, is that scene fleshed out or is it entirely through camera feeds like in the trailer?

Perfect. My final question and then I'm going to hold off knowing more until I watch it: is there more action added in? Like action beats. its not a deal breaker or anything but it'd be cool if there was :)

Besides the Africa sequence, yeah, there's more. There a bit more in the Batman warehouse sequence. There's a tad more between Bats and Supes in the big confrontation(Right before Superman launches him and Bats through the building, he throws Bats down an alley, sizes him up, then goes through the building. It's quite nice).

Also, when Batman turns on the signal, we got a version of the Batman theme from the soundtrack. Well, in this cut, we he turns on the signal, it's the actual theme from the soundtrack, note for note...sound for sound. It's way more badass.

Also, yes, the woman who testifies before Senator Finch was indeed paid by Lex to say those things. Clark looks for her first as part of his investigation. Lois runs into her at one point. It's interesting how she weaves, in the background, in the film.
