Fair enough as far as a franchise goes, but I don't entirely agree with you that there isn't an element of predictability as far as a films success goes. I think there is plenty of drawing power to this movie.

And as far as a sequel goes, there are already rumours, that Brad pitt will play the main villain, based on a quote by Guy Ritchie, and hints about the end of the first SH, and I think its a pretty good bet that if theres a chance at having Brad Pitt as a main character in your movie, no studio is going to ignore that.

I'm hoping Caspar Van dien gets the role. He looks alot like Steve Rogers. And he has experience with playing the awesome way cool army type from Starship Troopers 1, and 3. He is 40 years old though. But just look how good emil was in The Incredible hulk. I think he'd be a great choice.

If it's a movie based on Spider-Man or some other popular modren story it will almost always make a certain amount but SH is up in the air right now.

Planing a sequel and making one are two completely different things. If the movie makes less than 100mil domestically, don't expect that sequel.

That is never going to happen. Ever. If they were going to go with an older Cap (which is HIGHLY, HIGHLY unlikely) they would hardly choose Van Dien over Matt Damon, or Leonardo or some other big name. Also, no. Just no.

Okay, no offense, but i think you're being a little naive and ignorant to what a well known literary figure Sherlock Holmes is.... Comparing him to Spidey is just silly... Sure all the teenage kids who love Spidey might not get Holmes, but what about their parents? What about all the adults that grew up reading Conan Doyle's book? Personally, I think its got a wider angle going than Spidey... I know heaps of comic fans are going to see it JUST for Robert Downey Jr, because he plays Iron Man.

If it's too early to tell if a movie is going to succeed, then it's definitely too early to tell if a movie is going to fail, and your attitude definitely implies that you expect the latter.

I'm not expecting a success or failure right now. I just hate it when people assume every movie that they are interested in is going to be a huge success.

I know how well known Sherlock Holmes is but well known doesn't equal the kinda of boxoffice dollars you seem to be thinking about. You saying that it has a wider angle going than Spider-Man is ridiculous. Parents like watching the Spider-Man flicks just as much as teenagers.

Are you insinuating that Sherlock Holmes has a shot a 400+million dollars at the boxoffice? If the first movie is a well loved hit, anything is possible but the Sherlock Holmes movie coming out this year has only an itty-bitty chance of hitting those numbers.

Also, comicbook fans didn't make Iron Man a smash hit, normal moviegoers did.

Personally, sight unseen, I'm seeing a 115mil gross for the thing but that will change as it gets closer. Upward or downward? I just don't know right now.

Don't care for the director but the previews are cute and the cast is good. I hope Sherlock Holmes is a good movie.

He is too old and he's a terrible actor.

Yeah, I know what you mean...Hasn't anyone learnt anything from X-Men 3 and Wolverine? (Not to mention the countless other disappointments).

Well I personally enjoy Robert Downey Jr in anything. I think he chooses his films well.

Well the guy already said he wasn't even talking about SH so why is there even an argument going on about it?

That's just laughable.

We are way off topic.:o

Lol well we can get back on topic when something gets announced. And now I feel bad about laughing at that Casper Van Dien comment... Way too easy a target.

Laugh all you want. People said the same things when Rdj was cast as Iron Man. Or dinky little Liev Shrieber as Sabretooth. And they blew the **** away. I don't think you'd need to be the greatest actor in the world to play Steve Rogers. It's not excactly the deepest material ever. I love the guy as much as any body else, so don't at me with "You never read this issue when Steve fell in love with Hitler and they had to keep there love secret. Then at the end, they both kill themselves." I stand my statement. Unless you think That Micheal Papajohn guy who's going to play every villain in the sinister six in SP4 could play him. I could soooo see that.

But come on, Caspar Van Dien? Really? Have you ever actually sat down and watched Starship Troopers?

Starship Troopers is ruined because of all of the bad actors in it.

Whats the next suggestion? Denise Richards as his love interest?

people were skeptical over Liev and RDJ, but they weren't questioning their acting abilities, which both have in excess. Casper Van Dien is a terrible actor and is completely too old

Casper Van Dien? No...just, no.

And comparing him to two VERY talented actors in Downey Jr and Schrieber is insulting to them.

And of course you need a decent actor with experience in event films for Captain America. That's why I'm also not fond of the idea of nobodies.

They need to carry this iconic character. They need to NAIL this iconic character. They also have to deal with the pressure of playing this iconic character in a big budget, mid summer blockbuster. Also, when Avengers comes around you need to believe that they can lead the likes of Downey Jr.

So for me, no ****** b-movie actors and no nobodies.

Given that Thor is being played by a man who looks enough like Pine to play his dad in Star Trek, I don't think a similar looking actor should really be playing Cap do you?

>trying really hard to resist the urge to make an all-too-easy response Rob Liefield joke<

They'd need someone with an abnormally large left pectoral muscle for Cap if they are going with Liefeld inspired designs :awesome:

YES!! :funny:

I really hope they do a nod to Liefeld in the Deadpool movie. Have Pool make a crack about all the pouches on a soldier he is about to kill. Or have him pull out a gun thats bigger than his whole body and be like "Ahhh, Rob always said this would come in handy".

Haha.

Yeah, or have a remark about having a gun that looks like a hairdryer or something.

(damn, its easy to fall into the 'diss Liefield' trap)

Ace, you seem to have this theory that an unknown actor is entirely uncapable of handling anything... Do you realise how many actors don't make it in hollywood until they're in their mid twenties-early thirties? They spend years working hard as actors, to try and earn a living. Not every 'unknown' actor is some 19 year old, straight out of high school teenager.

I think that would be easier to do with an unknown. That way they make Cap bigger than the actor, like they did with the harry potter movies, and Daniel Craig for bond....

I want it to read " Joe Bloggs as CAPTAIN AMERICA", not "JOE BLOGGS as Captain America" :D
