attention marvel, here is your man:

Chris-Evans-in-Sunshine-chris-evans-8916074-728-435.jpg

a better choice than vogel, tatum, phillipe, stan, bethel, and lutz put together. Hopefully marvel is screentesting him this week like thr/deadline reported they would and will be dealmaking with him by this weekend. I can't even entertain the idea of maybe possibly tatum in this movie :csad:

Well, I'll give Marvel credit. They certainly know how to bring this thread together. Just a few weeks out from the Great Krasinski Wars we have near unanimous agreement that Evans is the best of the remaining choices and that Tatum should give up his "acting" entirely.

if u can even call what he does acting more like staring at the camera and making stupid faces

I'm not sure I'm a 100% on board with Evans, though. Frankly, these casting choices have yet to impress me. At least with Krasinski I thought they were going in a different direction than casting your regular, dime-a-dozen well-built action figure, but now.... :csad:

Evans, Phillippe and Hedlund are the lesser of these evils, but I'm hoping we're just being duped here. I want to be blown away by the casting, not respond with "Oh, well... meh."

I have a bad feeling about this... to quote Star Wars.

This movie is going to suck, I'm starting to feel it. I was already middle of the ground on Joe Johnston, but trying to be optimistic, but the casting choices says it all.

The cast is not done, each weeks we have new names, so...

Tatum? Ryan Phillippe? Why not just cast a block of wood and draw eyes and a mouth on it? Same effect.

This is going to be a movie along the lines of G.I. JOE or FANTASTIC FOUR or X-MEN 3. Some decent action, garbage writing, mediocre and campy acting. Defenders will spew some ******** about people need to go in and not take things so seriously and just enjoy the movie (as if enjoyment is some sort of active action), you know, the usual stuff that people say to justify a movie that sucks.

Not every movies are supposed to win a oscar, specially Superheroes movies, but it's my opinion, if I take a good moment with a movie, it's enough for me (I have found that lot of so-called "classic movies" are really boring).

Kind of like how for Batman Begins, the moment you heard that Christian Bale was cast as Bruce and Michael Caine was Alfred, at that point you immediately knew it was going to be a serious movie with good acting, you didnt even need to read a director's comments on the 'feel' of the movie, you just knew.

I have always found Bale very mediocre in Batman, the same expression in his face and he seem to lisp when te talk, like he have a big tongue or something like that, not a big fan of Ryan Phillipe (he is not Steve Roger for me), but I have found him better actor that Bale.

I'm somewhat ok if they go in a more dry humor 'ordinary guy' direction, but that requires ACTING SKILL too. Evans was reasonably funny/charismatic in FF, and Krasinski has shown acting chops in Leatherheads and The Office so I'm ok with him too. BUT FOR GODS SAKE NO WOOD-FACED ACTORS!

Krasinski was imo really mediocre for Steve Roger, he don't have the physical appearance, and for what I have seen of him, he is not specially a great actor.

you wont be blown away by the casting we weren't blown away by thor or GL casting

Yea, I know. :csad:

But that Deadline Hollywood article did mention that other actors have been invited to test, in addition to Chris Evans, but those names were not revealed. So you never know.

Marvel is loosening the purse strings a little so don't loose hope just yet! BTW fanboy reaction to potential casting DOES make an impact! Just ask RJD!The studio wanted no part of him till Favs showed how much support he recieved on the net. It's getting crunch time and Marvel knows it. You'll have your decision soon.:word:

You pretty much stated exactly how I feel. Almost word for word.

I kinda think Evans is out because if they really wanted Evans they would have signed him by now, wouldn't they? Same thing with Hedlund.

Them asking Tatum, Philippe and Lutz (apparently) means they really don't have an idea, and for the first time, I'm actually starting to worry about this production.

Tatum,Philippe and Lutz?......Gee where have I heard those names before?:word:

You may not have been. But I was damn near blown away when I heard about Reynolds as GL. And as for Thor, I though Hemsworth was... interesting. He did a damn good job in the five minutes he was in Star Trek.

But these guys... I mean, I liked Phillippe in Cruel Intentions, I though Evans' Human Torch was one of the very few bright spots of the two F4 movies and Vogel was okay in Cloverfield, but thats basically it.

I think that Phillipe will don't have the role for various reasons, he is too short, and also he is already too old (36), I think they have already said that they want a young actor (under 30) for the role.

I feel the same. I wasn't 100% fo JK either, but at the same time, he intrigued me. The biggest plus the guy had going for him was that I believed he had the chops to not get upstaged by RDJ. He had the right temperament. Evans is the one I'm behind the most at the moment, but I'm not super excited for him right now.

Still, at this point, I just want someone announced already.

I'm surprised that a choice I wasnt too fond of a while back has now become my preffered choice over most of the current front-runners... Ben McKenzie.

I could totally get excited about that one. To be honest, with all the CW nobodies who've been in the mix, I'm surprised his name hasn't come up, as both his shows have had larger audiences than CW shows ever get (since they were on broadcast networks; Southland has less now that it's on cable, but still), and he's a much stronger actor. Oh well. :csad:

This is pretty much how I feel. :o

Jesus, weird, I was just about to suggest McKenzie of Southland. He's been a thought for me before the wish list started.

He's 5'9, so that might be working against him, but come on... lesser of two evils: Short Cap or Channing Tatum? :hehe:

I first learned of Tatum's potential involvement earlier at work via the Captivate outlet in the elevator. I just stood there shaking my head, holding back expletives.

I missed my floor.

Haha is too late to start a new team...for a candidate that hasn't even been mentioned? :oldrazz:

If those hooligans on Facebook could get Betty White to host SNL, surely we can do something....

So true, we need to get on it. But let's leave Facebook out of it, as I prefer to avoid that like the plague. :cwink:

.... IMO Marvel and JJ have gone about casting the lead all wrong. Regardless of familiarity with the character, the name "Captain America" is naturally going to elicit a commanding presence that will place him atop the Avenger hierarchy with viewers. I mean c'mon, dude has the words "Captain" and "America" in his title. You can't have a baby-faced, weak-voiced, unimposing actor attempting to put a character like RDJ's Iron Man in-line. He's the yin to RDJ's yang, brings order to Iron Man's otherwise eccentric aspirations.

We all know we are going to get our "Avengers assemble" line and it's no wonder they haven't cast anyone yet (beyond contractual difficulties), there hasn't been one man who encompasses that very line ......nor could they compete with RDJ. In Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law did an admirable job. Do anyone of these cats come close to that? Not in my opinion they don't.

It's unfortunate, but it's what has become of RDJ's revival thru the Iron Man character. Importance should've been placed on getting the best actor they could for Cap and build the movie around him. All I can say is, if it ends up being any of these guys, Hugo Weaving has a lot of weight baring down on his shoulders.
