I didn't care for it either. Apparently subtlety was lost on C.S. Lewis. I don't mind the Christian allegory, but come on, you don't have to force feed it like the movie did. Less is more at times.

Also, I found the last battle to be a bit boring (sorry, but after The Two Towers I've come to expect more from epic battles). I mean, they talk about how strong this Witch's army is and how the Lion's army are such underdogs, but the battle is over in about five minutes and the Lion's army just kicks the Witch's ass.

I never really related to any of the children (they were all too bland), the movie seemed to drag. And yeah, the Santa Clause thing was too much for me too.

Exactly. I can perfectly picture an episode of MST3K out of that.

"So long kids! I'm off to sell Uzis in the inner city!"

Prince Caspian Promo Art
A hint of what's to come.
by Paul Davidson

US, January 19, 2007 - Disney's marketing campaign for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian hasn't begun yet, but two promotional images found their way online this week, suggesting that real posters and other material could be on their way to theatres soon.

One image shows artwork of a majestic castle with the film's logo superimposed, and comes from Disney's online annual report for 2006. No, the fortress is not Cair Paravel, the idyllic royal seat we saw in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; that location lies in ruins, consumed by centuries of intrusion by the surrounding forests and the elements in the time period the story takes place. More likely, it's the capital of wicked King Miraz, the usurper whom Caspian and the Pevensies will seek to overthrow.

The second image is a landscape-format poster for Prince Caspian that has appeared online at Jim Hill Media. It's attractive, but doesn't show us much we haven't seen before — just the logo, the verdant Narnian countryside, and a sword with billowing yellow fabric.

Stay tuned for more news while we await the spring, 2008 release of Prince Caspian!

I read the book, I didn't get into it all that much. Spoilers ahead....

I just didn't like the Final Battle how Sue won't come back and the others had a train accident and now they're dead in our world but alive in Narnia.

How could Sue just forget. The others didn't, I don't care if she got older, you don't forget something like that.

She shouldn't have been ashamed of it and not wanting to admit she remembered. I don't know, there were just some things that just didn't sit right with me.

When are the gonna start casting Caspian?
I'm definately interested to see who they get.

Yeah, I agree Morgoth. The Last Battle was a real let down for me.

For me, he really went to far to rip virtually the whole plot from Revelations. Really, while I understand it was written for children, I prefer more originality than to make it all go on somewhere else.

TBH though, I did enjoy the movie from a critical perspective (and compared to others, the kids weren't that bad). And for itself, it is quite good.

But compared to LOTR... well, why bother? We all know the outcome there.

C.S. Lewis (and Tokien) were trying to make a good book with symbolism towards the Bible... you know, Aslan being God, the Four kids being Christians Susan drifts away from it the three remain strong and the rest of Earth is out of the loop, it's supposed to rip off Revalations

The Chronicles of Narnia Update
Source: Infuze Magazine
February 2, 2007

Infuze Magazine talked to Walden Media's Bob Beltz about the status of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which will start principal photography this month.

Asked for an update and whether the script is sticking closely to the book, Beltz said, "It's pretty close. Andrew Adamson is gonna direct again. Most of the same crew is working on this one. Mark Johnson will produce again. A lot of the cast and crew will be the same. Now, I don't think that will the case for all seven. I don't think Andrew Adamson wants to spend the rest of his life on this one series. But the script... let me put it this way: All of the elements from the book are present. It's not as easy of a book to adapt as The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was simply because it has a little bit of a different structure and Andrew wanted to rearrange some of the elements for dramatic effect. But everything that is in the book will be in the film."

He also addressed the fact that the children have grown up from when they shot the first film. "We're actually using the same four kids and I know that three of them actually look almost the same as they did. Skandar [Keynes] who played Edmund has grown about seven inches and looks like a full blown adolescent now. In the Lewis story, there's only a year that has taken place between the first and second book and I think that will just get left a little open ended. The big challenge is going to be Edmund I think."

Beltz said the next book they will take on after "Prince Caspian" is "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."We're going to try and film the next two in a way that it won't have to be two and a half years between them. We'll be able to bring them out sequentially a year apart."

He explained a bit more. "The way I understand it is that it takes six months to do the live photography on 'Caspian' and then a full year of post-production with all of the effects and computer generated things that have to get done. In theory, what we'll do is as soon as they are done filming 'Caspian' and into post-production, then we'll have a new crew to do the filming part of 'Dawn Treader.' Then when that one goes into post-production, we're hoping to go into 'The Silver Chair,' which would be the next book into production."

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is scheduled for release by Disney on May 16, 2008.

does anyone else think they shoulda started the movies off with "the magicians nephew" i mean as of now they are going completely outta order...the lion the with and the wardrobe is book 2, prince caspian is book 4...im assuming they arent making 7 movies, so maybe just 3...but the 3rd would have to be the last battle i guess since its the last book. i mean they will make 7 harry potters, why not 7 Narnia's?

They are going by the publication order.

ahh that makes alot more sense...id still want them in order though

While I'm looking forward to this one, I don't see how they're going to make this as interesting as the first (seeing as how much of the book is backstory and more backstory). That said, it should be entertaining if it's the same director, writer and actors.

Can't wait for Dawn Treader, though.

Prince Caspian is Cast!
Source: Times Online
February 3, 2007

UK's Times Online has published an interesting article saying that Ben Barnes, who played Dakin in the National Theatre's "The History Boys," has landed the title role in Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Problem is, it seems the National Theatre is not too happy about it:

A spokesperson for the National Theatre said yesterday: "Ben Barnes has decided to leave The History Boys early, before his contract is finished. It is something we are taking very seriously. He has accepted an offer to be in a children's Disney film and we have had to fly Jamie King back at extremely short notice this week."

Jamie King is replacing Barnes in the production. Another source told the newspaper that Barnes has signed a three-picture deal with Disney for the "Narnia" franchise.

^I put it up there 2 minutes before you :whatever:
Go to his IMDB site for pics.

^For some reason, I can't link from IMDB.
Thanks PF
Wait... Isn't Caspian supposed to be 13???
Maybe it's another Ben Barnes, though he's pretty recent.

The cast and crew of The Chronicles of Narnia are back in New Zealand this week to begin filming the second instalment, Prince Caspian, next week.

Kiwi director Andrew Adamson and producer Mark Johnson sat down with local media this morning to discuss the film, the cast and why they chose to film in New Zealand.

ON FILMING IN NZ

Adamson: "The thing that New Zealand offers that a lot of places don't... there's not an area of Europe that hasn't been felled and regrown at some point, so finding an old growth forest is very difficult. In New Zealand, the whole west coast of the South Island is just ancient forests."

Johnson: "New Zealand crews are amongst the best in the world. That alone is a reason to come here. Eighty to 85 per cent of our crew on the last film was Kiwi-based. This time there's more. Our art department is almost exclusively Kiwi. There's so many reasons to come here but there's one or two major road blocks."

ON WHY NOT ALL THE FILM WILL BE SHOT IN NZ

Adamson: "Two reasons mainly: One is the lack of stages - we shot a lot of the [first] film in equestrian centres, in tin sheds, and I spent a long time re-looping dialogue or re-recording dialogue. It slows you down not having the facilities - not being able to rig lights easily, not having good sound, having motorcycles going past outside and rain on tin roofs. All those things slow you down.

"The other thing was the weather. We got caught with a lot of weather situations last time. It snowed outside of Christchurch on the 18th of December, which was unheard of. So this time I'm going to shoot in what is actually summer - February and March. Then we go into stage in Europe and then we come out for the European summer.

"I think New Zealand has a lot to offer in terms of location, in terms of ease of access to those locations - them being close to cities and so on - but the stage space is an issue and it's something we've all talked about for a long time. Particularly in Auckland. Auckland's a big city with a big infrastructure but we still don't have big stages.

"I think it would be great if it had Government support. On the other hand the Government is very supportive of the film industry here so I don't feel comfortable asking for anything more than that. I think there's certainly a lot of opportunity for private enterprise."

ON CASTING PRINCE CASPIAN AND KING MIRAZ

Adamson: "We have not yet cast King Miraz, we're still in discussions with someone on that. We have officially cast Prince Caspian finally after a very long search... He's a very talented young British actor named Ben Barnes.

"Ben is a very accomplished young man, he's been getting a lot of good reviews lately for a play that he has on the West End. He came to us very late in the game and he just blew us away. He's going to be a great addition to the cast. I think he'll really fit in well with the other kids."

ON BOOK VS. FILM

Adamson: "It's very close [to the book] in the same way that The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was. With that film what I really tried to do was imagine this story was real and CS Lewis had written a book for children about it but I was going to tell the real story so it had a bit more depth, a bit more action, a bit more grit and reality to it. I think that's true with this one as well."

ON DIRECTING FUTURE NARNIA FILMS

Adamson: "I don't think so. One of the challenges we have is we actually want to put three of these films out very close together, and in actual fact, I'll probably be finishing this one when we start the next one so it's unlikely that I'll be able to do both."

ON THE CHILDREN IN THE FILM

Adamson: "They're growing surprisingly fast. We just saw Georgie and Skandar yesterday and Skandar's grown probably about a foot since the last film."

Johnson: "We shoot the films very much in sequence because we can see the children getting older."

Adamson: "They've all grown up really well. They've gone back to a really normal life, which has been nice to see. They're excited about doing this again, they're treating it like another adventure. There's change in very positive ways in growing up but I'd like to say the movie hasn't changed who they are, which I'm really happy about. A lot of that's attributed to the parents. They've all got great parents."

ON THE TONE OF PRINCE CASPIAN

Adamson: "This film is probably a little darker than the last one, partly because the children are older, but partly because it's a different story. At the same time, the death of Aslan was a pretty dark scene and I don't think there's anything that's harsher or less PG than that."
