It was nowhere near as obvious an allegory in LWW, so I don't see why this would surprise you.

What?

I know it was obvious in LWW, and it did not surprise me that it was in Prince Caspian. When did I say I was?

It just brings down the overall quality of the movie when half the audience is groaning at the conversation between Aslan and Lucy.

Ah, my misunderstanding, I misread your post.

Though, if you've read the books and know the nature of the Narnia series, then you know that these movies will always have heavy Christian overtones, especially when it comes to Aslan.

Really, the movie toned it down a notch from how it was in the books.

I hate how people complain about the Christian messages. So what if it's really obvious? That's the whole point of the series. It's like complaining that you got too much action in an action movie. You know what you're getting yourself into.

Anyways, I saw this last friday and I had a good time. I've never read the books so I can't tell how it compared though from what I hear it was pretty close. I thought the story was good and the action amazing. The CGI animals and the costumes were a lot better blended this time. And one of my main gripes of the first one is that Narnia didn't feel like a magical land. It just felt like Earth with talking animals. This one had a lot grander feeling to it, like a different world. I thought Reepicheep was awesome and Barnes did well as Caspian. King Miraz wasn't as good a villain as the White Witch though. But I liked her brief appearance, very intense. Although I enjoyed it, some of the lines and Lucy's acting were painful to watch. And I wish there was more of Aslan.

It was pretty darn close to the books. There are always adaptations from book to screeen though.

Loved it!
10/10
I've thoroughly enjoyed every film I've seen this summer.

Finally saw this movie and I have to say I really loved it. A major step-up from the first (and I enjoyed that one too) movie in terms of story arc, CGI animals, costumes and landscape.

I am totally in love with Ben Barnes...my new hubby.

8/10!!!! Can't wait for more trips to Narnia!!

I like it a bit better than the first one, much mor exciting and darker, the villains are pretty generic and can't hold a candle to Tilda Swinton though.

Best movie of the year so far other than RAMBO and maybe Iron Man.

I loved how they brought Tilda Swinton back for that little part! From what I recall, it isn't like that in the book, but it was an awesome extra!

No, it wasn't like that in the book, but I liked it much more the way they did it in the movie as well. It added more tension and danger to the scene.

It's been so long since I've read the books. How did it happen in the book version?

i really enjoyed it a lot, thought it was a great movie and i look forward to all of the rest. it stands up as a typcial summer blockbuster as well as a movie with a christian meaning, whichever you are in it for, some of us get both :)

Well, it's been about four years, but from what I remember, Nickelbrick introduced the werewolf and the Hag to Caspian during a meeting, and they both begin a ritual to summon the White Witch, but they only begin a kind of ritual, they never actually bring up an image of the White Witch. Before they can get too far into it I think Pevensive children show up and kill the werewolf and hag in a fight. Somehow I remember the lights going out, and I can't remember if the werewolf and Hag did it to try and attack Caspian, but I know they ended up getting killed in the scuffle.

Really the movie wasn't too far off, but the White Witch never made an actual appearance like she did in the movie.

Is the movie better than the book? Like a LOT better? Because I just read the book and found it to be a complete waste of time. Caspian's backstory was pretty much just a Hamlet rip-off, and the Pevensie children aren't really given anything interesting to do. Miraz doesn't hold a candle to the White Witch; he's not half as powerful and doesn't even feel like a legitimate threat. Caspian himself is a pretty weak character; all of these Narnians rally behind him but he doesn't appear to have any leadership abilities (but I suppose that's how politics usually work... it doesn't really matter what you actually can do so much as what you're in a position to do). And the "Jesus healing the sick" scene with Aslan at the end just feels like Lewis threw it in at the last minute because he suddenly thought to himself "Oh sh**! I almost forgot; I need to make this a religious allegory!"

Really, this book felt like it nothing more to me than a generic sequel and so it's not really a surprise that the story isn't as well-revered as The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

:whatever:

Narnia isn't holding up very well...only 23 mil this weekend.

IMO, for the next movie, they need to go back to what helped make the first film successful and release it during the Winter/Christmas season...

Ala the LOTR approach.

Agreed bad move on Disneys part for taking it out of the Christmas slot. I think Disney deciced to move it due to the failure of other Kid fantasy flicks like Eargon and Golden Compass during that time, and the fact that this movie isn't set during the winter like the first.

i agree with lost son, i think these films could grab a stronger audience during the christmas season

I really liked the movie, but I liked the first one much more. The first Narnia blew me away! Especially when Aslan came back to life.....awesome! Oh, and LOVED the score.

But something was missing for me in Prince Caspian. I expected new music, but it was basically the same most of the time. However, I hope they make another movie. Like these series a lot, much better than Potter.

I agree about the villains, but Aslan was hardly just "thrown in at the end," his appearance was building throughout the story, and I don't think anything he did felt forced at all.

I found the kids more interesting than they were in the first film.

Prince Caspian's Release Date Was a Mistake?
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
May 29, 2008

Disney CEO Robert Iger said Wednesday that The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian isn't performing as well as expected because its May 16 release date was too competitive, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Disney originally had "Prince Caspian" set for the 2007 Christmas season but made the change in deference to The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, a fantasy vying for the same audience.

Disney might also have been taking into account the feelings of Walden Media, its production partner on "Narnia" and the production company behind "Water Horse," which was distributed by Sony.

Iger, speaking at the Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference in New York, said "Prince Caspian" is a better movie than the first installment but because it was released between a couple of the year's biggest hits (Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), audiences are overlooking it.

Right now, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is still scheduled for May 7, 2010, only a week after Iron Man 2. It'll be interesting to see if they keep the spot.

HUGE mistake. I am very glad though that Disney corp is standing up and admitting their error. Something we didn't see Fox do with Fantastic Four last summer, releasing Die Hard from their own studio only a week and a half later.

Disney made an error here, but give them credit that they are willing to take the financial hit and continue with making these films going forward. It's nice to see a company that is concerned just as much with the artistry of their films as much as the profits rolling in the door.

Yeah cause the waterhorse just made so much money. Always a excuse for something.:woot:

I don't think I will ever understand why Hollywood continues to release so many big movies in such short period. I mean, you have four months, January to April, where there is more or less nothing when it comes to blockbusters. And then everything comes at once in the summer months. It's kinda hard to believe today that summer once was a graveyard for movies, before Jaws and Star Wars in the 70's. Personally I would like to see any movie company surprise us with releasing a blockbuster-movie in any other time than summer or the holiday season.

Cause most couples figure thier dead months and they release not highly expected movies in hoping they make more. But yeah they should. instead of craming like 10 movies in 2 months or so.
