Comics The Clone Saga is back

I'll be totally honest here.

You know i've been reading my friend's issues. He doesn't really "read" his own issues still but "collects"...he is not a fan of this alternate direction either.

I want to like this. This is my favorite character. Every fiber in me wants to.

So....I actually BOUGHT the NWTD TPB.

Haven't stated that to anyone on here. I broke down. Missed spidey stuff.

However.....i can't get into it. It is frustrating. It just feels like a watered down, bad photo copy of Pete. And as was stated above...winks to the "Deal" and the new world. It all honestly feels like a WHAT IF story still.....and i bought some of those, so i am not against What If's...but this just doesn't "feel" right at all...its hokey even, and hokey can be good...but this is bad hokey.

It's nostalgically sad...i am just thinking here....i never would have imagined a time i'd not read Spidey after buying every issue of Web, Peter PArker, Amazing, MArvel Tales (ha! reprints of what i have but still bought!) Original MArvel Team-Up...Spider Ham....

A long great run of my ENTIRE LIFE.......high and lo's....and it is a shock to my system to not have a spidey anymore that i can relate to.

But to really think about it, for me, is odd that me AND my friend...do like...or don't know, or relate to this spidey. I could have never imagined US not liking Pete and the gang...that it'd be written so bad, or in a way, we'd not like....so strongly.

Maybe it is because we are married. Although i like single heroes...but it is not the marriage thing, as much as it is the how it was handled with a total lack of good writing...forced...tacky...spidey is a noob now, with no recollection to his own past and experiences, not only with MJ....but he seems out of place and uncomfortable with his own body, powers, and past battles. Like an acne faced hormonal confused teen in a man's body.

I dunno. :csad:  ...it's just off.............to me.

It's too bad you can't get over the deal with Mephisto... it has been good, and it might be good to you as well if you weren't as biased...

just sayin'...

That's like saying we should totally ignore the sun and walk around in daylight. The whole BND universe is rooted in the deal with Mephisto, and without it, the universe can't exist.

Ignoring it isn't an option. Accepting it is....and that's something I find hard to do in a book about a hero who has some motto about "responsibility".

just sayin'... ;)

American Son is the first story which I'll say is pretty decent. The others, not so much.

Hey, you gave it a whirl. That's all any of us who like it could ask for (well, we could ask to try again, but let's not be pushy...)

But that's not true... the only thing that occured as a result of the Mephisto deal is that the marriage never happened.

Harry would/could have come back with the same explanations without BND...

Peter making his identity secret again is still needed to be explained, though we know it wasn't because of Mephisto, so this too could/would have occured without BND...

Aunt May's house was rebuilt regardless of BND...

The reason that people have a tendancy to "blame" BND is that because all these changes occured "off-panel" during a 3 + month gap between the end of OMD and BND, stuff that's being explained.

But because we were all hit with these changes at the same time, it might have been a tad much for some people.

just sayin'

:yay:

Bat I think some of your questions are answered already. With the marriage basically not happening Spidey was never an Avenger, and was never on the side of Iron Man, and they would have never lived in the Avenger towers. Now if this has been explained that he has, than I wasn't paying attention.

I think since the marriage didn't happen some other things never came into frutation, cause and effect kind of logic I reckon

It has, none of that changed

Wow.... this isn't a dream. First X-Men/Spidey#3 starring Ben Reilly came out. Then we found out the Spider-Man annual will reintroduce Ben followed by an arc titled "Who is Ben Reilly?" .... and now THIS! Marvel is really going clone crazy again for some reason. As a Reilly fan, I guess I'm happy, but shocked that all of this was given the green-light. I really, really, really never thought we would ever see Ben again. Or if we did it would be a lot more low-key. This is all a lot to absorb. On the subject of the mini though, I've never been a fan of retelling old stories (even if they're bad). I hope this new clone saga isn't canon (but it probably will be). Oh well. I'll take what I can get. Amazing. Ben Reilly is back.

I read the X-Men/Spider-Man story, which was plain awesomeness. Now what is this madness that I hear you say about an annual reintroducing Ben Reilly? Are you smoking crack or am I? Either way that is intense.

And you know what else is intense? This freakin' miniseries. Marvel just brushed off Howard Mackie. NICE!!! Hahaha! I am having such intense flashbacks to the Howard Mackie/Tom Lyle run on the Peter Parker: Spider-Man book. But this is great news and I will be first in line for this book. Maybe I will buy multiple copies or just buy them all up and make all of you buy them for hundreds of dollars on E-Bay. Yes...

It is a masterful plan...

I wonder if MJ and Peter will be married?

I hope this leads to ben Reilly book, even if it's in a different continuity

We need the c.W.o back

And aunt may lived against her will and she forgot telling pete she wanted to die and was at piece and no one remembers the unmasking and MJ was never pregnant and all mentions of the kid or marriage never happened and and people's minds have been altered so they can't make basic logical conclusions on what they know and harry's alive (you can say it would have happened anyways but joe specifically said in an interview that harry now being alive was part of the price for making the deal). Oh and his new powers are gone along with most of his intelligence and competance.

Now sure you can say this is bias, but the robot devil finds that ironic considering you too are biased talking about the biasednessity of others.

On topic, I'll be reading this (dispite the flashdance costume). I like clones and most of the clone stuff with the exception of Pete not really being Pete, as this is just the story of the clone without any of the horse**** they tried to shove down our throats it'll probably be quite good.

Ben Reilly's back. I loved his character during the Clone Saga, but I didn't really like him as Spider-Man. Probably because the lack of his supporting characters. But next to Spider-Man he will great again.

I can see how the Clone Saga can have fans. I read Sensational and on. It was a fresh kind of Spider-man. Yes, it did lack supporting characters, I suppose Ben could of gone the camera-jocky thing too and worked for Jonah.

I don't feel that the Ben's run lacked supporting characters at all. ?

Jessica Carridine and all of the folks from The Daily Grind come to mind, for starters. :)

I miss those folks.

No one has said that Ben is "coming back." He will most likely be shown in flashbacks, not returning to the modern Spider-World.

I too have tried a few copies of BND. Some have been good, yes. Nothing can be bad all the time but it still isnt the Spidey I know. It just doesnt feel right.

So is this like Spider-man's answer to X-men Forever?

I think this is Marvel's retcon of the clone saga. I'm sure that key events will be featured and it will be a way to better help readers follow exactly what happened and close up any plot holes.

I think the biggest question I was left asking was regarding the skeleton in the smoke stack.

Someone died the day the two spider-men fought... and to this day I still don't like the way they explained it

"another clone"

I remember reading issue 409 of ASM and thinking that the original spider-man had actually died and these were all copies.

I mean... even the original clone arc with the jackel ended with spider-man just saying

"Only the real spider-man could have survived that" ftw?

This could be a good thing. I'm sure someone has dug through the archives and figured a way to connect the dots.

The skeleton was explained in the Osborn Journal. Norman had the Jackal put it in there and be discovered to bring Peter and MJ back to New York from Portland. Never explain in normal continuity, but at least it wasn't left totally loose.
