The Create-A-Hero RPG Season III OOC Thread - Part 1

Damn you Trusty, lucky bastard, I wanted to go

Check out something myself and a few other Hype RPG Members have been putting together: The Off-Panel Podcast!

If you don't, I'll make sure your currently applied for character suddenly becomes open and available. :awesome:

Create a Hero RPG SEASON III Application

Character you have created: Henry Patton (Formerly Head Warden of Tartarus Prison Facility)
Alias: Sureshot

Speech Color (Actually say what you're using, don't go "Like this", or what not): Since his role's changed I might give him a less generic text type. I've gone with Georgia, Dark Red just to see how it looks.

Character Alignment: Villain, albeit not completely unsympathetic given his circumstances.

Identity: On S.T.R.I.K.E records, not completely unknown but not exactly public knowledge either.

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Dominant motivation is vengeance against Vigilante and anyone who would ally themselves with him for making his life a living hell. He believes that the powers metahumans wield are too strong to be left to nature - humanity should decide who can have this power. He is extremely authoritarian, due to his experiences as Head Warden of Tartarus Prison Facility. In combat he will take a lot of risks with his own life because he sees less value in it due to the agony and fear which takes up so much of his life.

Uniform/costume: After the procedure S.T.R.I.K.E outfitted him in a new colourful uniform, as they do to differentiate their human agents from the metas under their employ. He now wears a red costume with a bright green set of crosshairs emblem on his chest and on each shoulder (upper sleeve). He also wears a pair of protective goggles which make things brighter in the dark and dimmer in daylight as the procedure which gave him enhanced vision makes his eyes overly sensitive to light.

Finally, trusty, I'm throwing you a bone... Heh

Origin Info/Details: Henry Patton was once the S.T.R.I.K.E officer in charge of Tartarus prison facility, he successfully kept one of S.T.R.I.K.E's biggest secrets (a Doomsday device taking the form of a young metahuman girl of unparalleled power) under wraps from metahuman personnel who likely would not have approved of their methods... That is until the Guardian Vigilante stumbled upon the girl whilst running a virtually blind reconnaissance mission scrounging for any and all information he could dig up on the shadowy agency. Patton did what he could to protect this secret, including sending out all metahuman personnel to try to bring down the black-garbed Guardian, only for the Vigilante to slip away with the girl after temporarily incapacitating his metahuman pursuers. In a final roll of the dice, Patton went himself (along with another officer by the name of Michael Kowalski) to try and prevent the Vigilante from escaping with the security facility's best kept secret.

It was at this point that the child began to explore the extent of her powers. The vengeful girl used her powers to first explode the head of Kowalski, and then Patton's own head.

After a debate between the Vigilante and the child as to whether it would be better to just lay waste to the entire world and start anew, Project Omega decided that not only did she have no right to destroy the life that already existed on Earth but she also could not risk having anything she would create come to destroy the existing life either. With this announcement she left Earth and returned Kowalski and Patton to life.

Unfortunately, Patton maintained a full memory of these experiences and has been haunted nightly by horrific dreams which always end in the same fashion... re-living the explosion of his own head.

Out of desperation and vengeance Henry Patton signed up for a procedure, knowing full well the potential side effects from his time with S.T.R.I.K.E. Henry Patton sought to do that which an entire regiment of metahumans could not. He sought the power to take his vengeance on the one who was responsible for giving him this hellish life. Unlike the metas who failed him before, Henry Patton wanted the power to not miss.

All previous attempts to bestow met powers on pre-existing humans have been... less than satisfactory. With a 100% mortality rate within as little as three months, but perhaps S.T.R.I.K.E has learned from these past mistakes... or now have someone on staff who can solve the puzzle...

Hero Type (Select one):
Normal (Non-powered characters)
Brick/Muscle
Elemental (Select: Water, Wind, Earth)
Energy (What kind of energy? Ex. Electricity, Fire)
Psychic
Acrobat
Speedster
Gray Matter (Super-smart characters)
Shape Shifter
Mystic (Spell casters/magic users)
Supernatural (Divine agents, Vampires, werewolves, Cosmic deities)

Doesn't really appear here in these options. He's a superhuman marksman.

Power Level (Select one below):

1. Street Level (Ex. Punisher, Daredevil) Around your Bullseye or Deadshot level.

Powers (Be Specific): Enhanced vision, enhanced hand-eye co-ordination, ambidextrous, enhanced dexterity. Enhanced general physical attributes due to procedure.

Attributes (Select one at each category):

Strength Level: 1 ton.

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Enhanced reaction time, normal speed. Enhanced throwing/kicking speed/power. Unmeasured.

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Twice normal human capacity.

Agility: Twice normal human level.

Intelligence: Above average. Less than genius. Closer to "average" than "genius".

Fighting Skill: Trained.

Resources: Large as a S.T.R.I.K.E agent/operative. Average own resources.

Weaknesses (If your stats chosen are deemed powerful enough by a Game Master with no weakness, the character will fall under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters. Even with a weakness, a Game Master may rule it as a Level 3 or 4 character): Diminishing psyche, becoming increasingly obsessive.

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): Recent events have seen him isolate himself from most of his support network, family and friends. These days his supporting class all receive a S.T.R.I.K.E pay check...

List a few reasons why you've created that character: Every game needs a nutcase street level villain. Here's one with a Government pass. It's been waiting to happen and I think it looks like I finally have the time to do it credit.

What can you bring to the RPG?: You should have an idea by now...

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards?:

A S.T.R.I.K.E Facility – Whereabouts Disclosed

A man leans over a table, his appearance could only be described as derelict. A beard hides the face of a man who is looking to hide from something himself. The lights brighten, more questions will come. ‘Why is this so drawn out?’ he finds himself asking, ‘what could be so complicated’. His scraggy, neglected face raises up and looks through the reflection of himself in the one-way glass. His eyes squint to cut down on the glare of the bright interrogation lights. The speakers crackle and the booming synthetic sounding voice cuts through the silence.

“So, again we’re here!”

The booming sound of the speakers emphasises the pauses, the resounding echo never quite allowing complete silence to reign.

“Are we to take it that you’re still having the dreams!”

The raggedy man nodded, his head cowed.

“Speak! …Are you still having the dreams as normal!”

“YES!” The raggedy man bellowed. “But there’s nothing normal about them!”

“Can the attitude, or we’ll cut you loose!”

The raggedy man submissively dripped over to the far corner and sat against the wall. He pounded his own head twice and then repeated his answer in a far more reserved tone.

“Yes.”

“So they’re always the same dream?!”

“No… no… But they all end the same. I… I can’t take them anymore. Please…”

“We need an example! What was last night’s!”

“I’ve… I’ve already told you people this…”

The raggedy man started to rock back and forth in his corner.

“Then you should have your story down by now! You know how things work here!”

“Last night’s would have been a good one… It had that Nicola Parks, you know… the actress. We were in this big hall, like out of one of her period pieces. I was in a suit, looking much better than I do now. And we were dancing. About half way through I realised that I was dreaming and got scared. I’ve started to anticipate it now, see? It took me a while to figure out I was dreaming and what that would mean. So I grabbed Nicola by the hand and told her we had to run. Then I could feel it starting to happen again… the same with the other dreams. This high pitched sound, like a ringing started to fill everything; it sounded distant at first, but then as always started to get more intense. Nicola tripped, I stepped on her hand and just kept running. I knew what was coming and I … I just couldn’t take it one more time...”

Behind glass, a room full of men look on. Observing the raggedy man’s every movement, the inflection of his voice. No detail goes unnoticed before their trained eyes and ears.

“… and I ran, and ran. I knew it was useless. I’ve run in the dreams before, it makes no difference. But I have to try, I can’t let it happen again.”

“Let’s talk through the endings now! You say they always end the same, but is there ever any slight difference that you can recall!”

The raggedy man started panting, perspiration beading on his brow and running down his face where their tributaries would join the raging torrents that his tearful eyes were now creating.

“First the sound starts to get more intense, and then… then I could start to feel a sort of heat, like there was a fire blazing behind my own eyes. Then light, I can’t keep my eyes open anymore, the pain is blinding, then a light brightens I can see it as red first, because even my eyelids can’t dim it. My eyes fall open and it’s all I can see. My own flesh…”

The raggedy man is hyperventilating now, his beard filled with a combination of tears and snot.

“And it always happens the same… I can feel everything… I can see my own nose coming from my face. I can see things that no-one could ever see. No-one SHOULD ever see… Oh God…”

The speakers crackle again and a sound that seems like people shuffling behind the microphone is overheard.

“And you know that we still haven’t perfected the procedure! We’d like to believe we’ve made inroads, but there’s no guarantee that..! Survival rate is by no means guaranteed!”

“Yes. I know.” The raggedy man sniffled and tried to pull himself back together.

“I can’t keep living like this… Whatever happens from here I’m fine with.”

“And are we reading your request for preferred genetic manipulation correctly?! You want..!?”

“Yes. I saw him at work. He cut through a legion of metahumans… made every one of them miss. I want… No… I NEED to be someone who doesn’t miss.”

Behind the glass a man in a black suit gave a smile. He hands a clipboard to a man in a white lab-coat. The clipboard contains the raggedy man’s details in full - the request of “Enhanced hand-eye co-ordination, enhanced sight and enhanced dexterity” circled in red pen with a question mark next to it, but ultimately agreed to with a destiny controlling “APPROVED” rubber stamp.

“Henry Patton! We believe that qualifies as informed medical consent! We’ll be starting the procedure immediately!”

and I'll be getting a Piston post up soon, most likely tomorrow. Planned on doing one tonight but got caught up with some other stuff

Yes, I'm 5 days behind, trying to catch up time with SureShot.

I am hereby dropping R.O.C. He had an ugly introduction and apparently no where to go and became no fun to write with due to complications. You MIGHT see a replacement character but he will be tied to my were-vamp character who I've got plenty of muse for.

It's a shame because we tried to assist you in various ways but you seem to choose to not accept the basic concept of what is being done: S.T.R.I.K.E. is as big an agency as it is and outside of The Guardians, no one sees that they are corrupt. Which is what this arc is all about: revealing S.T.R.I.K.E.'s true colors only so far only the superheroes have seen it. It's all about them being corrupt and having the muscle and connections to still be above it all.

Hence how people like the LHPD and such would be acting like nothing is wrong.

I think the problem here is stemming from a misguided idea of the chain of command.

Certainly more than just the Guardians KNOW that S.T.R.I.K.E. is up to no good. The problem comes from the fact that the agency is government-sanctioned (possibly as an extension of the department of homeland security?).

S.T.R.I.K.E. may or may not have gone through proper channels to make Lost Haven their testing grounds for Meta-Control. That's a good question for someone who is deeper involved in STRIKE than I am, but like it or not, the LHPD is a lot farther down on the chain of command, and wouldn't be in a position to do much about it. Acting out against S.T.R.I.K.E. could be viewed as a crime.

It's like this: The Admiral may be an *******. Everyone may know he's an *******. But there's not much a recruit can do about it. They're too far down on the pecking order to have that much clout.

Just a thought, here.

yeah, prett much.

I would argue that it boils down to different POVs. In reality, no Federal agency would dare come into a town uninvited with the possible exception of the CIA but even then we hardly know it. Any feasible police department would see them coming in and overstepping boundaries and be upset about even if they can't do too much about it. Why would S.T.R.I.K.E. come into Lost Haven unless asked by the mayor or LHPD? If given no good reason, then expect suspension even if it is underneath the top soil. Some would just be more open to sharing that mistrust.

S.T.R.I.K.E. is not just now suddenly moving in on stuff going on in Lost Haven. They have always been in Lost Haven. They have always been stationed in Lost Haven.

It would be easier if you just accept what has been told. None of us felt we should have to explain everything in huge detail and keep revealing stuff piece by piece. Like just now in this post I make mention that S.T.R.I.K.E. has ALWAYS had a presence in Lost Haven. If I tell you how it is, that is how it is. Nothing hard to grasp.

NiteMare Shape is the GM. Myself and Erin are the AGMs. So you have been fed information by the top sources for this current arc and the game itself. Yet you keep questioning what we say. If I said the sky was green, then guess what...in this fictional game in this fictional world the sky would be green.

I honestly don't see what else can be said to make you understand what is going on in the arc. I'm simply re-phrasing the same spiel I have since the first time. It is getting rather annoying at this point.

EDIT: You are forgetting the fact that plain and simple the director of S.T.R.I.K.E. has been authorized and allowed to do what he is doing by the government. The thing is no one realizes his true agendas and that he and S.T.R.I.K.E. have been behind several of the attacks and such. What is so damn hard to grasp about this concept? It's the simple concept of a meta-witch hunt. The Red Scare. The Japanese after Pearl Harbor. PICK ONE! It's a simple concept it is stemming from!

Since I don't understand the logic of the major arc, I'll just stay out of ANY arc that is planned and do my own thing.

Seriously. How old are you? It is the director of S.T.R.I.K.E. having his own witch hunt. We are TELLING you, that, guess what, he has the strings and the ability to manipulate the system the way he is. NO HOW OR WHY OR ANY FURTHER STUFF IS NEEDED TO BE KNOWN.

What hard logic is there for you to grasp?

Even if in reality a government agency wouldn't dare move in on jurisdiction, this is a game. This is what has been set up for the game. So it's a little contrived, so what? Is this particular point REALLY where you're going to draw the line on willing suspension of disbelief? Flying half-aliens, dueling archangels and pinup girls that never age are really more believable than the government abusing its power? What a wonderful world that must be.

It would be one thing if you were coming into the game at its conception, but this world had already been established when you join, and there's an expectation that players looking to participate in an arc will think of ways for their characters to fit and function neatly within that world. Expecting to come in mid-season and change a plot point that serves as a driving function for the action just because it's unrealistic or you're not a tremendous fan of it is, pardon the irony, a little unrealistic.

Erin pretty much said what I was going to say, so I'll leave it at that.

But enough is enough, we're moving along now.

It is what it is, and this is now a dead issue. If you have any other questions or concerns, you can direct them to me via PM.

We're not going to devolve into a fight about semantics, which is what this is fast becoming.

As I said before and Erin did mention, I tried to plug in my character in the middle of something that I apparently had no business sticking my nose into. I seriously hoped to get involved in the major arc but was sadly mistaken. Do what you choose with any and all of my posts. I've saved the ones I have an interest in. At least I've been able to semi develop one character with the hope that someone was at least reading her. I do thank you all for that so enjoy whatever concrete plan you all have.

Just throwing this out there - I'll be leaving on Thursday and be out of town until Sunday, visiting relatives and celebrating the most wonderful of all holidays. Yes, it is that time of year again when we celebrate the Pilgrim's journey to the New World, their cunning use of flags, overblown sense of entitlement and, of course, the fact that they invented the turkey.

God bless you Pilgrims, you magnificent bastards.

Seriously though, this is my favorite holiday ever. Hope you guys all have a good one. Even Hound, who is deprived of the Festival of Gluttony, living on the other side of the world.

Same to you Erin. And I'll just let you guys know that I'll be out of town from tomorrow to Thursday night. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

I want to apologize for being a pain in the butt, putting it kindly, but I'll still stand by my decision of pulling the character. I guess it hurt when I was told that I couldn't do something with my character which I thought was logical. I'll be taking some time off from the thread in general.

There ARE easy workarounds that would achieve most of what you seem to be looking for...

You could, for example, say that R.O.C has seemed to uncover this conspiracy and thus wants to interact with the Guardians and compare notes... Having him go there as a representative of the LHPD and claiming that the police force is behind them and hates S.T.R.I.K.E (which lies in direct contradiction of what came before) was always going to be taboo.

Hey guys, I just got back in. Though...I may not be posting immediately due to the uber flu I caught...

Gotta love when it drops from the high 60's to the low 20's overnight....

I'm going to try to get some stuff up today, but I'm still unpacking after a long work week.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, all of you people who live in a country where you don't have to spend every day being thankful you live in the best place on earth... One day a year should cover you when you have to live over there... :oldrazz:
