The Curious Case of Spider-Man & Hulk Rights (Or Keep Hope Alive That the Rights Will Revert)

I know I'm in a minority here, but I'm not all that jazzed about seeing Beta Ray Bill. First off, I think it's a lame name. Secondly, it's visually very bizarre. Don't get me wrong, I like bizarre....it's just that....

So, to Beta Ray Bill, I say neigh...

1.

I LOVE BIll... But kinda agree here. No real desirte to see him in the MCU right now, especially since I'm not satisfied with how they've done Thor for the most part since TDW, a few moments of awesomeness here or there notwithstanding.

2.

Don't... Don't encourage them. Please... I'm begging you.

I would be in for a movie based on Jessica Drew.

As long as they don't drastically alter her origin. I like that she was brainwashed by Hydra and was morally ambiguous at first. I also like the darker, somewhat macabre stories of her early run. She would fit into the horror side of things that the MCU are starting to bring out. But whether she would cross into the MCU is another matter.

But her early run had her working quite apart from any other heroes in the Marvel universe.

And Spider-Woman is a role that I would see Emily Blunt suitable for, far more than Sue Storm. She would also hearken back to the character's British origins and the idea that she originally wore a wig and dyed her hair black.

I think she could pull off just about anything with flying colors, but definitely agree with you about Jessica.

I don't understand the Kraven love at all... I don't ever need to see him in an MCU movie...
His only good story was his death...

:csad:

Wasn't she going to direct some other comic book property at some point? Was it Wonder Woman?

When searching info on Michelle MacLaren be specific in your Googling folks.

I'd be wary with the Illuminerdi. They just started posting a bunch of "exlusive" scoops pretty much weekly about the MCU earlier this year and so far not a single one has been confirmed or even supported by more credible sources. They seem like they're just farming clicks atm.

Unless Marvel are involved in this as much as Spider-Man, then I don't see Spider-Woman having her Hydra background and origin. I don't know if they'd also make her a person out of time like Captain America, as she was placed in suspended animation for decades since the early part of the 20th century.

I expect they'll probably simplify her origin and make it more like this:

I can hope they'll just go with something different altogether from the comics.

Jess is a cool character but for real, the origin is a huge mess of retcons and overall silliness.

Do I think the ducks are in enough of a row at Sony for them to realize that?

Not really.

Just simplify the superspy possible double agent angle and forget the High Evolutionary nonsense. Say she got her powers from a Hydra experiment trying to replicate Spider-man's powers that wasn't 100% succesful to explain the power differences. Job done.

Depends which bit of the High Evolutionary you mean. If you're talking about the very first origin which suggested that she was an evolved spider, then yes, by all means, forget that. Stan Lee even wanted them to get rid of that because he thought it was icky.

But there is the modified origin that she was simply ill from radiation poisoning and her father injected her with some kind of spider serum (similar to the cartoon, which is all they took from the comics) which gave Jessica her powers. Then the High Evolutionary was only indirectly involved afterwards, maybe in speeding up the process but he could easily be dispensed with, but they can keep the bit about how her father injected her or stuck her in that stasis chamber. Then when she woke up she was a Hydra operative who was sent to kill Nick Fury.

They don't need to say that Hydra were trying to replicate Spider-Man's powers, otherwise doesn't that make her similar to a Spider-Man clone which you said you wanted to avoid? And why would Hydra be trying to replicate Spider-Man of all people when there are all these other heroes out there, and even possible mutants on the horizon?
