The Curious Case of Spider-Man & Hulk Rights (Or Keep Hope Alive That the Rights Will Revert)

Doesn’t sound like they really know what to do with Hulk anymore other than to use him to prop up She-Hulk.

Well, if they'd just go to The Defenders threads, they might figure something out. :cwink:
I’m sure half of them are there right now. Good times ahead :O

From what I’ve seen (a small sample size), people prefer a more traditional Hulk. It was a nice change of pace but I want classic Hulk back.

I want that savage 08 hulk back. He was scary and seemed way brutal then avengers hulk. I know technically they are the same but it doesn’t feel that way to me

It feels like it's not part of the MCU but a pre-MCU film made by another studio. I'd rather he looked like Hulk from The Avengers where his skin didn't seem so thin covering his muscles. I prefer him with a bit of heft and bulk, and I prefer the brutish look of Avengers Hulk over either Norton's Hulk or Professor Hulk.

He kind of looked like Sal Buscema‘s Hulk in Age of Ultron. Everything else in that film regarding Hulk was a misfire, but I did like his more Ape-like look.

That right there.... is why Sony will always lose and probably lose the rights. They never learn and think they know better. How anyone can defend there actions is baffling lol.

let’s hire the writer from arguably the worst Spider-Man movie ever to come out back. Great idea. Wonder if he’ll be writing the aunt may spy movie

Tom Holland is reprising the role of Spider-Man in the Avengers campus ride. Some people are taking this as confirmation they have plans beyond the current 2 movie deal.

I really hope so. He's far and away the most beloved Spider-man to date so making sure the gravy train keeps rolling for as many years as possible is just good business.

Once he's done pass it on to Miles Morales and kick said gravy train into over-drive.

There is no good (artistic) reason not to continue to use Holland where they can.

I mean, or they could just be using Holland since he's the current Spider-Man, but whose to say whether theme parks have any bearing whatsoever on the film rights themselves? Disney has licensed other studio properties before, right? Could be related, but easily could not be as well.

True, but the way I see it they could have easily paid some no-name voice actor a fraction of what Holland costs for the same outcome. No one should take this as a rock-solid indicator that he's locked in for the next decade, but it's nice to see at the moment.

Exactly. It doesn’t confirm anything, but it’s just another small sign in the right direction.

Interesting. Though a rumor per Charles Murphy, who is very hit and miss and was the guy who famously said back in January that Hawkeye's production was postponed indefinitely...which it wasn't.

I love elements of the norton Hulk, the main issues for me were the obvious subpar CGI and the inconsistency in his design throughout the movie, he would look completely different from one scene to the next. My ideal Hulk would be body type and CG of Avengers Hulk but the face of Norton Hulk, as he looks in the factory scene of TIH which was outright fierce.

Just saw that Sony delayed Morbius to next March and Venom 2 has been put on hold. I thought that Sony had to release a movie every 2 years with Venom 2 now on hold indefinitely does anyone know where that leaves the rights? Does venom 2 have to release by a certain time frame or they lose the rights? As I understand the Sony/Disney deal Sony still had to make a movie every 2 years utilizing the spider-man IP along side the MCU Spider-Man movies. Thats why they were doing these spin-offs. So this could leave Sony in a somewhat awkward position. If they cant get Venom 2 out by a certain date.

I don't think the virus is going to care about film rights. That and those rights probably aren't the top priority for Sony and Disney when they and other studios are busy trying to figure out when, if at all, they can return to normalcy. As much as people maintain their wishful thinking that Sony loses the rights, that's probably not a factor when dealing with a pandemic like this that forces everyone to re-evaluate things.

Sony would not have moved them if they weren't going to retain the rights. The rights ain't going anywhere.

I have no idea what the current rights situation is (and as far as I can tell neither does anyone else on the internet, really), but even if you believe the 2 year thing March 2021 is still less than 2 years out from July 2019 (when Sony released Spider-man Far From Home).

I hope this will make them lose the rights but I don’t think it will

I don't think it will either. I'm no legal expert, but I believe there may also be specific clauses for cases where it is impossible to fulfill a contract due to overwhelming force and stuff like that. So if a pandemic is a natural event that's outside of Sony's reasonable control and the government has made certain things illegal that would be necessary to fulfill the contract ( you can't go out and come together with cast and crew to actually make the movie while the place is in lockdown), that might make the contract unenforceable, maybe?
