That is not how I pictured Langdon at all when reading these books. I had this vision in my head and it looked nothing close to that. He is a great actor, no doubt, but I still don't buy into him as Langdon.

Yeah, I'm still saying Liam Neeson but Tom's great, I'm sure when I see the film I'll be glad he is Langdon.

Yup! Audrey Tautou's cuteness is off the radar; at first I wasn't too sold about her as Sophie, but I warmed up pretty quickly!

Another set report from Comingsoon.net, with another picture!

I went to visit the Louvre on July 1st knowing I might come across some crew and stuff from the movie.

Around 9pm (I was still in the museum) some security groups (blue coats) surrounded the Pyramid area (about 30 men). I heard museum guards saying the movie will shoot around 10pm. (the museum closes at 9:45).

The blue guards were apparently there to prevent people which exited the museum going in the park in front of the pyramid.

I went on purpose where the blue coats were and I got exited by the road.

There I saw big lights being installed. 2 HUGE lights (which were installed 30 or 40 feet in the air) clearly lighting up Rue de Rivoli and one of the entries of the museum. (the one I exited the Louvre from).

I went to get diner in some Rue de Rivoli restaurants and from there I could see some of what was happening. It was around 9h45 - 10.

The crew blocked Rue de Rivoli every 15 minutes or saw for 5 minutes to shoot what they had to shoot.

-The Smart car entering the Louvre-

I was able to see the Smart car with all the equipment on it entering in the louvre. A camera on a "louma" was fixed on rivoli's sideways.

Of course when I left the restaurant I took Rue de Rivoli but, like it has already been said, the security system is huge. The crew told us to keep going and every person got ejected from rivoli's sidewalk. From there we couldn't see much so I left at about 11:40pm.

Later, we were sent a picture of the Smart car that was driven by Tautou, who plays Sophie Neveu, taken by 'potter2004'. She's apparently having an animated conversation with Tom Hanks (Robert Langdon).

does anyone have a synopsis of what the book actually is? All i've gathered from you guys' post is that some scientists research some rumors that jesus and mary magdalene had a baby in secret and that their are clues to the holy grail in the da vinci's mona lisa? Is that right? is that the general gist of it?

I'm curious about this movie because it comes out the week before X3 and if it's a big enough deal, it could pose a problem to our band of merry mutants.

oh yeah dude this movie will make more money then x men 3 i think

Trust me, X3 is in no seriouse danger. :o

That is not how I pictured Langdon. I pictured Russel Crowe when I was reading it. And I pictured Ian Holm as Teabing, not McKellen, but he still works very well.

I didn't know the Davinci Code was a sequel. I hadn't heard of the other book. All I kept hearing about was the D.C.

Good thing I looked in here 'cause I've been meaning to read the D.C., I'm never one to just jump on the band wagon but, after all this time of hearing about it I was just going to check it out. Not that I can't read it just 'cause people were talking about it, just that there was so much hype around it I was tired of hearing about it.

Whether you believe it or not The Da Vinci Code is an excellent read and I'm sure it will be an excellent film, I'm very excitied.

The Da Vinci Code to Film at Rosslyn Chapel

Source: BBC News
July 26, 2005

BBC News reports that director Ron Howard will film The Da Vinci Code at Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh in September:

The 15th century chapel saw a surge in visitors after the book's plot suggested it was built to house the secret of the Holy Grail.

Trustees spokesman Stuart Beattie said: "The chapel has long been a popular destination for hundreds of years.

"There are many stories in Rosslyn's long history and I'm sure the chapel will make a superb backdrop for this particular one."

A spokesman for Rose Line Productions described Rosslyn as a "magnificent" building which would enhance the quality of the film.

The chapel will close for the filming between 26 and 29 September.

The May 19, 2006 release, based on the Dan Brown novel, stars Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany.

Anybody know when The Da Vinci Code will be released in paperback? I don't feel like giving Brown $17 and using up some of my shelf space.

I also wish they would have done Angels & Demons first. The Science vs. Religion argument is a more potent debate today where as Jesus fathering a child is a subject people could care less about because it isn't true.

Oh well, maybe they'll pull the same thing with these books with Langdon like they with Tom Clancy's novels and Jack Ryan. They had three (I believe) different actors play the same character and the adaptations didn't come out in chronological order. Maybe we'll get an Angels & Demons movie one day.

New Pictures from Da Vinci Code UK Set

Source: Maintream Matt
August 16, 2005

Levi Birch from "Mainstream Matt" has been hanging outside the set of Ron Howard's production of The Da Vinci Code, which began shooting in the town of Lincoln in Northern England this week. Matt kindly shared a few pictures he received the chapel, where filming has been taking place, as well as a picture each of Howard and Tom Hanks, who plays Robert Langdon, the hero of Dan Brown's best-selling novel.

You can check out the pictures at Mainstream Matt's Site by clicking on The Da Vinci Code poster on the right.

IGN has reported some trouble on the set of the film. It contains spoilers so if you do not wish to know anything, please don't read.

August 17, 2005 - The BBC has the latest rundown on the continuing controversy over Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code and the Sony Pictures' screen adaptation currently being filmed under the direction of Ron Howard with Tom Hanks starring.

First, please be aware that there really is no way to discuss the controversy over Da Vinci without revealing SPOILERS. If you don't want to know them then stop reading.

Still here? Onward then ...

A Roman Catholic nun, Sister Mary Michael, has been protesting the film while it shoots at England's Lincoln Cathedral, which doubles as Westminster Abbey since the production's request to film there was denied. Sister Mary Michael is not alone in her belief that Brown's book is blasphemous because it claims Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a child together and that Jesus' bloodline survives to this day.

Hanks and the crew are reported to have witnessed Sister Mary Michael's protest. "It matters to me what God thinks, not what the film crew think," she informed the BBC. "When I face almighty God at my final judgement, as we all will, I can say I did try my best. I did try my best to protest."

Da Vinci Code cast member Sir Ian McKellen, who protrays the villainous Sir Leigh Teabing, has addressed the controversy in a posting at his official site. "As an atheist I am indifferent [to the book's claims and the charges of heresy against it]," said McKellen. "As a reader I couldn't stop turning the pages of Dan Brown's book."

In a posting last month as part of his Teabing's Chronicle, McKellen recalled filming scenes at the French location serving as Teabing's home, Château de Villette:

"Teabing has been handicapped by polio and I want to see what stairs I will have to negotiate tomorrow with my sticks and caliper. It is my entrance into the film. Good to be filming it first. Most of the interiors of the Château will be filmed later in the controlled conditions of Shepperton studios." For more of what McKellen had to say, click here.

The Da Vinci Code opens May 19, 2006
