The Defenders The Defenders General Discussion Thread

Defenders is a very different group from its comics counterpart. It isn't Heroes for Hire, as some claim, but it's certainly not helpful in looking at superpowered villains that can go up against Doctor Strange.

In light of this, I do wonder if Marvel will launch a new Defenders comic to mirror the upcoming series

Wrecking Crew will probably show up in a tv or netflix series sometime as a minor villain.
I'd love to see Arcade sometime, but I have no idea how to make him work in a more realistic setting.

I hope the netflix shows will give Jessica Jones her own solo comic again.

Just because this Defenders is different from the comics doesnlt mean they can't still have some interesting big villains. It'll just be boring if every villain they face is all grounded and powerless.

Why would one assume powerless villains, when all the members of the team are super-powered?

I wouldn't want prowerless villians, but the villains should be in their weight class as well as fit the tone of their series

So, what are the Defenders exactly?

Also, I know this is a bit off topic, but will the Avengers ultimate fight with Thanos be in space/another realm, or on Earth?

Doubt it'll be earth. Its been space in the comics. The mcu defenders are street level heroes that are handling unknown threats to the world. From what it looks like after watching DD.

I cannot wait to see all these actors come together. It's like waiting to see the first Avengers film all over again.

One thing I'll point out is that the Defenders in the comics is different than the upcoming The Defenders show. The show is a team up series of Marvel's netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist)

Every time I see the name of this series I think of Defenders of the Earth with Flash Gordon, Mandrake, Phantom, Lothar, and others.

So, do you think if the series like Iron Fist, Daredevil, Jesicca Jones and Luke Cage are still going after the Defenders release, that they will reference events in the Defenders?

With the Punisher having been cast for DD season 2, would you guys expect/want to see him show up in The Defenders miniseries? Or do you think it will only be the 4 heroes who have their own solo series?

I could see supporting heroes joining up, just not using up as much screen time.

^Yeah, that's a good stance. I guess we'll have to get a better idea of the story (and the role Castle plays in DD) before venturing a real guess. Same goes for Hellcat, I suppose.

Punisher and Elektra will probably in more Hawkeye and Black Widow roles in the Defenders. At least thats my guess.

I'd rather just see characters like Pun and Elektra in 1-2 episodes each while the series focuses in the team.

Doesn't really fit Punisher as a character to be a part of a team. Same with Elektra. I know they do that in the comics, but I think for the sake of the tv shows, it would be better to have them as supporting characters doing their own thing who help push the narrative forward.

I'd rather see Misty Knight and Colleen Wing take that Hawkeye/Black Widow role as characters who don't have their own series but join the team.

I can see them using the punisher like he was used in Marvel Knights: he's not part of the team, but they do cross over, even though DD consider Punisher an antagonist.

I just realised that each Defender's is very useful and kind of intertwined in this street level crime fiction.

DD = Attorney.
JJ = Private Investigator.
IF = Rich guy. He could be the inside man in those high society places where the rich and corrupted are.
LC = He could be part of someone's security detail.

Never really thought of that before. Nice.

Netflix already put up a page for this

I think this serie will not be good, because of the hype and our expectation is very high.

When i readed comics, i had liked mainly: Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra and, of course, x-men.
So, i always liked them (hells kitchen heroes), but, never the serie will give me a satisfatory story.

I think that will be the same problem of the Lost ends and, in the future, Avengers 3 (infinite war). Nobody will like because of the hype.

You're wrong. Avengers 1 lived up to it's hype. Most people loved it.
It's the same scenario with this.
