Dark HorizonsDisney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the studio won’t interfere when it comes to the R rated properties they will gain as part of the 20th Century Fox acquisition.
Speaking about the nature of the studio opening these types of movies after the acquisition has gone through (via Coming Soon, Iger says the success of the “Deadpool” films are a great example and: “We’re going to continue in that business, and there might be room for more of that.”
Iger adds they will have to be careful in their branding of the films, and make sure they are properly marketed as being R.
Is that a compliment? If so i agree.Disney already cutting the fat from their new steak.
It's going to set off a wave of studio consolidation like the airline industry did a decade ago. Less competition, less riskier projects that can pay dividends for the right studio...
It's good that Disney won't discontinue the Fox brand completely, but the fact they're cutting people now (and dropping Fox 2000 when they said they wouldn't pre-merger close) doesn't bode well for the number of Fox-branded output after 2020.
It doesn't surprise me one bit. The only surprise was how quickly they announced it. I thought they would take at least a month or two to "evaluate" before chopping parts off.Just read the first few pages of comments for fun...according to some, the movie industry will crumble since this deal has finalized.
I wonder how any peoples' opinions have changed since 2017.
Disney already cutting the fat from their new steak.
Disney has no incentive to make mid budget dramas which is basically what Fox Searchlight does. Disney would rather produce a 100m budgeted blockbuster than 3 30m budgeted drama/rom-com/comedies. There's more money to be made through toys, merch, ancillary sales, theme parks, rides etc off of a blockbuster. They can monetize the big budget movies for years using different avenues. They can't do that with smaller films. So a single 100m budget movie doing well is preferable to 3 30m budget films doing well. Since the latter barely contributes to the overall bottom line. Disney probably sees these mid budget movies as a hindrance to the bottom line so they've stopped doing them altogether. So it'll be very interesting to see what Disney does with Fox Searchlight.

0k, I would hafta replace Fox Searchlight with Fox 2000 but y'all get the drift. This decision just makes sense to me. I don't hafta like it but the logic is there.
My real question mark is what they do with Fox Searchlight.
Been on the same page this whole time. And I too still worry about Fox Searchlight.
