We refreshed it a few more times and got another advertisement, this time reading: “From survival horror mastermind Shinji Mikami comes The Evil Within 2. Now available for preorder. ‘The only way out is in.'”

Eh. I thought the first was alright but it really needed some shine added.

I might give it a try when it comes out. I am a sucker for horror games.

I agree Kevan, but that is another reason I am really excited for this. Feel like it will get the full treatment unlike the first, if that makes sense.

While The Evil Within 2 seems to be a horror-filled successor to the first game, there’s one significant difference that could drastically change the overall experience.
According to Game Rant, creator Shinji Mikami will not be directing the upcoming horror sequel, instead stepping into a producer role. Mikami is passing the torch to John Johanas, the visual effects designer of The Evil Within and director of the game’s two expansions, The Assignment and The Consequence. No specifics were given on why Mikami would not return to direct, but it is speculated he could be working on a new game for Bethesda Softworks.
The initial draw of the first game for many was Mikami’s vision to make The Evil Within act as a spiritual successor to his work in the Resident Evil franchise, as well as a needed callback to the roots of survival horror. Of course, once the game was released, it didn’t exactly fulfill its promise to fans and critics, receiving mixed reviews. In turn, this could be a positive change for the sequel, as giving directorial control to Johanas, who created the crazy visuals from the first game, could be the touch that will make The Evil Within a long-lasting franchise.
The return to Sebastian’s harrowing and dark story was officially revealed during Bethesda’s E3 conference, with gameplay and narrative trailers released following its announcement. Players will be forced to step back into the STEM project to battle new monsters and hopefully bring an end to Sebastian’s pain and suffering.
The Evil Within 2 will release on Friday, October 13th, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

NEWSBethesda releases new story details for The Evil Within 2; Don't need to play original Today at 6:23 pm

Here's an in-depth FAQ of Evil Within's story.

The Evil Within was a very interesting horror game, it was also pretty ambitious with its story and it got a bit confusing at times. Not to mention, it has been about three years since the game released so if you did play it you might have forgotten what the hell happened in that wild game.[Bethesda will be releasing a sequel later this year and while you don't need to play the first game to understand the story of the second one, they've written a nice FAQ for not only the first game and all of its DLC but also the sequel! If you want to read about what happened in the first game, click here, otherwise, we're just going to go right into the second game down below.
THE EVIL WITHIN 2

How’s Sebastian holding up at the start of the game?
Well, he’s alive, but that might not be such a great thing, depending on who you ask. He probably doesn’t think so. After all the horrible stuff that went down during the events of the first game, returning to the real world should have been a walk in the park for our dear friend Sebastian. But when he tried to get help hunting Mobius down, people refused to believe his story. And just his luck, anyone who might have corroborated it is either dead or missing. So now everyone thinks he’s crazy, and as a result, Sebastian is out of a job.
The STEM world in the first game was a messed up version of Krimson City. Is it the same in The Evil Within 2?[
Nope. This is a completely separate STEM world. Called Union, this one uses Lily’s mind as the Core, though Lily has gone missing inside of STEM. (Yes, that Lily – Sebastian’s missing daughter.) Cue Sebastian being sent in to locate her and pull her out. Whereas the previous STEM world was familiar – despite it being an incredibly warped version of Krimson City – Sebastian has no knowledge of Union. Union was intended to look like idyllic Small Town, USA. But the road to hell is paved with Mobius’ intentions, and something horrible is happening in Union, causing it to tear itself apart. STEM worlds require a Core to exist, and with Lily missing inside of the STEM world, it’s beginning to deteriorate. As her mind falls apart, so does Union. Goodbye Pleasantville, hello Amityville.
Will I see any familiar characters in the sequel?
Kidman is a huge part of the story, obviously, but as mentioned above, this is a separate STEM world than that of the first game. STEM worlds are built using the Core’s own memories, and Union was built using the mind of a little girl who has no knowledge or memory of the events that transpired in the first game. You’re going to encounter a mostly new cast of characters, each with their own reasons for being in STEM.
So that means there are other people in STEM with Sebastian?
Sebastian is Mobius’ last choice to send into Union. Other agents were sent in before Sebastian, though we can pretty much assume they didn’t have a lot of luck. After these agents start going missing, Mobius realizes Sebastian might be their only hope of saving Union from collapse. Sebastian doesn’t care about Union – he only cares about saving Lily – but the deterioration of the world forces him into a race against time as he fights to find his daughter before her mind is lost in STEM.
By the time Sebastian arrives in Union, the city is crumbling and the Mobius team has been scattered to the wind. Sebastian can run into them as he explores the world, and (providing they’re still alive) they can offer side quests that lead to new weapons, resource stashes or information.
What is Juli Kidman’s role this time around?
Unlike in the first game, she hasn’t actually traveled into STEM with Sebastian, but he can still stay in contact with her via a communicator device. In addition to being a vital link to the real world, Kidman will provide Sebastian with information about Union, Lily and the other Mobius agents in the world. The Evil Within 2 releases on Friday the 13th this October for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

The Evil Within 2 ‘Survive’ gameplay trailer
Published 3 hours ago. 13 comments.

How will you survive?
Evil-Within-2_07-19-17.jpg
Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks have released a new gameplay trailer for The Evil Within 2 dubbed “Survive.”

Here’s a brief overview of the game, which was announced at E3 2017 in June, via Bethesda:

“It’s all your fault…”
That’s the mantra running through Sebastian Castellanos’ mind. Plagued by memories of the daughter he couldn’t save and a mystery he could never solve, he begins to lose himself in his past mistakes. Sebastian lives out his nightmares every day, unable to pull himself from his downward spiral. Until an old friend-turned-traitor reenters his life with an offer: Return to the nightmare and save your daughter. The Evil Within 2 gives a broken man the chance to make things right and find the peace he so deserves, but he’ll have to go through hell first.
The Evil Within 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 13.

So ready to fail at sneaking.
[YT]Pf5xXtt3Cak[/YT]

Since Bethesda revealed The Evil Within 2 during E3 2017, we learned that players new to the series won't have to play through the first game to understand the sequel and got to see a few more of the horrors that await us in the game. Now, we are getting a few more details on how we'll be able to customize our main character, Sebastian.

“The world of The Evil Within 2 is full of possibilities,” said Game Director John Johanas in a Bethesda Blog post.

“With some of the larger stages we’ve created, we’re opening Union up to the players’ wishes and unique playstyles. Through the layout of the world, as well as the crafting and customization systems in the game, we’re providing you with the freedom to take on the challenges in front of you however you choose.”

As far as customization goes, both Sebastian and gear customizations are a bit more flexible.
t has been detailed that Green Gel will no longer be required for the customization of Sebastion and weapons. Instead, the Gel will be limited to upgrading Sebastian and Weapon Parts will be the resource used to upgrade weapons. With handguns or shotguns, you'll be able to tweak your firepower, ammo capacity, reload time and fire rate.
When it comes to the Warden Crossbow, you can increase range, decrease aim time, and specify the type of bolts you like (Shock, Smoke, Harpoon and Explosive Bolts).

According to Bethesda, the upgrades for Sebastian include (but are not limited to):

 • Health: Dropping some Green Gel in the Health tree will give you the chance to survive an attack that might have otherwise killed you. This is also how you increase Sebastian’s Life Gauge.
 • Stealth: In addition to an increased movement speed while crouching, the Stealth tree can allow you to perform Sneak Kills from around a corner while in cover.
 • Combat: If you’re building a more rough-and-tumble Sebastian, the Combat tree will help you increase the damage of your melee attacks and decrease the kickback when firing weapons, among other upgrades.
 • Recovery: The Recovery tree is for players who know how tough surviving this nightmare is going to be for Sebastian. Upgrades here include an increased health recovery speed when regenerating from near-death status, and the chance to automatically use a Medical Syringe when taking fatal damage.
 • Athleticism: For the Sebastian on the go, the Athleticism upgrade options will let you increase your Stamina Gauge and give you a chance to auto-avoid certain types of incoming attacks.
On top of all that customization, you will be able to craft the items you need the most. Our crafting system lets you craft ammunition for the weapons that you like,” says Johanas. “You don’t have to rely solely on what you can scrounge up in the world. Again, it’s that emphasis on letting people play how they want to play. But it all comes back around to how much you explore and how many resources you can track down.”

All of these options allow players to decide how they play. You can sneak around of face the horrors upfront.

The Evil Within 2 Offers More Freedom, A Crafting System, And More Focus On Its Story. August 8, 2017 . 6:00am

The Evil Within 2 producer Shinji Mikami and director John Johanas of Tango Gameworks shared the latest bits of info and more on what fans can expect to see in the upcoming survival horror sequel.

The Evil Within 2 producer Shinji Mikami and director John Johanas of Tango Gameworks shared the latest bits of information and more on what fans can expect to see in the upcoming survival horror sequel. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

Here are details from the key developers in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine:

 • Development on The Evil Within 2 started when work on the last DLC of The Evil Within finished, around the summer of 2015.

 • This time they decided to go with a wider starting stage that not only includes missions but all kinds of different ways to play. There’s an element that will let you freely play at your own pace.

 • In addition to playing stealthy, players will get to play any way they like, and it won’t be like the previous game that decided on your play style for each chapter.

 • The game will have skill unlocks, as well as a crafting system that allows you to create weapons and ammunition using gathered materials.

 • The theme isn’t to increase horror elements this time around, but to come up with a more enthralling story using the setting of the previous title.

 • On the subject of horror, the focus is more on expressing a purse sense of fear rather than the grotesque.

 • The story is truly great. Especially the latter half, so it’d be a waste to have players drop it due to its difficulty.

 • The Evil Within 2’s story is connected to the previous game, so there will be something to provide info for those who haven’t played The Evil Within.

 • There are three difficulties of “Casual,” “Survival,” and “Nightmare.” Those who enjoyed the difficulty will enjoy Nightmare mode. Shinji Mikami recommends Casual mode.

 • Since The Evil Within 2 won’t be split into many chapters, there won’t be many loading screens.

The Evil Within 2 releases on October 13, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks have released a new trailer for The Evil Within 2 dubbed “The Twisted, Deadly Photographer.”

Here’s an overview of the trailer, via Bethesda Softworks:

Not only will Sebastian have to contend with the myriad horrific creatures waiting for him in The Evil Within 2, he’ll also have to deal with the human “monsters” who have made their way into the new STEM world.

Wretched creatures like Stefano Valentini, an artist with dark proclivities and unbounded imagination. You’ll see examples of his work scattered throughout Union – from grisly photographs of his victims, to the “moment of death” tableaus he creates, capturing the last seconds of a person’s life in a tangible, looping scene.
The Evil Within 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 13.

Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks have released a new trailer for The Evil Within 2 dubbed “The Wrathful, Righteous Priest.”
Here’s an overview of the trailer, via Bethesda Softworks:
Of all the characters in The Evil Within 2, Theodore is perhaps the most shrouded in mystery. Any detail about his past pushes into HUGE SPOILER territory. In other words, you’ll have to play the game in order to unlock the secrets he hides.

In Theodore’s mind, Mobius’ goals with STEM are misguided. They want to use the device as a means of controlling the populace, but Theodore believes he’s much better suited for the job than they could ever be. He sees STEM as a method for expanding his own influence, and seeks to circumvent Mobius from within their own device.
