I'm still trying to understand what their plan is with the marketing, like what are those weird posters they do supposed to be about? The ones which have a boring photos of a few of the team doing nothing with a motivational line stuck over the top.
Yeah, what is up with those posters?

I find it hilarious that they are going for the "rebellious teenager" crowd...

when the most rebellious acts featured in the trailer are Johnny Storm being *****y in meeting

"hey rebellious teens come watch a bunch of nerds do their homework and get good grades... then they get superpowers and help people and s***, that'll show their parents"

"Go see the movie":hehe:

I really, really hate those.

*DING, DING, DING*

We have a winner!

Remember when Kinberg said this was a 'coming of age story'?

And now we see scenes where they're talking about parents and teachers holding them back.

I think the military in this represents the parents and teachers who are holding these people back and not allowing them to spread their wings. And I think this is a MAJOR thematic element. (We also see it in the beginning with Reed and his parents and his teachers).

Which is of course, idiotic.

I am a parent and I used to be a teacher. I may not have always done everything exactly right, but my goal has always been for my son and my students to stretch and strive and achieve. Despite what they may believe, I have never wanted to hold them back.

I think this is why Kinberg and Trank have had such a hard time describing what this film is really about. It's about a really stupid idea.

I saw on that video spotlighting the 4 separately (though using the exact same voiceover every time) that Sue has hyper-intelligence. ookaaaay

Yeah, what is up with those posters?

Cheap and lazy. Like lame motivational posters.

Recent discussion had me think of one myself though. Here, Reed & Johnny sing an inspiring message for Ben (and any other emasculated males there might be):

Oh my god. We've just seen the/a "Flame On" moment and it COULDN'T be delivered with more indifference or nonchalance if they freaking tried.

He literally says "Flame on..." and turns a dial on his wrist.

Are they trying to go with the whole "he says it earlier but with complete and utter indifference but then when the chips are REALLY down and his suit is broken and **** then he says it and it's all super badass and stuff!"

Oh man...that must be that Reed moment where he's lying on the ground and his containment suit is all busted up. And then he stretches without the aid of it and that's going to be a huge defining moment. When they use their powers without the stupid suits.

Oh god.

And you just know they're keeping the worst stuff out of the marketing!!!

That's a scary thought.

That's the funniest part.

Are my eyes deceiving me? Is that who I think it is in the trailer?

Yep that's Tim Heidecker.

It's so cringey, it really is.

If she's so smart, why is she in this movie?

Just like the Story films, the idea of making Sue a genius physicist almost at Reed's level is a terrible idea. Why not give her a unique set of skills, like Johnny and Ben? I'd have Sue be a medical doctor. She would be essential to the team and any potential missions, and not simply as a less accomplished version of Reed.

I'm sure they'll fix it in the sequel!

:lmao:

"It's not funny! I had moobs!" - Josh Trank

:funny:

See? That comment was a bit of a head-scratcher at the time. "Why would he mention his moobs in an interview about Fantastic Four?"

Because that's the primary theme of this film.

I'm dead serious. I think Trank sat down at one point and thought about the transition from normal people to superhero as an allegory for the transition from child to adult - coming of age - and that's what this film is all about.

So the military are the parents and teachers who "just don't understand".

Terrible, terrible stuff, but I think that's really what we're getting. Just look at everything we've seen and heard and it will all start to fit together.

You're not wrong Willie. Honestly, the day Trank was announced as director I was uneasy and my fears have only been affirmed again and again.

Actually agree with just about everything stated here. Maybe this thread was a good idea after all. Some of us who grew up with these characters can cathartically vent and lament over their wholesale disassembly without getting derided for it or have to endure endless attempts to invalidate our reasons for discontent.

Anyone heard the line "In my garage?!" at the beginning of TV spot 21? Lol, what was that? Some bad editing or what?? The movie looks worse and worse with every footage they show...

Sorry guys, I'm a little late to the party. Didn't know there was another thread for this. It's amazing how fast this thread fills up compared to the other one. It's like it's the same posters posting over and over again in the other thread trying to remain positive. Even saying the Thing looks great. BS. The more we see of this thing, the worse it looks.

Yeah I'm not seeing the whole "Thing getting better with every new tv spot" thing.

He looks exactly the same and he looks bad.

And DC and X-Men Superfans have a save haven for discussing their seventh or eighth favorite comic book franchise. The one featuring genius twenty-something Reid Richardson, his geniuser would be girfriend Suki Storms, her African-American adopted brother Jimmy and Reid's childhood best bud, Bane Grimes.

Everybody wins!

I wouldn't know, since where I live they never actually show this film in TV spots. I still haven't seen one since the FIFA World Cup finals. Yet, we get stuff like MI5 and Man from UNCLE all the time.

When I saw Ant-Man they didn't even show the new trailer, they showed the one from back in the spring.

Goddamn that's funny. :funny:

It's simple, really. Your movie's already written for you. Just recast the roles, give them a new look, throw in a few new "jokes", recycle a thrown out idea like Juggernaut drop, and bam!, whole new movie to sell to the masses...

i wouldn't necessarily call it the "juggernaut drop" since he was suppose to break through the ground.. and cause the jail break... But it is however identical to Hulk, Iron-man, and even cap jumping out of a plane.. which the public has all seen before

. . . which will feature Reed and Sue's wedding, a mysterious 'Silver Surfer' and approaching ominous cloud . . . can our intrepid heroes find away to battle this new foe . . . or will they be too busy battling an old foe who has found a way to take advantage of the situation?

oh and don't forget... Silver Surfer will have a rusted and tarnished surface.. because realism

Oh I haven't seen a single one on tv. Nothing. TBS, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, AMC.

I've only been watching them as they come out on line, and not even all of them. I'll just pick one from the dozen or so that CyclopsWasRight posts, hoping something will look awesome.

None of it does.
