Superman Returns the first change in SR

That scene, like the movie itself, was piss poor. Spiderman owns the shirt rip now. Singer could have reclaimed it perhaps, but alas, it was not to be.

The issue Clark had as to whether or not he should return had moreso to do with him coming to the realization that the world has moved on without him and that in some respects it may be better that Superman NOT return. As Lois mentioned in her article, in some ways, having Superman around in the first place hindered the world by making them completely dependent on someone else to save them as opposed to trying to save themselves.

Its not that he didn't want to save lives, its that in the time he was gone the world had learned to rely on themselves and be completely independent...although they wearn't perfect, they were managing without him...does he really wanna screw that up?

That was his conflict.

Too bad Singer didn't include this "conflict" in the film.

so if we have a shot of him looking at himself in the suit ---- then I'm betting there's a quick montage of him putting on the suit. interesting. hadn't thought of that until now. The build up we want probably exsits in the cut scene in someway.

Spiderman doesn't own anything, the shirt rip was developed in the comics years before Raimi decided to steal it.

obviously, Lois' article played an even bigger role in Singer's original cut. It made Superman debate saving.... Lois, of all people. This makes for a stronger resolution at the end when Lois takes it-all-back so to speak and writes her new article.

I just hope we get to see a version with a better build up to Superman's costume reveal.

Raimi didn't steal it! He's said on many occassions that the shirt rip in the Spider-man films are meant to be taken as an homage to Superman!

Btw, is the original change to Superman in the deleted scenes menu on the dvd.

If that was the only "tribute" than it would be a non issue. :cwink:

I always thought that was so stupid to have that tribute to the George Reeves TV show. And it was only on that show. No one would have got it unless you watched the show, and who in teh general audiene ever did. Superman just always wears his suit under his clothes. Also, because Singer had Ottman edit the whole 3 1/2 hour film before snipping it out, which didnt leave them time for reshoots, had they edited it down while putting it together, they could have shot it again right. I mean it is an alley shot. They could have taken the Genesis and shot it anywere in LA in a day. He dropped the ball a lot

You don't reshoot when you're in post production and editing the final film together.

I beg to differ when True Lies was released, the Goldeneye produces reshot half the action sequences again and pusshed the release date back nearly 4 months, just because True Lies had bigger and better actions sequences.......

Now I am sure that Warner would have let Bryan Singer shoot that scene again, and let him do it properly!!!!

BS was probably embarresed to ask for more time and more budget!

Anyway I would like to add that the musical score did no justice to any off the Superman scenes.....

So...instead of Superman being released in June it could be released in October. Yeah, that's a great time for a new superhero movie. And when you're already $20 million over budget, odds are the studio heads aren't gonna give you extra money just to do a scene of Superman running down an alley ripping his shirt open.

And I thought the score was terrific. Lord knows I got goosebumps everytime the Hero theme played. :)

Not at all, I just thought as its such a symbolic and pivotal part of the film they could have shot it in half a day!

Lets be honest the rearrangement of the theme did not have the same impact as the original, anyone with one ear can hear that......

Yeah, that scene wasn't very dramatic. Even Spidey had a nice close up, in slo mo of his symbol. Supes deserves better in the next one, heck, he invented the classic shirt open thingy.:yay: :word: :supes:

once again some keep forgetting it wasn't like that in the original idea for that scene.. he shirt rips to reveal a white t shirt.

This is true Robo, but the point is they could have shot it both ways.

no, he didn't decide to take it out until post production..i would imagine with sky rocketing costs..the reshoot would be too expensive.

I am sure they didn't complete that shot in one take, which means they could have spliced some of the cuts together. For instance, I know they cut out a small part where Clark eyes a phone booth before running into the alley, so they must have had some other alley shots.

Still a dumb move, the whole him forgetting the suit thing.

Well if you read the book everything would make sense. Go read it. If SR would have kept closer to the book it would have made the money it was supposed to make.

Forget the book, the script is what it should have stuck to, but it wouldn't have made that much more money because of it either way. Keep in mind the book was written off of the shooting script.

Yeah, since we don't have a shooting script the only I have to go by is the book. I couldn't stop reading the book and was great. Its sad to see that so many parts were cut out.

its a shame we are having a debate over the classic shot that was messed up

wish i hadnt started this post now
just watched the movie again and it depressed me!
