The Flash The Flash Costume Thread

When he's in the dark, it's too dark, his red color is highly unnoticeable. It needs to be brighter. I don't like the dark shading on the sides of his mask. Suit isn't terrible but overall there could be a far better looking suit. In fact in the comics, then and now, the classic suit has looked awesome. Animated, it was too.

He's fought villains in the dark, and he looks black almost. Often times when they do a slow-motion sequence, you find it hard to see him, too much action going on while in the darkness because his suit is too dark, and while in the dark, it's even darker. Example, when you see him trying to take down the guy with the splitting copies of himself all at once, I can't find him, there's the flashy yellow blur going around, but the Flash is dark. What's the point if you can't see him in action?

In the 4th episode, the beginning sequence, Flash takes down the guys on the truck, even at day time, you find it a little hard to spot the redness of the suit, and his colors look almost the same as the men he's trying to take down that I get confused...and then the red blur doesn't match his dark colors and looks awkward.

Maybe this has already been addressed, but how do they realistically explain how his hard shaped cowl folds down softly like a hoodie?

Same way Captain America's did in the Avengers.

I don't know why they always need to pretend cowls and stuff don't work the way they do.

I can't help but be amused by it everytime they do that, though. :woot:

That new version of the cowl is definitely an improvement! I always thought the current one looked weird with the mouth hole going so far back.

Really, I'd love the suit if they used the same basic suit but "traditionalised" it. Remove the gold piping, remove the belt and that huge buckle, then add traditionally styled lightning trim that's very close to what Shipp had in the 90s - around the belt and around the forearms.

I'd be okay with keeping the boots red, but I'd at least like to see what all gold would look like. And make the chest circle silvery (i.e. "metallic white").

And lastly, a modification of the ear thingies to be a bit more traditional.

I'm sure the movie version will be a lot more "spandexy".

Not a fan of the TV suit - don't like the two-piece jacket and trousers design, or the colour... it needs to be a brighter red.
I agree the boots should stay red - but i'd like to see the soles looking chunkier with a tread, as in the comics. And agree the symbol needs a white circle... oh, and you're right - the ear pieces should be traditional wings, not the lightning bolt.
Green Arrow looks pretty damn good though.

I like the suit design but i agree it should be less dark, a brighter red like in the comics.

No, I'm pretty sure the folded back hood we see in The Avengers is purely meant to be the fabric under-hood he's wearing under the cowl and not the hard plastic part itself. They're not pretending that that hood is the whole thing, or that the cowl is meant to be fabric.

The leather hood thingy the Flash wears, on the other hand, IS meant to be the actual cowl, so I wish they'd do it in a way that isn't such an obvious cheat.

They should sculpt up a dummy cowl that is already in "folded back" position that they can switch out with the real one. I think that's what they did with Nite Owl in Watchmen.

Well he finally showed up with the new mask in the Arrow crossover- I thought it looked great! Big improvement from small changes. Weird how it didn't get introduced. Not that it needed to, but I just thought another costume was gonna get blown up or something first.

I thought the mask looked better. Was just going to ask if it had actually been changed or if I was just crazy. The mouth area looks a lot better now it doesn't go back as far.

Gustin appears to have slightly better head movement with the new mask as well.

I assume the Flash mask in the nature of the show breaks down to allow it to fold back. Still bs though but whatev.

The smaller opening really is better.

There's quite a bit of difference in the sculpt around the rear jaw and ears too - it looks way better, especially when he's facing the camera front-on.

And he really has perfectly adequate head movement, without any ugly bulging or bunching up at the neck that I noticed. They really seem to have perfected the Batman/Flash/Daredevil style comic-book cowl, I really hope Daredevil's cowl is close to this.

I think the suit is fine, especially with the new adjustments that have been made. But I still get the feeling that he'll eventually switch to something even closer to his comic book attire.

And if I'm wrong, at least this costume isn't horrible or cringe-worthy. :D

I really don't understand the hate for the costume. I love it. It's about as accurate and faithful for an adaptation of the comics as you can get. The jump from comic-to-live-action is significantly smoother and less jarring than say, jumping from Adam West's costume to Michael Keaton's costume. It's hard to even look at both of them and argue that they're the same character.

I look at Grant Gustin in costume, and to me, it's the comic come to life.

To me it's not, and it can still get better. It's like saying the first costume in The Amazing Spider-Man is the comic costume come to life, and in part two we see it can be done a lot better. The 90's Flash was the comic costume come to life. This Flash's costume is still a prototype.

There are still tons of improvements they could do. And hopefully, with better form fitting material, and the ditching of the leather, they can make him look closer to this.

I think that even if you kept the same basic bodysuit, you could greatly improve the look and comic-faithfulness of the costume by changing the trimmings and details.

Yeah, I was frustrated with how weird to "open" mouth was; I'm really thrilled that they updated it. Looks fantastic.

Well, now that his mask his noticeably a bit different from the original, I hope they start shooting new "close up" shots of Barry whenever he's running in super speed.

Still got that ginormous snowplow looking belt buckle?
