The CW has released an official description for the second episode of The Flash, airing on October 14.

The episode is called “Fastest Man Alive

BARRY HAS FUN WITH HIS NEW POWERS BUT A SETBACK MAKES HIM QUESTION HIS ABILITY TO BE A HERO —Barry (Grant Gustin) escorts Iris (Candice Patton) to a university gathering honoring scientist Simon Stagg (guest star William Sadler). When six gunmen storm the event, Barry changes into The Flash and tries to stop them. While he does save a man’s life, he passes out before he can capture the robbers, which frustrates him. As Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) scramble to find out what’s wrong with Barry, Joe (Jesse Martin) comes down hard on Barry for taking the law into his own hands and risking his life. Barry realizes that it wasn’t six gunmen but a metahuman named Danton Black (guest star Michael Christopher Smith), who can make multiples of himself. Meanwhile, Iris becomes even more intrigued by the “red streak.” David Nutter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (101).

Reading "the red streak" gave me flashbacks of the Red-Blue Blur...

I find it remarkable that after seven seasons the best name nickname for pre-Supes Clark they could think of was the Red-Blue blur. And then they upgraded all the way to "the blur". All kinds of thankful Flash is getting named the Flash within the first few episodes. Now if they can just start calling Ollie Green Arrow.

And don't forget they had him burning the \S/ all over the city while still calling him that name. I thought the "Good Samaritan" or just "Samaritan" made sense.

Well I think it was a great name for Clark at the time.

I think they could've been a lot more creative. Both "The Blur" and "The Red/Blue Blur" were lazy ass names.

Agreed.

The media would've come up with something more catchy for headlines.

Wouldn't something like "scarlet speedster" be more fitting if you want to hold off the unveiling for a bit?

No, never use the word "scarlet" for a superhero unless you're talking about the Scarlet Witch or the Scarlet Pimpernel. I don't know why, but it's just one of those words that makes me cringe. I remember when Marvel introduced Ben Reilly and he went around calling himself the Scarlet Spider. That had to be one of the worst superhero names ever conceived. It was basically Marvel admitting that they'd gotten to the end of the dictionary and couldn't come up with any more words to use, so that just used that.

That aside, maybe just calling him "the speedster" or "the bolt" would work.

Yeah, but scarlet speedster is a nickname for the Flash right out of the comics. There's got to be a half dozen of them, all better than any variation on blur or streak. Heck, human thunderbolt for instance.

I saw this episode early at NYCC and it was awesome! check out the speculation thread for a minor combat spoiler if interested :)

SO many nods to the original 90s show in this episode, very lovely, and Shipp knocks it out of the park again.

Greg Berlanti @GBerlanti
Tonight the second episode of #TheFlash ...or as we call it, the first episode that hasn't been online (illegally) for months! Please watch!
:funny:

Having to record this again since I won't be getting home until later tonight, but I'll stay up to watch it if I need to.

Know your limits Barry! Also, first post on the forums, pleasure to meet you all!

William Sadler (Iron Man 3, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), is an excellent actor. Glad to see him still going.

Ronnie, huh? Last name Raymond?

HAHAHAHAHA :funny:
scene was awesome. cheesy but awesome.

If this show keeps this up good stuff. This would have been a perfect match with Arrow (sighs)

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that.
