The Format War

Well you might wanna look around your Blu-ray players settings and see if there is any audio options and fiddle around with them and see if you can improve anything. Or just look around in the manual about the audio.

But I still say TV speakers really do suck. Even just getting a cheap 5.1 setup that can only do Dolby Digital would be a major improvement.

How much would a 'cheap' one be though? I have looked through the manual on troubleshooting, etc, has improved it a bit.

And what about my normal T.V channels any help on them as they are all fuzzy now? Is it just to do with the aerial?

Thanks for the help a lot, BTW.

You can probably get a whole 5.1 setup in the $100-$150 range for sure. For lossless sound your going to be paying at least a few hundred just for the receiver. I mean if you are satisfied with your TV speakers that is fine but it is a night and day difference IMO.

As far as your tv channels I have no idea how that could be related to your Blu-ray player. Make sure all of your wires are connected properly would be my suggestion.

Problem is over hear I am going to be paying those same price's in pounds, having just spent £279 on the player, not sure if I wanna do that just yet.

Yeah, probably some i;ve missed from the old player, will check it out tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice.

Yeah a surround sound system even if your not spending much on it is something you wanna research anyways to make sure you are getting something worth getting. But if you were fine with your tv speakers before then you probably will be fine once you mess around with your players settings for a while.

I thought HDMI outputs audio also. Maybe you don't need to be using the audio cable.

Yeah, bit of messing about i'm sure it'll be fine, may get a sss in the future, but not just yet.

It does, but in that mode, the sound wasnt that good, according to the instructions the audio cables were needed as well.

Sony has just issued a PRESS RELEASE announcing full details on the upcoming October 20th Blu-ray Disc release of the 1986 horror film “Night of the Creeps” — in a “Director’s Cut“. The title isn’t yet available for pre-order but stay tuned and we will keep you updated. Tech specs aren’t known at this point but likely expect 1080p and TrueHD Surround sound.

This is actually going to have DTS-Master Audio.

Watchmen Dominates Video Charts
The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Home Video's Watchmen shot to the top of the national home video sales and rental charts its first week in stores, with 36% of its total unit sales coming from the Blu-ray edition.

Planet Hulk should be awesome, but I hate the voice acting and the design that they've taken. DC's DTV movies have been far, far superior in every aspect than the Marvel ones.

Just watched Coraline and it looks absolutely stunning. The movie itself was fantastic and Henry Selick is just a genius. And checked out the 3D, which is obviously a gimmick, but it was kinda neat. Of course the glasses ruin it, but there could be potential for 3D for home viewing. I hope they figure out a good way to showcase Avatar by the time it hits Blu-ray. Besides them making new TVs to showcase the feature.

Yeah there is a lot of rumors flying around about the future of 3DTV. Unless they can figure out a way to merge it with the existing Blu-ray players and HDTV's I don't see it taking off anytime soon.

Agreed.

Paramount Pushes Back DVD Releases In Favor Of Blu-ray

In a move echoing what Disney began with their releases earlier this year, Paramount is opting to push back DVD releases of its titles until the Blu-ray discs have had a chance to sell.

DVDs could be pushed back more than a month, according to Susanne Alt at Video Business. DVD copies will still be available through rental chains on the date of the Blu-ray release, but will not available for consumer purchase.

The first title the company will try boosting with this strategy is Dance Flick, the poorly reviewed spoof of recent and not so recent dance movies. It seems odd to test a strategy such as this on a movie that only made $10 million on its opening weekend. The Blu-ray will release September 8th, with the standard definition DVD releasing four to eight weeks later.

Ken Williams, VP of Sales at Paramount spoke highly of the move, “We believe that a DVD rental window will increase revenue in that channel and that releasing a Blu-ray exclusively for sell-through will help drive adoption of the format, so it’s a win-win scenario.”

I think thats a good strategy I just hate it when they always choose a bad movie to do it with. And not only is it a bad movie it didn't even do well moneywise in theatres. Very odd indeed.

I'm disappointed with what I've heard about the Battlestar Galactica Complete Collection, and more specifically the packaging. Apparently it's just cheap cardboard and does not actually hold the discs securely, since they just slide into paper instead of clicking into a plastic holder like they should. For $200 that's just plain unacceptable, so I think I'm going to wait for the individual sets.

Well with the DeepDiscount sale you can snag the collection for $169.42 shipped. But the sale ends soon and you would have to wait a while since it looks like it is backordered probably from a ton of people already taking advantage of the sale.

Also if you do the Bing Cashback with it you can get an additional 4% off. :)

Ugh. Did you SEE the packaging that the TMNT Boxed Set is coming in??

Now THAT'S horrible packaging!!!!! :( I'm SO tempted to cancel my pre-order...

I think it is pretty neat for a collectible packaging. But I still have no idea why WB insists on not releasing movies individually as well.
