The Format War

They're not supposed to be good. They're just mindless action movies.

LOL. That is a weird statement to make. They aren't supposed to be good. I don't think the writers and director were going "Let's make the ****tiest action movie we can!" But I do get that they are supposed to be mindless action movies. But there IS such a thing as bad mindless action movies and I would personally say The Transporter movies fit into that category. Don't get me wrong I love me some good mindless and out the door realism. You are talking to a guy who owns and enjoys the movies Crank and Wanted. I saw the first Transporter and it kept my attention and it was alright at best. I never felt it needed a sequel after watching it but I guess it was solely a franchise built on how much money it brought it in not the reviews and outcry for another Transporter.

There were 6 Star Wars films. ;) :D

Well I happen to be in the minority that thinks the first 3 Star Wars movies are overrated. I guess I just didn't get caught up in that I am not saying they are bad though I thought they were good and well made films just way overrated. As for the prequels I think we all know whats going on there and its called George Lucas squeezing every cent he can out of the few good ideas hes had in his career.

I liked the first one. The second wasn't that good and I never saw the third. I agree that it really didn't need any sequels.

George Lucas? The guy who made that classic movie Howard The Duck?:p

Lucas only produced it. Willard Huyck is the one who wrote and directed it, which it just came out on DVD and I will be buying.

Howard the Duck is definitely one of those movies that is charmingly bad...lol. If it came out on Blu-ray I would have to get it for nostalgic reasons.

I wonder how many years we will have to wait for the Blu-Ray of Howard the Duck. Since we finally got a region 1 DVD after years and years of waiting.

Well I know Monster Squad took forever to get a DVD release but I think I read recently that the director was talking about a possible near future Blu-ray release already.

yeah, I bought the Monster Quad when it came out. That was because they didn't know who owned the distribution rights at the time. Howard was delayed because Lucas didn't want it out. I guess he needed the money. Lucas doesn't seem to keen on getting movies out on Blu-Ray.

i actually prefer seperate seasons or movies in comparison to boxsets, maybe i'm alone in this?

oh... and can anyone recommend heroes season 1&2? what's the pq like?

.....

thanks for the help guys.

thanks for the help guys.

From what I remember, the PQ on Heroes was kind of hit and miss. Some parts looked great and some parts not so much, it was kind of inconsistent. Although, it would be an upgrade from the DVD's. So, if your a heroes fan, go for it.

Ghostbusters unoriginal BD artwork.

i don't know if i like the background blue

They pretty much took the current DVD cover and changed it from green to blue. Was hoping for something better.

oh, and howard the duck on bluray would be awesome haha

oh and i just bought heroes season 2 on blu ray yesterday, really contemplating getting the first season though before i watch it so i can see the improvement in pq.. apparently quite a contrast

Warner Permanently Discounts Blu-ray Titles
For the first time, Warner Home Video will permanently discount 16 of their Blu-ray titles by 43% to a new SRP of $16.99. With retailers typically discounting off SRP by as much as 40%, you can expect to be able to grab these titles for $10-12). The entire list of titles, which will be repriced on April 7th, has not been fully detailed, but what we do know we have listed below:

* Scooby-Doo: The Movie
* Battle of the Bulge
* Body Heat
* Eyes Wide Shut: Special Edition
* Lethal Weapon
* The Omega Man

Fox Reveals Blu-ray Releases for 24, Predator 2 and The Siege

In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that they will release '24: Season 7' to Blu-ray on May 19th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Additionally, they have revealed that they will bring the catalog titles 'Predator 2' and 'The Siege' to Blu-ray on June 9th.

Yeah, it's great that WB's lowering prices, but the transfers on those Blus like Scooby Doo aren't that good.

Yep most will be their mediocre titles. But hey the cheaper the better.

i heard about the discounts, pretty cool

We've got more cool release news for you guys today...

According to Video Business, Sony has set the most overly-promoted film ever, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, for release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 5/12 (SRP $28.96 and $39.95). Extras will include audio commentary, 3 featurettes (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - From Script to Screen, The Origin of the Feud and Re-Creating the Dark Ages - The Look of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) and William Control's Deathclub music video. The Blu-ray will also add a Behind the Castle Walls PiP track, a Lycanthropes Around the World interactive map, and BD-Live downloads and Cinechat. I think for a while there, every commercial brake on Sci-Fi Channel had a Lycans promo.

Video Business also has a good piece on Warner's upcoming release of Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music - Ultimate Collector's Edition, set to be released on both DVD and Blu-ray on 6/9 (SRP 59.98 and $69.98). A whopping TWO HOURS of new material, featuring 18 performances by 13 band and artists, has been added to the original film's running time for this release.

Speaking of Warner, the studio has just set Body Heat for Blu-ray release on 4/7. It's already available on DVD.

In other release news, 20th Century Fox has just revealed that 24: Season 7 will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 5/19 (SRP $49.98 and $69.99). Extensive audio commentaries will be available, along with scores of deleted scenes and multiple featurettes, however it does not currently appear that the Redemption TV movie will be included. (We'll let you know for sure as soon as we can confirm this one way or the other.) Also coming on both formats that day is Driven to Kill. Meanwhile, Fox's Predator 2 will finally arrive on Blu-ray on 6/9, complete with extensive features from the DVD. The Siege will street on Blu-ray on 6/9 as well. Hopefully, the original Predator will be re-released on Blu-ray with the previous DVD special features at some point.

I believe we've mentioned these previously, but Buena Vista has officially set The Greatest Game Ever Played for DVD and Blu-ray release on 6/16. Also coming that same day are Blu-ray versions of Lost: The Complete First Season, Lost: The Complete Second Season, Miracle and Sling Blade, all of which are already available on DVD.

And Universal has set Smother for DVD release on 5/5.

Hey... we wouldn't leave you with this news without offering a little cover art, right? So here's Fox's 24 (both formats) and Predator 2, along with Buena Vista's Sling Blade and both seasons of Lost on Blu-ray...

Sorry, Double Post.
