Brick was an Atlanta, Georgia based band that created a successful merger of funk and jazz in the 1970s. Brick was formed from members of two bands - one disco and the other jazz. They decided to embelish on such a combination of backgrounds, coining their own term for disco-jazz, "dazz."
Brick's roster included lead vocalist/saxophonist/flutist Jimmy Brown; guitarist/bassist/vocalist Regi Hargis Hickman; lead singer Ray Ransom, who doubled as a bassist/keyboardist/percussionist; and Eddie Irons, who did lead vocals and played drums and keyboards.
They recorded "Music Matic" for the Main Street record label in 1976, before signing to the CBS distributed label, Bang. Their first Bang single, "Dazz," topped the R&B charts and was number-three pop in 1976, and they continued on Bang until 1982. Brick scored two more huge hits in 1977, "Dusic" (#18 - Billboard Hot 100) and "Ain't Gonna' Hurt Nobody," each with a chunky, propulsive beat and catchy, light pop-jazz refrain. Their last Top Ten R&B hit was "Sweat (Til You Get Wet)" in 1981.

Fat Larry's Band was an R&B/funk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who were most successful in the 1980s.
Formed by overweight drummer and vocalist "Fat" Larry James (born August 2, 1949 in Philadelphia) in 1977, band members included trumpeter/flutist Art Capehart, saxophonist Doug Jones, trombonist/alto saxophonist Jimmy Lee, guitarist Ted Cohen, percussionist Darryl Grant, bassist Larry La Bes, and keyboardist Erskine Williams. They had two moderate hits in the UK: "Center City" and "Boogie Town". The band's biggest hits were "Act Like You Know" (1982), which appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and "Zoom", which managed to make number two in the UK singles chart in October 1982. James died on December 5, 1987, causing the groups demise.
The opening drum break from "Down On The Avenue", from the band's first album, Feel It (Stax 1977), has been sampled by many hip-hop artists, including NWA, Ice T, Jungle Brothers, and Run-DMC.
