Comics The future of Morlun...

He should go on a "Taste-Eye Treats Tour" wherein he plucks out and eats an eye out of every current Marvel character.

Shocking!

I'm not sure which part of The Other disturbed me more, the 'child-appropriate eye gouging' (), when Morlun's head was eaten, or that it was Peter who did it. Seriously, if I didn't want to hassle Barnes & Noble I would have returned it with The Ultimates #1 and asked for a full refund.

I tend to think that Morlun is actually like a dozen member of the same race rather than a single guy.

How can you compare this to The Ultimates:confused: ????

The Ultimates is arguably one of the finest runs in Marvel comics of this century that gets constant critical/fan/media acclaim, where as The Other has only been described as a waste of time by everyone on the planet, and even Marvel admitted that is was bad, and are trying to sweep it under the rug!

Look, I'm not saying you have to like The Ultimates, if it's not your bag, that's fine, but comparing it 2 The Other is a bit stupid IMO.

Now THAT is a cool idea. But seeing it's a cool idea, that would add depth and perspective on a very one dimensional charachter, JMS and Joey Q, PROBABLY wouldn't go in that direction.

Well the old guy who introduced the Totem Arc was pretty cool and pretty much said that Morlun was part of a race, so we don't know really.

Still, it would be nifty and better than Morlun coming back from the dead.

Where did he compare it to The Ultimates?

All he said was that

I don't really see much of a comparison there other than he was going to return both of them. And then apparently hassle some poor salesperson at Barnes and Noble.

Calm thyself.

What I don't understand is why Morlun was still going after Spidey even after he found out that he wasn't pure but contaminated by radiation.
So noone has a reply to this?

Well he was a VERY COOL character in his original run. But that was the only run needed. In fact that story is probably a classic Spidey story, or could've been if not for The Other. As much as The Other ****ed up Spidey, it also ruined what was a great first 9 issue run for JMS which should be classic (Coming Home, teaching, Morlun, Ezekiel, Aunt May finding out and of course the 9/11 issue too).

Lol. Sorry, I'm a huge Ultimates fan, and the thought that anyone would want to return an issue is beyond me, lol.

Maybe I just need to get a life, heh

Haven't you heard?

The Morluns are a secret European cabal started by Norman Osborn.

They only seem to be powerful because Judas Traveller makes Spidey think that the Morluns are powerful.

:woot:

The Ultimates is a great book, but there are a decent amount of comic fans who just don't dig the Ultimate Universe despite how well the story is. :o

Are you being sarcastic? That jingoistic, self-important issue where Doctor Doom cries like a *****? That's the issue that tipped me off that JMS is full of bullsha-ite. He totally lacks a basic understanding of the characters.

You hate the 911 issue because Doom cries?
That's weak man.

That, and the whole “Very Special Issue” is filled with misplaced patriotic fervor, and replaces a genuine story with the MJS oft-used preachy rallying cry phoned in from the fourth season of Babylon 5. Tack on a lame scene that shows the villains of the Marvel Universe pitchin’ in and sheddin’ tears for the cause and you’ve got yourself one lame ass issue.

Well, that was the one "sore thumb" scene in the book. It's the one part that keeps that story from being a great one, IMHO.

-Kingpin being upset, I can see that. It's "his" city, and if New York is in the grip of chaos, then he's pretty much out of buisness...also, he's a New Yorker.

-Ock? I don't get why he was so upset. He's tried to reign terror over New York and the world a dozen times over, so this really wouldn't phase him.

-Dr. Doom? He couldn't give two s***s what happens to Americans. The fac tthat the Fantastic Four were there, and he wasn't attacking Reed Richards just makes the scen dumb....but not as dumb as....

-Magneto. He would have used this event as more proof that mutants should take control of the world from humans, as humans are too primitive to rule the world. Magneto lives by the "Only good human is a dead human or an enslaved human" theory. This wouldn't bother him anymore than stepping on an ant-hill.

Aside from that one scene, I enjoyed the issue. The two page spread where Spidey arrives is jaw-dropping. The scene with the kid who sees his dad wheeled out on a slab is heart-breaking, and Spidey's reaction upon seeing Captain America just brings chills to me every tiem I even think about it. THat is one of the more powerful images JR Jr. has ever done, IMHO.

I don't hat ethe issue, but that one scene is what keeps it from being as great as it should have been. Either way, it was a fitting tribute to the men and the women who lost their lives and their loved ones on that day, and I can't hate on that.
