The Future of Star Trek

What does the future hold for Star Trek after a sequel to STID is released?

  • More Star Trek films with the same crew (Abrams-verse/alternate timeline)

  • More Star Trek films with a new crew (Abrams-verse)

  • A TNG reboot set in the Abrams-verse

  • A new TV series set in the Abrams-verse

  • A new TV series set in the original timeline

  • An animated series (Abrams-verse)

  • Nothing. Star Trek will most likely die for good.

The article does mention Chris Pine was in early negotiations, so I have to assume the main players Paramount wanted have got a heads up and the “lesser” players either play or are written out kind of thing.

Meaning, when they said the original crew, they meant Kirk and Spock and hopefully the rest lol

I don't know. I would be interested in a time travel movie with Hemsworth as Kirk Sr and I was even more interested in the Tarantino and Hawley films. I hope the new one happens and it turns out good and fresh.

I think Hemsworth would bring in a lot of appeal to non trekkies which is really what the franchise needs. Like, I love trekkies and I am one but if it doesn’t appeal to more people it’ll keep flopping

I dunno, Hemsworth returning just feels like a desperate move for a franchise that doesn’t know where to go. Because there is no way they would even be considering it if his career hadn’t blown up after his 5-minute role in the first film.

I have zero interest in Hemsworth returning, that feels like such a desperate move. It would be akin to Fox’s awful mistake in beefing up Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique in the X-Men sequels due to her fame.
It would depend how much Hemsworth cared about the role for me (and I have a feeling there’s a chance he would care). That was the main issue with Lawrence in X-Men as she was good elsewhere.

Just based on past Star Trek stories, doing something to build a plot around Kirk meeting his dead father just seemed odd and bizarre to me.

They kind of did the stuff with Kirk dealing with losing his father in the original movie. Didn't seem like there was a story there to force them to meet each other with some kind of time travel FREQUENCY mumbo jumbo.

Like when they announced that premise, it came out of left field IMHO.

Yeah, but what a 5 minutes ! Tear-inducing epic beginning.....

Oh yeah it’s great for sure but that’s another reason why he SHOULDN’T come back. It would cheapen the sacrifice.
