Not sure it was a Western (I think it was contemporary and about a snuff film and Depp, playing a Native-American, sacrificing himself for his family or something) and not sure euro critics liked it either or even saw it as it seems to have disappeared pretty fast from the face of the earth and has the reputation of not being very good, (but I haven't seen it.)
One of the few things euro critics got right was to recognize Clint Eastwood's talent as well as his auteur quality very early on and before their US counterparts.
