The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

I remember Jimmi Simpson’s name being thrown around for Lex a while back. After watching him on The Man Who Fell to Earth and Westworld, I can definitely see it.

I could see that and I never would've thought of it before hand. I've wanted him for a few comic villains, mainly riddler (I'm not mad he didn't get it), Mad Hatter, or Arcade, but he honestly could be a great Lex. He has the kind of charisma and darkness required for the role.

Yeah I like that actor. He's always seemed to me like the second coming of James Spader. He looks like he could be long lost son or something, and his screen presence carries a lot of that same overbearingly smug, superior vibe. Spader himself could still do it too, actually, if you were going for that more portly version.

Yeah, he’s great and I totally see the Spader comparison, with maybe a little Christian Slater thrown in. I never would have thought so a decade ago when I only knew him as Liam McPoyle (LOL) but he’s really gotten to show his range in more recent roles.

Honestly, if his energy was even like 10% less creepy, I’d say Rami Malek.

To Lex or not to Lex...
I suppose it depends on what kind of Superman film we get ( if we even get one )

For me, I would prefer Lex be about 20 to 30 years older than Clark.

If we get a superman in his late 20's to early 30s, then I'd want Matthew McConaughey as an older, established Lex.
Lex would already be solidly established as the wealthiest and most powerful man on the planet.
He enjoys rock star status everywhere he goes.....people fawn over him everywhere, but he looks down upon people as useful idiots. They're Ants to him.
He's very arrogant.

Then along comes superman and stills his thunder.

But, If they want Clark and Lex around the same age ( late 20s early 30s ) then Thomas Felton
.

I have never liked Clark and Lex being of similar age, it's always bothered me when portrayed that way.

Lex should be a mature age man that is forever holding onto his youth, the times we live in now give us great real life Lex examples such as Bezos and Tesla man (his name I can not remember right now) oh Musk. I really think these types are great examples for what lex Luthor would be like, at least in social form.

Lex should definitely be as evil and reprehensible as Musk but not so blatant about it. And he should also be an ACTUAL genius and not just a con man who has benefited from a lifetime of privilege. Lex should be capable of fooling the general public into thinking he’s actually a good guy.

I'm so sick of getting a goofy azz Lex on film.
I want a serious, intimidating, love to hate Lex.

And I'm pretty sure Lex would be in peek physical condition and not look like some frail, hangs out in a Starbucks all day, looking guy.

Matthew McConaughey would own it.

If they are sticking with a young Lex Luthor then please let it be Domhnall Gleeson.

No more nerdy and unintimidating Lex.
Jason Isaacs
Edris Elba
Brad Pitt
Sean Bean
Ewan McGregor
That's the kind of actors I'd want for Lex.

I know it’s cheesy but if they want to recast they can always try and do something similar to what they did on the Superboy show & have Lex have “surgery” to appear different OR if they wanted they could go the whole Luthor’s brain transplant idea they did in the comics Or of course they could just use Flashpoint as the reason.

I think the flash will not only reset the timeline, but change it. It could easily be used to explain the new things.

I'm hoping at the end of it, we see a different and new flash.
Other things have changed as well.
A Superman with a different attitude.
A different Lex.
Some new heroes that were not there before, etc etc.

I highly doubt they’re gonna have a new Flash at the end of the film. No decisions will have been made on Ezra yet. There’s a lot to sort out and money talks.

Superman doesn’t even need a new attitude at the end of both versions of JL he’s in a better place. You just tell the next story.

But I do think it they do have any recastings going forward they’ll likely use Flashpoint at the explanation.

It's akways funny in Smallville but I believe Glen Howerton audition for Supes in the Routh era.
