I feel like you guys are making mountains out of molehills. Since Lois and Clark, the only Lex who’s had hair for a significant amount of screen time is Eisenberg. Being one of the few cinematic showcases in that time, it’s significant, but it was also a wholly unlikable take on the character that’s practically got “What Not to Do” stamped on his forehead.

You want to worry about recent trends? Worry that this Lex is going to have a beard.

I'm honestly not worried about Lex and having any form of hair. I think he'll be a classic looking Lex no matter who gets cast.

I’m actually kind of surprised Hoult seems to be itching to get back to that world after a decade in X-Menland. He’s built enough of a career for himself outside of franchise work that I think most would say “Alright, I’m good.”

Just my thinking here, but whomever is cast as Lex will probably be in SEVERAL films, and not just Superman films.
It may just be cameos but it will still count. So possibly 10 years or more will need to be committed to Lex by him.

Imo I think Lex will be partly responsible for attracting what?or who? the main villain of the DCU ends up being.

It could be Brainiac, Darkseid, Amazo, or something else entirely.
Lex may end up even having to help the heroes to protect his own hide.

I certainly want Lex to be mature, I see it like not mature is Kylo Ren and mature is Darth Vader... Lex shoiuld have that Darth Vader feel when he enters a room.

Hoult is an interesting choice, but I do remember reading about five to seven years ago, an article in which he stated he was finished with Superhero movies. Obviously that has changed.

People actually can do superhero movies and get work, and in some cases lots of work, Chris Evans, Tom Holland and RD jr come to mind, though they all have talent, which helps.

the menu was a hit, and he has Nosferatu and Clint's farewell movie. Almost feel like him being second place for Batman after Pattinson got him a lot of career cache lol

its wild he lost out on I think the batman, top gun maverick and missed out on the new mission impossible film. Was apparently meant to be the main villain in the dead reckoning movie too.Makes it all the more weird Esai was was in the role. Would have preferred a younger villain ngl.

Definitely wouldn't mind him in Luthor role. Just needs to be imposing, less Eisenberg more High Evolutionary. I think Hoult could deliver on the smarmy, kinda of loser aspect of lex easily just needs to be intimidating too.

I think you’re underestimating how great he is on The Great. Even if he was never in anything good again, his role in that should earn him a lot of respect.

Yeah, i think cooper’s out of contention since bullitt doesn’t even have a cast, let alone a start date so i can’t see it wrapping before this gears to shoot. Hope cooper does get a role in this universe though… too old for booster gold, doesn’t really fit batman, so idk

I think you can genuinely make the argument that we actually haven't seen a proper Lex Luthor in live action in a movie before. I mean how comics-accurate have they been?

I guess elements of each live action Luthor have been somewhat comic accurate. Hackman’s Luthor (and by extension, Spacey’s) we’re portrayed as brilliant scientists of sorts, which is similar to the Silver Age Luthor. Though both actors kind of put their own spins on the character’s personality. Eisenberg’s Lex was CEO of LexCorp, though they gave him the personality of a theology-obsessed lunatic with daddy issues.

That said, none of the live action Luthors really felt like the definitive Luthor to me. Hackman had some good moments but by Superman II, he comes off like a used car salesman. Spacey was disappointing and Eisenberg was insufferable. Honestly, my personal favorite live action Alex was Rosenbaum in Smallville. The show wasn’t that good overall but Lex was one thing they did right, at least in the early seasons. It still wasn’t enough to keep me watching past season 4 though.

Hackman was good, but his take on the character, after the last 35-ish years, just feels antiquated.

Spacey was just an extension of that, although not without a few genuinely menacing moments, and Eisenberg (though closer to the modern take) was just a disaster from the word “go.”

The modern take on Lex has been present in the live action shows, but it’s long past time he get a good showing on the big screen.

The thing that worries me about Hoult is that I can't really imagine a scenario where he'd be the definitivie Luthor either. I can imagine him as a take on Luthor, but not as the man from the comics. Maybe he has something up his sleeve, but idk.

This is the trump and musk stuff all over again, I just compared the idea of him walking into a room. I am not implying that Lex should be exactly like Darth, hence the comparison to Kylo.

I don't know. I usually see Lex as someone that is strong and can be intimidating. Not to the level of a Batman, but I see Lex as a person that can be perceived as "perfect". Someone who has everything and worked hard to get it, unlike Superman who was just born being the best.

Smart, strong, and charismatic. It is just that he is just so intelligent and clever, his other attributes get overlooked and usually seem irrelevant.

I’m guessing he’s a fan of this stuff. If he was going for Batman too that could also have been another longer term franchise commitment. Getting paid well over multiple films and getting additional fame and a following from these high profile projects (that could help subsidise doing future artistic projects) might have all played into the decision. I doubt he would have gone for so many high profile comic character roles if he didn't have an underlying interest.
