The Green Hornet

That gangsta paradise trailer was awesome. I'm a little more excited for this film than before. I haven't read any Green Hornet comics nor did I watch the old tv series with bruce lee as Kato. I'm guessing most people haven't either, and that's why they're taking a new approach with this character. It looks like it might pay off. Lots of people I know are interested in this film. :D Hopefully it is a good film.

initally I was not intersted, but after seeing some trailers and the direction they are going with it, I am excited for it

I think this will be one of those "surprise" hits, kind of like how Pineapple Express was

Slightly longer Gangster's Paradise albeit in worse quality

This looks like its going to be a blast

for all the complaining about the tone and Seth Rogen being "wrong" for the part...remember this, this project has been in development hell since 1992, it was resurrected by Seth Rogen and Neal Moritz (executive producer)...in all likelihood, if they didn't pick up the movie it would still be sitting on the shelf

If I recall correctly, Sony licensed the rights for a Green Hornet movie around a year before Seth Rogen was attached as executive producer, writer, & star.

Seth Rogen just happened to be around at the right time when Sony/Columbia execs were looking to get a movie into development and the execs thought there was money-making merit in his proposal.

they had the rights, but were sitting on them....Rogen and Moritz came along with what was deemed a solid proposal....in any case, damn movies been sitting in limbo since 1992

Anyone catch Seth Rogen on Letterman tonight? The new clip they showed was pretty hilarious. Green Hornet and Kato get into a fight.

I also found Rogen's story about him going into a comic book shop funny. He started talking about the "Green Hornet controversy" which was him playing a super hero and people having a problem with it. Apparently, he was in a comic shop and he heard someone rambling on and on how terrible Rogen is making the Green Hornet film (could it be Bats 'N Hornets?, I kid :P) he's guessing he didn't know he was in the store, or hoped so anyways. He said "I guess it's a good thing people are talking about it? I dunno"

It was pretty funny. :D

Skip to the 5 minute mark and he starts talking about Green Hornet. :woot: (Just realized they edited the new clip out, lame!)

LMAO at the 'Gangsta Paradise' TV Spot. This movie looks like it'll be a fun ride!

That laugh can lift my moods any day.

"Green Hornet Controversy" - the same thing happened when Robert Downey, Jr. was cast as Iron Man.....everyone should be happy that the movie has been made and will be out next week...I'm actually looking forward to it, and I will be seeing it in 3-D ( saw the 3-D trailer and it looks bad-ass )

Poster I saw at the theater today, taken w/ my cellphone :D :

I don't get the Rogen casting choice either but hey, everyone flipped out when Keaton was cast as Batman and I think we can all agree he did a pretty good job. In the least, he surprised most people.

I was always optimistic for this, because of Gondry, but damn, this tv spot has me SOLD.

HAHA, this looks great.

“The Green Hornet” languished in development until 1997, when the French music video wizard Michel Gondry was hired for what was to be his feature film directorial debut. Though the lead was offered to Mark Wahlberg, Mr. Gondry said his first choice was Vince Vaughn. Jason Scott Lee, who had played Bruce Lee in a 1993 biopic, was tapped for Kato.

Mr. Gondry and the “Robocop” screenwriter Edward Neumeier reimagined the story as a futuristic fantasy. “Our villain ate human hearts,” Mr. Gondry recalled.

Their villain met his end after swallowing a pacemaker. “The Green Hornet killed him with a microwave oven,” said Mr. Gondry. “The studio said it had ‘creative differences’ with us, so the film was shelved.”

No such deal materialized. In 2004 Kevin Smith (“Clerks”) signed up to write and direct, and Jake Gyllenhaal was approached to star. Mr. Smith’s script, featuring a female Kato, was also shelved. Literally: it was published as a comic book.

“Stephen wanted Kato to implant a microchip in Britt’s brain and control him with a joystick,” Mr. Rogen said. “Maybe they’re doing that in China, and I’m not aware of it. I don’t read the newspapers as much as I should.”

But the director was unable to work with Nicolas Cage, the film’s original villain. For reasons known only to him, he insisted on using a Jamaican accent.

“I was quite relieved when he announced he no longer wanted the part,” Mr. Gondry said

It looks like GH fans lucked out in the end. HAvent seen the film yet, but it seems much more faithful than the other almost adaptations

wow....almost as bad as that Superman script with 'suit in a can', a giant spider, and polar bear body guards

Nicolas cage wanted to use a Jamaican accent? and steve chow wanted kato to control britt reid with a microchip apparently...we really did luck out.

I didn't know the part with what Stephen Chow wanted to do when he was onboard as the director, Seth and Evan said it was a few crazy things but I didn't know it was that crazy.

But it seems like its always was a comedy thats what Im surprised by

just like the original series, Kato is the selling point.
...at least as far as the trailers are concerned.

I don't need to see it. I've seen the trailer and the Batman & Robin movie was better than the Green Hornet trailer. This film (according to the trailer) makes Bat nipples look good. It ignores the source material and is in fact a superhero buddy comedy. Again, this is an embarrassing moment for Green Hornet fans. IT MAKES US LOOK BAD. This movie is going to be a pile of ****

That is not only absurd, but patently unfair.

I like the new banner. And hearing all the changes throughout the film getting made is crazy... Some of those ideas are just... really weird. Sounds like the Green Hornet movie were getting now is 100x better than the ones that might have been made before this.

I think this is the bulb burning bright before it sizzles out. Sony's marketing department has been in high gear trying to front load the hype on what they have feared will be a film that fails miserably. Some here are beginning to drink from that Kool-aid. It's still the same movie folks. And the same nobodies will show up NOT to watch it. Look at the lack of entries on this forum for the character? Only four threads with responses since the new year. Yeah! What excitement. :whatever: I'll be surprised if it can even land first place this weekend. The posters look great. But those posters are NOT this film. Smoke and mirrors. I'll be shocked if it can even pass $50 million for it's entire theatrical run. First big bomb of 2011. Mark it here.
