I think worldwide itll be between 500-749. I just got a feeling itll do well

surely blackest night is bring in a lot of new fans right? i've not read it yet but hear it is amazing

I never cared at all about green lantern before, but geoff johns run has made him my favorite hero of all time, tied with batman and superman.

Im kinda dumbfounded by your logic. Martin Campbell has been way more consistent than Johnston and Branaugh in terms of output. Most of his films are probably considered classics of the action genre. doesnt mean he'll do good with superheroes but so far the casting and other factors are pretty positive.

Branaugh is a great director, but he hasnt really tackled much in the 2000's that would give me extreme confidence in his abilities. Plus, he is known for Shakespeare adaptions, which he does great. Im sure he's good at adapting sources to film. Doesnt necassarily mean he can handle a big budget type action type film though. And johnston has cvarying quality in hsi films.

I think all 3 movies will be great and I trust all 3 directors. But ther eis no way to tell that GL will be the worst. They can all go either way IMHO but so far so good with them all (cap's problems aside). I just think its not so cut and dried that GL will be the least of em.

I can see Thor blowing people away, Cap being a little under the radar adn GL blowing away people as well, MAYBE JUST MAYBE more than Thor.

If I had to rank the directors, I would rank Campbell above JJ, but way below Branagh. Yes, Branagh has not done much in the 2000's, but Campbell has never done anything as ingenius as Branagh's Henry V or Hamlet. Branagh has shown he can implement complex dialect seemlessly, and at the same time build a grand atmosphere (which will be essential for Asgard). I think Thor is going to be amazing.

Captain America I have confidence in more so for Marvel than JJ. Marvel has seemed to have some really good work done on Cap for a long while. Like it is their secret weapon, and he is the lead character for all purposes in the Avengers branch of Marvel. They've waited to do him, and given LL offered his services on the spot after seeing some pre-work and stuff like that, I think Cap is going to surprise everyone by it's quality. Plus, of the 3 characters (Thor, Cap, GL), Capis the most interesting in many ways. Man out of time aspect, the symbolic nature, etc.

I think Campbell is a great action director. Mask of Zorro, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale are awesome. But, this cast doesn't "wow" me. Reynolds is fine for GL and strong is solid for Sinestro, but it's not a great cast (like Thor has...we have to wait on Cap as that is shaping up now). It's a good cast. That, and GL is the least interesting of the 3 as an individual character. Hal was bland for years in the comics, and even now, he is still not the most interesting character conflict wise and such. I think GL is going to turn out like TIH. Very enjoyable, but when compared to the rest of that summer (TDK and IM), it won't be regarded as well.

As for BO, GL has Reynolds going for it, but little name recognition. I think Cap has the most name recognition of the 3, and will be more successful than people think for that reason. I see GL making BB-ish numbers.

In terms of numbers, I couldn't even pretend to begin to give you any sort of estimate. However, if I had to say anything, I'm sure it'll do well enough to warrant a sequel, but until I see footage, I can't say much more.

It's been a while since you've been around these parts, Drakon. Where have you been?

The producers are probably hoping to get to Iron Man 1 numbers and i think that would be the best case scenario for green lantern and maybe even that is pushing it. It will not touch Batman or Spider-man figures.

Alot depends if the first trailer can wow ppl like Iron Man did.

yea as i said back a page i am sure each will do well enough for each character. Each films are targeting different genres and each are at different points in the summer movie season. So if the films turn out well we could see all with legs and pull well enough figures. I would hope for total world wide figures for all 3 at or over 500 million.

Personally:

I think that Thor is going to tank

I think that Captain America could do okay if it doesn't completely suck

I think that GL has the best chance of being a huge hit because it sounds more appealing than the other flicks. And by huge hit, I mean Star Trek size hit...adjusted for higher ticket prices ofcourse. So, I think that it could sale as many tickets as Trek but make more money.

These are just feelings though because it's impossible to predict at this point. Come back to me when these movies are close to coming out.

i don't think Thor, regardless if its actually good or based on the talent involved, is gonna be a break through hit of the season.

However, because it is the first movie of the Summer with people itching for their summer movies, I can see it being big in the first weekend. I just don't know about the legs.

Thor has the best release date by a considerble margin. But 3D will probably push it over Thor, I think it'll be reasonably close between them in the domestic market. Though I think Thor would have the most overseas potential.

I don't even think Cap is in contention, opening in the same month as Deathly Hallows II and Transformers 3 is just suicide.

The only successful Fantasy films come from the LOTR's franchise...thats why I don't have an ounce of faith in Thor being a boxoffice success. I'll never say never but right now I'm not betting on it.

I'm sure it will do fine overseas though.

if GL has star trek level effects, it could have a big appeal in the 3d dept

3D will inflate alot of movie's boxoffice so I will be predicting more for alot of films in the future.

I'm still hoping that 3D is a fad because I hate the very concept of it.

yea as i said all i hope for is good films and i do wish all 3 the best of luck.

I don't think anyone is rooting against any of the three, but I am sure everyone has their film they're most looking forward to. I was always a Marvel guy, and Cap is my 2nd favorite superhero. Naturally, my attention is mostly on Captain America as far as hype. Thor was never one of my favorites, but the director and cast has me really hyped for it. That and it is connected to the building of The Avengers, which as a Cap fan over the years I am also a huge Avengers fan.

I think GL has the best comic out there right now. I boycotted new comics, but I read a lot of newer Green Lantern stuff (up through Agent Orange) and I love it! I am anxious to see the GL movie, but I definitely rank it as #3 of the 3 films. That is me personally, though. We all have a differing heirarchy.

yea we all should hope each do well enough for each character. Cause a good BO for one is a good thing for all even though its marvel and dc respectfully and all that. For me i want to see all 3 in a equal value. I dont like or dislike any of the 3 characters myself. I said before i dont really know much on the history of any of the three besides a few comics i see them in, reading online about history, or any animated forms i seen of said characters. So i just cant wait for next summer film season.

I'm generally 'whatever' on 3D in a movie, but I think that if any movie exists that would be perfect for 3D, it's GL.

It's been a while since you've been around these parts, Drakon. Where have you been?

I've been hella busy with work and making time for the girlfriend. As it stands, I get maybe ten posts a week on here, and at least a third of that comes from posting staff-related stuff =\

GL will be realesed in 3D and tickets got more expensive 3 days ago.

so try to use numbers that are based on expensive 3D tickets.

The studio's/theaters are going to regret those price hikes. Hell, How to Tame Your Dragon was in 3D and it's numbers are hella disappointing.

It's still top of the box office chart for its first week in release second by "Alice in Wonderland", which fell from a three week string at the top. The price is going up but that is because the demand is high for 3D right now (and we haven't reached summer yet). I don't think they will regret the hikes, because they may not have reached what the market will bear yet.

prices will not go down. i think they never did he he ;)

yea yea i know, i was just saying who knows what prices can/will be in the coming years, sure they will probably go up, and maybe it could go down. Plus it also counts on where you live too. Smaller towns/cities seem to be around 9.50 for a 2d movie/13.25 for 3d. Where as larger cities its like 15 for 2d movies and close to 20 for 3d movies.

So far this year the three biggest films WW are fantasy films.

GL I think will do the most out of the three.

Thor has potential. But everything must be ****ing spot on and turn anyone off. The costumes, the plot, just the look of it all. That trailer needs to be ****ign amazing to get people to see it. It will be the first summer movie of next year. It could have a so so to solid openign weekend. if it's good, WOM will bump it up more. But I'm not expecting a smash hit. But I think it has potential.

Cap might have more of the edge over Thor. Everyone knows him and Evans is a great lead. If everything impresses then it should do well enough.

But all in all I think GL will come out on top. I think it could be next year's IM or ST.
