Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread

Hal didn't even know how to use the ring, it just happened unintentionally. Not to mention, Hal is supposed to be somewhat immature in his origin, he's not really a noble when starting out, those qualities are developed later on in his tenure as Green Lantern.
And it didn't work. Look at the results. The movie failed.

I'm simply saying. Re-edit that moment so Hal uses the ring on those guys in self-defense because honestly I sort of understood those guys' anger. Hal got them fired for being an immature and cocky *****ebag. They roughed him up, didn't seriously hurt Hal, and then Hal reacted when they left him and nearly killed them. I sort of didn't like Hal in that moment. And honestly I don't think the audience did either. I think the results prove my point.

Listen, it looks like a lot of you are quick to Reynolds defense. Why? He didn't do a good job. He was miscast. The movie is a failure.

Whats the guy supposed to say, "the film was horrible". The studio put in the money, the director made casino royale, goldeneye and the mask of zorro, the green lantern comic is at the height of it popularity. If I was Reynolds I would have signed on too.
Director also did the Zorro sequel, Vertical Limit, and Edge of Darkness :p .

Yea, when Hal unleashed his patented big green fist on those guys in the parking lot I was sorta like "you're a prick, you cost those guys their jobs, and you punch them through brick walls?".

I don't know why people think that we won't get a sequel at this point.

What about licensing (toys, games, food promotions, product placements, tv rights)?
Dvd and Blu-Ray sales?
Dvd and Blu-Ray rentals?

Hope should still be alive. The studio is suppose to factor in all of the money from that plus the money from the box office to determine if it's worth making a sequel or not. Please tell me I am right?
Green Lantern may make a small profit I don't see this movie making a huge return for the studio.

WB has to see how much demand there is for a sequel after ther dust has settled. If their isn't a big demand for audiences for more a sequel probably will not get made not any time soon atleast.

If there its hugely successful on DVD/Blu-Ray it may have a chance it all depends in WB is ready to roll the dice again and make a gamble.

Batman Begins didn't do amazing numbers but it was warmly recieved by fans and critics.

Green Lantern has mixed reviews at best from fans and was hated by critics.

lol, I know, but you get the point. I think its just an easy way out to lay the blame on Reynolds, the film had clear structural issue's and obviously scenes were missing. I thought he did a good job because the material is ridiculous to begin with, but thats just me. I don't think another actor could have saved this film.

I thought he was cast fine and did a good job, and the movie's problems aren't with him.

In the original script those guys were the boyfriend and his friends of the girl he woke up beside at the beginning of the film.

And if I may ad a personal note. Reynolds seems to me to be doing a dead on spiderman with all his quips and retorts...way more than toby ever could.

That's because he's more fit to be Deadpool. Post 1990, Deadpool is the king of quips.

LOL love all the cute Stark/Jordan comparisons. Maybe that's the problem, trying to mimic what Downey did with Iron Man. So there you go Marvin.

Also nowhere do I solely blame Reynolds. I blame the WB suits for going for Reynolds' types instead of real men. I blame Campbell for the digital costumes which was a stupid idea. Campbell wanted digital costume and mask and it looked terrible onscreen.

I also blame the WB for the ****** 3D conversion. Shouldn't have been converted into 3D. Results are clear. People are paying more tickets for 2D version instead of 3D. This validates my claim.

I blame the marketing people for not being able to stick with a direction for how to market the film.

Hey, I'm with you(mostly) I just laugh in my cup every time I run into one of your sermons on the matter lol.

A chuck yaeger type of character on paper being cast as Ryan Reynolds just screams Executive decision. This was clearly inspired by Iron Man.

However they could have made an exceptional film inspite of this and Reynolds could have done something along the lines of what Will Smith did in ID4.

maybe Emmerich was the man for this film after all.

I think it's best for WB to go with Flash and Wondie first.

This film is just as good or better that "Thor" (and that film has eclipsed $600 million). Because of the marketing, the pending reviews (from social media), plus the fact that 3D ticket priced are twice that of 2D, GL certainly has a shot at achieving that.

Where is that website of Dnno's that said that due to a near perfect script on only 1 plot hole this moive is going to be the biggest success of the summer?

The audience clearly had a problem in believing in Reynolds since they didn't like him in this movie enough to see it more.

I'm just saying, Reynolds needed to not be an immature *****e bag in this movie. And he was. Now the editing of that moment is not his fault. But someone should've thought, let's change this so Hal doesn't look like a prick. I mean he got those guys fired and they didn't really hurt him. They roughed him up, stopped, and walked away. And Hal then sort of acts out of vengeance and in that moment I didn't like Hal. It was wrong.

Now I can believe Guy Gardner doing that because Guy is a dick. But Hal isn't Guy and Reynolds was supposed to be playing Hal.

How did the fist go over on screen, I remember it was one of the worst parts of that first trailer, and was never seen again.

Reynolds wasn't the immature *****e bag. The script had Hal Jordan as an immature *****e bag. It's not as though Reynolds ad libbed the whole thing.

And this movie falling has nothing to do with Reynolds. Do a # search of Green Lantern on Twitter, most people are saying Reynolds was great but the movie was disappointing.

ID4 are you ****ing kidding me? Also let's also be clear Will Smith wasn't the only lead in ID4. And ID4 while it was a huge hit and dumb fun was a dumb ****ing movie and it never got any sequels.

The movie needed basically the live action version of Optimus Prime as Hal Jordan. OK maybe not that far but close. I'm just saying, look at the way Transfans worship Optimus Prime. Some comic fans have the same view of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. The movie didn't respect that.

So does Jordan like the ladies? Yes. Does he have a sense of humor? Yes. It is simply in a more dry, ironic, and ADULT way. Reynolds was still in college frat boy amusement mode just like Van Wilder and Blade 3. That is the wrong energy for Hal Jordan. It would technically be right for Guy Gardner, but that's not who Hal played.

Reynolds honestly looks like a guy I want to get punched in the face. So that's why he'd have been great for Gardner. He's a cocky idiot and you punch him in the face for it and then you sort of laugh at him and like him for it.

Interesting note: Reynolds never read the script before he signed on, just the treatment. Once he had his name on the dotted line Green was asked to re-vamp the dialogue with Reynolds in mind

I still think The Flash would of been a safer bet for WB than Green Lantern if they were going to rest their hopes on future DC superhero movies on one characters shoulders.

It may have been cheaper and more accessible

It was a military contract, he exposed a clear flaw, as much as it sucks what he did they had a problem and that was a product that shouldnt have been sold in that state. Was he just supposed to get shot down without putting any effort in, thats false advertising.

Very disappointing news. Like others I fear this could kill the chances for other characters to have a movie (Flash being my overwhelming "want" here).

Best case? GL somehow manages to make just enough for a sequel and it serves as a wake-up call to WB and they actually start focusing on making an intelligent script for future movies. Though that all seems like a long shot after the long line of bad/mediocre non-Batman movies we've seen from them. There is something wrong at WB in the positions that make decisions. You know it's bad when Fox is making you look stupid in comparison.

Reynolds is pretty much the only thing that is consistantly praised about this movie VileOne. Although most of that praise is "it wasn't his fault" lol.

But it wasn't his fault. Reynolds didn't ruin this movie. Reynolds did his best with an appaling script. You could have put James Dean in this movie and it would have still been terrible.
Agreed. To blame it on Reynolds is to ignore his work in Buried. He can do anything the script tells him to do. WB has made a lot of missteps with their SH movies....Reynolds isn't the problem.

Are you going to sit here and call Spiderman 2 orginial . It was Superman 2 , and ITony Stark is a drunk Bruce Wayne
The only thing I see that is similar between them is they are both rich. They are vastly different other than that. Robin and Spider-Man are both teenagers...but that's all they have in common too.

Good news to me. I'm so tired of 3D.

I love that woman though
Morena Baccarin that is.
I'm right there with you on that one. Hope Whedon puts her in a SH movie at some point.

There may be some hope. I read that studios typically only get about 20% of their profit from the theater run.
In 2007, according to the secret MPAA studio numbers, only about 20 percent of the the studios' revenue came from movie theaters, and over half of that came from foreign theaters. In 2007, worldwide TV, Pay TV, DVDs, and other licensing provided 80% of these revenues. Movies now serve as launching platforms for creating properties that make their real profit in the so-called “back end” , much like the runways at haute couture fashion shows. Because of the crucial importance of these post-theatrical rights, Hollywood's profit margins depend upon optimally leveraging these properties across all the platforms they can find, such as Pay Per View, DVDs, Video-On-Demand, and TV movies. There is (no longer) a movie industry, there is an entertainment industry.

Also it's not DIGITAL STUNTS, it was the digital suits that looked like ****. His costume looked painted on his body, the suit and mask looked awkward. It constantly looked like digital trickery. It should've been a practical suit.
You may be right about that. If a Spider-Man suit can work...anything can work. WB may have been scared off because of the negative reaction from the Superman suit in SR. Their inability to hire people who can make a suit work may have worried them. We'll probably never see the real Batman costume either.

Yea, when Hal unleashed his patented big green fist on those guys in the parking lot I was sorta like "you're a prick, you cost those guys their jobs, and you punch them through brick walls?".

He didn't even know what the ring was capable of when he did that. Completely accidental, and if I remember correctly, Hal looked pretty horrified when he realised what he had done.

Well that's not true either. Military testing is based on the scientific method with variables and parameters. If one of the variables goes outside the testing parameters then the test is considered obsolete and has to be mimicked. Hal breaking the designated flight ceiling just to "win" would have gotten his more than a reprimand and kicked off the next test phase.

But the point of the exercise was to show off the uses of the jets not EXPOSE FLAWS. It was a mock dog fight and Hal broke the rules of engagement and abandoned his comrade and ally in order to beat the jets. And he also lost his jet because he has daddy issues.

Morningstar, that is why Reynolds would've been good as Gardner. His *****e bag-ness would've been useful. You see I look at Reynolds and if he has a GL ring I seem him being irresponsible going to an alien pleasure planet and waking up with two alien hoes as Guy Gardner while Hal just shakes his head and shrugs and says, "Well that's Guy."

Well I totally agree with you. When Reynolds was first cast I was like "Wait, for Hal Jordan? The guy is Guy Gardner all over".

But again, I don't blame Reynolds for taking the role or for this movies failures.
