The Green Lantern movie thread

I was thinking that the movie could start off first showing Hal and his father martin and him explaining about how there's nothing to fear but fear itself and that if you're not afraid you can do anything. Followed by His plane crash with Hal witnessing it at the Ferris Airfield.

Fast Forward a few Years and Hal is an adult, Abin Crashes, Hal gets the ring. Before he can be teleported off to Oa the ring POSTPONES his training because primary protocal #1 (Protect Life) comes first. The ring takes Hal to some sort of Disaster/Crisis and he uses his GL powers for the first time. Similar to Peter catching uncle ben's killer in Spidey 1.

Then he is suddenly snatched up and taken to Oa where the first GL he meets is GL from a neighboring sector, Tomar-Re who expresses sympathy for the Death of his friend Abin Sur. Followed by funny moments of Hal's first ever interaction with Aliens like Ch'p and other GL's

Next, Enter Kilowog making his Rookie speech where he explains in full detail. Exactly what the GLC is about. Hal is then summoned by the Guardians to be told the history of the GLC and that Abin's ring choose wisely in selecting him. His ring Low from all this Space Action...he then follows Kilowog to the Central Battery where he charges his ring for the first time ever side by side with hundreds of his fellow Lanterns! (HOW KICK ASS WOULD THAT BE ONSCREEN?)

Fast forward to his return to Earth where Carol Ferris is mad at him for leaving without saying a word for a whole year! (GL Training took a while and the Guardians wouldn't let him leave) She finally agrees to hire him back flying their new prototype...then something goes wrong...Sinestro arrives and arrogantly blows it up to get Hal's attention.

The Guardians feel that Hotshot Jordan can learn a thing or two about being a Lantern from their #1 Sinestro. Words are Exchanged, but they build a mutual Mentor/Student relationship (Bruce & Ducard, anyone?) Sinestro takes Hal to his planet to show him how great his world is and thats where hal sees that Sinestro's planet is the most orderly cause he is a vile dictator...Kick ass ring battle on Korugar leads to Sinestros downfall and expulsion from the Corps and banishment to QWARD!

Fast Forward a few years and Hal is the new #1 GL. He's even taking to giving other new GL's liek John Stewart and Guy Gardner pointers...there's some more stuff in there like Sinestro kidnapping Katma tui, Hal accompanying John to investigate her disappearance...Sinestro reprogramming Manhunters to in act his revenge on the GLC. Big GLC vs the Manhunters finale, but I dont feel like outlining my whole script.

Soooooooo....

Long story short...I'm writing a GL movie and thats basically the setup. Its absolutely no problem for me to incorporate the Earth GL's in a backup capacity because that's what the GLC is about. Tons of movies have huge casts and handle them with style.

Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Matrix, X-Men. To say that you can't FIT John and Guy into the film is ridiculous. They don't even need a setup. its all in the mythos.

"You were chosen by the guardians. End of Setup."

That said... you can't touch on 60 years of comics with a franchise if you insist on focusing on the eleven Stewartless years for a whole movie.

Yet you can make several Batman movies that focuse on the ONE Robinless year?

I really like that, Darksuperman. :) The first movie can focus on Sinestro as the Villain and Hal's early experiences and the second movie 2 or 3 more GLs from earth are involved and Hal can even show them a few pointers.

Thank You Very Much For Liking My Idea! :yay:

I mean if you look at what Green Lantern is really about, its about over coming fear and universal team work. Sure, there would be loads of Solo Heroic Hal moments, but sprinkled throughout would be those endearing and cool "You Mess with Spidey, You mess with New York" sort of scenes.

I'm going to work really hard on my GL script and maybe if the movie is not made by then I can sell it to DC, but hey...even if it is I can always use it for a Television Pilot or something!

Yeah, I want to see a full out war between the Sinestro and Green Lantern Corps by the third movie. That'd be one hell of a way to end it. Parallax I know is not happening if Hal is the focus so I think Sinestro and the Sinestro Corps will make pretty hefty threats for all three movies.

...Maybe there can be another one of those movie twists/changes and have Alan Scott be the legendary Green Lantern that became Parallax and returned to destroy the GLC.

If any GL movie does not have Ch'p or G'Nort, it is dead to me then.

I like it. Have the main character be Hal but with John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Alan Scott as supporting characters. Change Scott around a bit so that he's a friend of Jordan in his personal life and it is later revealed that he was once a Lantern himself.

Maybe Stewart can be in training with Katma Tui on some other world or something, playing sidekick.

So Kilowog, Katma Tui, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Alan Scott, and Carrol Ferris should make up the supporting cast in my opinion.

One thing's for sure: Will Arnett (That's right. Gob himself) HAS to be Guy Gardner! :D

Oh and Isaiah Washington for John Stewart.

hmm, truth to be told Washington would make a good John Stewart.

That's funny cause Ch'p and G'nort are some of the first GL's Hal meets for the first time in front of the Central Battery in my script.

Now THAT'S a good point! And while there are several incongruities in the comparison, it's such a well chosen example, that I won't bother.

That said, I just wanna see John Stewart, I don't really care who else is in the movie...

The reason there are so many Robinless movies and such is that he really doesn't make sence.

He does in the comics now, and they have done amazing stuff with him as a character,
but he was first introduced to bring in young kids into reading Batman.

In reality Batman would never, ever, bring anyone in as a partner in his War on Crime, let alone a little kid.
And the movies are usually based more in reality, thats why costumes get changed from yellow spandex to leather jumpsuits. Because some things in comics wouldn't make sence in movies.

Anyway,
I would love to see Jon Stewart in a GL movie, but I also want (demand) that Hal Jordan get included somehow too. I don't want the movie of Green Lantern (which took off with the space cop idea) to forget Hal like the JLU cartoon did.

I'd love to see Hal in the first film, with Stewart as a background character. (like Hal's friend or something),
then in the second film Stewart gets a bigger part, being a hero without a ring or anything (all the while Hal is the main story). Then at the end of the 2nd film, or maybe the start of the first, Hal Jordan gives Jon Stewart his ring and makes him the new Green Lantern.

One thing that I demand they include about Jon Stewart though, they have to make him an architect. Show him drawing blue prints and showing his artistic skills, and once he gets his ring his constructs can reflect that too.

If we are going for a Hal Jordan movie, then I have four words for you.

Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn!!!

Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn!!!
Basically Hal's "Green Lantern Year One".

Can you imagine that^^as a Green Lantern film poster?

Probably wouldn't happen, but it would look cool.

fillion would be great as hal. id want the first to be only about hal and then in 2, introduce the corps, 3 kyle as main character

It depends on the age they are looking for if they want a young Hal Jordan then I say Scott Porter from the T.V show "Friday Night Lights", who's 28. But if they go for a slightly older Hal then I would have to say Nathan Fillion who's 36.

Older Hal works better because he's an experienced air force pilot.

Yes, please, for the love of God, give us an older Hal, not some 20 year old no one just because he's young, cheap and supposedly "pure and free of baggage", I'm tired of that.

I dunno, wasn't the whole point that young Hal definitely was not pure and free of baggage and that he was a bit of an ass?

Wasn't this depicted in Emerald Dawn, and much of the story was about a jerk becoming a good guy? Well just saying if they go with the Emerald Dawn angle, Hal really isn't a pure and innocent type. It's more like, what would happen if Flash Thompson got the powers instead of Peter Parker.

I'm sorry, I meant "pure and has no baggage" in the sense that the actor playing him has very few - if any - notable film or TV roles on his resume, which, in theory, means the audience will have an easier time believing he is the character, as opposed to hiring someone who is well known. I did not mean to say that Hal started off a pure noble individual, I was referring to the actor playing him and where that actor stands in his career.

I'm surprised no one's said Johnny Depp for Sinestro yet. His name usually pops up a lot in threads like this.
