Halloween 5 really is just an abomination. So terrible. The only scene I can extrapolate as a decent one is Michael chasing Jamie in the "Myers" house (laundry chute, Dr. Loomis using her as bait, etc.)

Other than that, I'm amazed this made it onto film.

Halloween 5 is right up there with Resurrection as the most blatant cash grab in the franchise.

I would still take Halloween 5 over 6. Not that it's saying much...

See while H5 isn't a strong film, it does have some of the greatest Loomis scenes/dialogue in the whole franchise and for me that does go a long way.

Also at least there was some menace in H5, the only thing I personally liked about Resurrection was that the Myers house looked really good...outside of that beyond forgettable...

As for H6...I don't even acknowledge the theatrical cut...whenever I introduce someone to the series, I always tell them to watch the Producers Cut....the far superior version and my personal 3rd choice in the series (behind parts 1 and 2)...here is why I like PC6 better than its theatrical cut:

*More Loomis...lots more Loomis including him doing the narration at the beginning versus Tommy, an explanation that he had a stroke at the end of 5, that he had skin grafts to explain away his scars

*the flashback to 5 showing Jamie kidnapped by the Man in Black

*More old school Halloween musical themes throughout

*a subtle though cool stalking scene with Michael and Kara

*Jamie not getting her farm machinery death...more creepy imagery with the Thorn cult and her

*More Dr. Wynn

*The entire final act with the Thorn cult/ceremony and Wynns transference of duties to Loomis

*Better details over the Thorn curse

A far superior film to its theatrical part at least for me...not crazy about the Michael/Jamie incest part but that aside, a very strong film for me....

H5 isn't bad, nor is its mask. It was a mess, but what you get in its final product, is a movie that H4 was missing: subtle execution, creepy atmosphere, all relating to the first film, oppose to remaking the first film which H4 went for.

And yes, I prefer the producers cut to H6, which regardless of which version, I still wanted to see a conclusion with 7. I mentioned this, but without any details, so let me explain: I would've wanted an H7 that concluded the Thorn series, brought back Jamie Lee as Laurie, and ended the franchise (for the time being) right there. I could see it working as with DP gone by that time, Loomis could've been still in the movie, hidden in darkness, and being a shadow of his former self as he is now in control of Michael. Tommy & Kara are trying to stay away from Michael, but they need information from Loomis regarding him, so they have to come back to his home. Its there we get the big reveal: Laurie was in a car accident, but she wasn't dead, that was fake; she's actually in a coma, and secretly away thanks to Loomis, and this works with the canon starting in H4. If you remember, Loomis knew Michael was going to Haddonfield, but until he went to the Sheriff's office, he didn't know about Jamie. For what he knew, Loomis thought Michael was gonna terrorize the town (better idea than continue the family angle IMO), or still looking for Laurie. Now that they knew, they go see her and see how she is; problem is, Michael knows too, thanks to Loomis. Both parties go there, and just as the tension goes into high gear, Laurie wakes up, finding herself in the present, but still stalk by her nightmare: Michael. After escaping, and trying to get herself back together, and Laurie dealing with her daughter's death in H6, Tommy figures out the best way to destroy Michael is from his family member, aka Laurie. After some convincing, Laurie, Tommy and Kara go back to Haddonfield, and face Michael and Loomis, destroying them both. Obviously, from H20, Laurie beheads Michael, ending him once and for all. The day is saved, and reign of Michael Myers is over. But in the final scene, Laurie, still dealing with the events, is still keeping Michael's mask. Why? Maybe because Michael is dead, but evil never dies, it just spreads...

That's my H7.

I didn't get any subtle execution or creepy atmosphere in H5. The movie picks up with some old man with a green parrot living in a shack in the woods, who for reasons beyond my comprehension decides to keep injured comatose Michael there for a whole year and not take him to hospital or alert the authorities.

That pretty much sets up the inane stupidity and lack of subtle execution and atmosphere the movie delivers with annoying Tina and her Fonzie bf, clown cops, stuttering Billy, psychic link between Michael and Jamie, crazy ass Loomis, mansion Myers house etc.

The sad part is the Akkad's signed off on that mess. I know they were capitalizing on the somewhat success H4 had but c'mon.

I'll add to your already awful list:

- Michael in a cell fidgeting with chains
- The inexplicable inclusion of the Man in Black: who is he? Is he real or some sort of demon (seeing as he manifested through jail bars)? Who cares? WTF?
- Michael crying (albeit from perfectly normal eyes...no sign of bullet holes anywhere)
- Adding to the above, do you remember the VHS plot description on the back of the case? "Michael Myers' face finally revealed!(or something to that effect) Did anyone see the original Halloween??

Its one of the worst ones.

For anyone who thinks 5 is an abomination like me, check out this MST3K style commentary podcast of the film of 3 guys on youtube whom i mentioned mocking the film and seeing what's wrong with it, i even loathed the film since i was 8 seeing it in theaters and seeing Michael cry like a wuss was off putting.

Not to mention Loomis turning into a crazed psychopath who terrorizes little girls (there's an old interview with Donald Pleasance where even he admits that he didn't like Loomis characterization in Part 5), insufferable Tina and her annoying friends, retconning Jamie killing her foster mother (yeah she was clearly DEAD at the end of IV), the stupid "psychic link," the Man in Black Deus Ex Machina (they hadn't even decided who he was going to be when they made that film), Rachel's lame death, the two Keystone Cops rejects, etc.

Yeah it was just a mess all-around. And worst of all, it undid that really epic ending to Part 4 and all of the potentially cool possibilities that could have come from it.

Pretty much nailed it for me as to why it’s my least favorite of the original franchise.

Guys, I would LOVE to get the Halloween 15 disc set at a reasonable price. But man, am I not getting that anywhere! :(

Yeah I know the feeling mate. Been wanting it for ages but where I live (Australia), they don't even sell it or any of the movies apart from 4,5 and 6 and they are only on DVD lol. It's just so expensive to get from overseas. We get some of the worst deals here in this country when it comes to releases.

Its like 100-200, even up to 500 dollars on ebay. I can't wait finding an affordable one.

Let me stop you right there. :o

Wanna hear something else?

I really like Tina from H5, and her actress Wendy Kaplan. ?

That always happens though. Unless you grab it when it first comes out, the price is really only going to go up. Luckily I got mine when it was first released. Same goes for that tin case Friday the 13th collection. I grabbed it when it first came out. Now the price for it is through the roof.

Actually, I like Tina from H5 too...

...except for that obnoxious "bumpabum!" scene early on.

I liked that she was odd, and would say certain sarcastic things under stress. Definitely unconventional, and even relatable (to me).

...but that "bumpabum" scene...possibly worse than nails on chalkboards.

Loomis should have slapped her when she left a distraught Jamie to go attend that party. :o What a selfish b****.

Yeah, the most gratifying sound from her was hearing that scream fade away after she was stabbed. AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa.......

And they killed off Rachel, who was actually likeable, and replaced her with, THAT!! Such a waste.

Yeah that was actually really crappy of her. How she could go off to enjoy a party and leave Jamie in that distraught state shows what sort she was. You're supposed to make your protagonists likable. You shouldn't be rooting for them to die. But when they are treating kids like that, and are generally annoying, well you just want them to die A.S.A.P.

I remember watching Carpenter's Halloween, and seeing how cool Laurie was with Tommy. She read stories to him, made him popcorn, let him watch horror movies, carved him a Jack O'Lantern, and reassured him about his fears of the boogeyman promising him that he wasn't real, and even if he was she was looking after him that night and wouldn't let anything happen to him. Laurie was awesome. I wanted her to survive.

Yeah, the most gratifying sound from her was hearing that scream fade away after she was stabbed. AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa.......

:funny:

Do you hate the character or the actress?

Because I do like both, but even if you didn't like either, you weren't want anything bad happen to her, as she almost was filming H5.

I never saw the actress in anything other than H5. But it was more the character and how she was portrayed. The lame jokes, the hyperactive dancing, selfish behavior etc.

I just looked Wendy Kaplan up on Wikipedia. She's appeared in 3 movies in total, including H5. A few guest appearances in a handful of mostly unknown T.V. shows. So not surprised I've never seen her in anything else.
